Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Unto You Young Men I have been desirous of putting something together that may help to settle the young men of the present day in the faith of Christ and in the Christian li e. I have often been asked to address them at school and college on these and kindred subjects, and in writing these pages I have hoped to put true and useful thoughts in a permanent form. The age is one of inquiry and unsettlement: but I believe the Christian Church was never more strong for good than at present; and I am persuaded that the Christian faith is the most reasonable account of human life. That faith I earnestly wish that all young men should have the happiness of enjoying. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Christian Doctrine of Man It is hardly necessary to remind the reader that almost every section and subsection of this book touches con troversial points, and that no two writers will agree on every detail of such a subject as this. I have spared no pains to secure accuracy of fact, but am very conscious, in other respects, of the limitations of this volume; some of these are due to the necessary limits of space, though far more to the demands the subject makes on both theological learning and Christian experience. Book Plain Theology for Plain People

Download or read book Plain Theology for Plain People written by Charles Octavius Boothe and published by Lexham Press. This book was released on 2017-09-20 with total page 178 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Everyday Christians need practical and accessible theology. In this handbook first published in 1890, Charles Octavius Boothe simply and beautifully lays out the basics of theology for common people. "Before the charge 'know thyself,'" Boothe wrote, "ought to come the far greater charge, 'know thy God.'" He brought the heights of academic theology down to everyday language, and he helps us do the same today. Plain Theology for Plain People shows that evangelicalism needs the wisdom and experience of African American Christians. Walter R. Strickland II reintroduces this forgotten masterpiece for today. Lexham Classics are beautifully typeset new editions of classic works. Each book has been carefully transcribed from the original texts, ensuring an accurate representation of the writing as the author intended it to be read.

Book Men of the Bible Classic Reprint

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Men of the Bible A great many people are afraid of the will of God, and yet I believe that one of the sweetest lessons that we can learn in the school of Christ is the surrender of our wills to God, letting Him plan for us and rule our lives. If I know my own mind, if an angel should come from the throne of God and tell me that I could have my will done the rest of my days on earth and that everything I wished should be carried out, or that I might refer it back to God, and let God's will be done in me and through me, I think in an instant I would say. Book A Man s Faith Classic Reprint

Download or read book A Man s Faith Classic Reprint written by Wilfred Thomason Grenfell and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-09-16 with total page 50 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from A Man's Faith Nay, more, I own to considering it a desir able thing, and I presume I must thereby be con tent to write myself down a prejudiced witness henceforth. Yet I do not consider this a stulti fying statement. I want to believe in Jesus Christ because I want to attain the ends I know such a faith insures. I consider faith, as Peter did, a precious thing. I believe it can make me master of myself and of the world, as John did. I do not expect it to be based on the wis dom of to-day altogether. I believe with Paul that it is well based, not on the wisdom of men, but on the power of God, which I see it exemplify. Where would it have been if based on the wisdom of Paul's day? As he most wisely said, Our knowledge is incomplete. It will be cast aside. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Book Introducing Men to Christ

Download or read book Introducing Men to Christ written by W. D. Weatherford and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-11-17 with total page 178 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Introducing Men to Christ: Fundamental Studies There is a very great need to-day that men shall be brought to feel that religion is not a thing apart, that it is knit up with the ordinary processes of Our lives. We need to see that being religious is not having some vague, mysti cal experience, but living a life of real friendship. Perhaps as never before men are coming to realize that Christian life is not abnormal, but the most completely normal. In this life we use the same powers of personality which we use in our ordinary friendships, the sole difference being that in this God friendship we are associated with a perfect and full personality; while in all other friendships we are associated with incomplete and partial persons like our selves. This makes a difference in the intensity and mean ing of our friendship, but no difference as to kind. Further, there is a need to quiet the minds of some who seem to think psychology is putting God out of the work ings of the human soul. A few year ago, when evolution was in the enthusiastic flush of a new discovery, many of its advocates and still more of the Christian people thought it was destined to explain away God's working in the universe of physical nature. But we have long Since ceased to feel that evolution is Opposed to religion. It claims to be only a theory of the method of creation; and if it can and does reveal to us the method by which God works, we may well rejoice in this new light, which is essentially religious. Book Fitness of Christianity to Man Classic Reprint

Download or read book Fitness of Christianity to Man Classic Reprint written by F. D. Huntington and published by . This book was released on 2015-07-01 with total page 140 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Fitness of Christianity to Man It was required that the matter contained in this small volume should be delivered in a church to an audience not differing much from the congregations that generally gather in cities for worship, except as it might happen to include a larger proportion of educated minds. It was also demanded by the terms of the lectureship that the lectures, having been so delivered, should be forthwith issued in print as a treatise. To almost any student this twofold necessity must be somewhat embarrassing, as involving a certain literary incompatibility. It will appear that I chose to keep before me in writing the assembly of hearers, and have not thought it worth while to take pains to strike out some forms of expression and some illustrative passages belonging to a public address. I had contemplated the use of a considerable array of references to authorities, and to agreeing or differing authors. But on the whole I see no worthy occasion for it, and therefore present only a few marginal acknowledgments to writers to whom I am conscious of being indebted. Most certainly, he now mused to himself, it was the right life, and those Old teachings cling to me yet; indeed, if we destroy a belief in the Bible or its teachings we destroy the dynamics Of prog ress and the genius of home, our very civilization itself. Book Salvation From Sin the End of Christian Faith Classic Reprint

Download or read book Salvation From Sin the End of Christian Faith Classic Reprint written by John Humphrey Noyes and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-03-23 with total page 54 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Salvation From Sin, the End of Christian Faith In denying that the Old Testament saints were born of God, we must not be understood as denying that they had any religion. It appears by the passage above quoted, that there are two dis tinct stages in religious experience, in the first of which men may properly be called servants of God, while yet they are not sons. It is important that this distinction should be clearly seen, and constantly kept in view. We admit, and teach, that the Old Testament saints were servants of God in the ages before Christ, and that they became sons at his coming. But what is the difference between servants and sons? Did not the Old Testament saints love God Yes and so many servants love and honor their masters, while yet there is no vital union, no blood-relationship between them. So there was no vital union between God and man, till Christ came in the flesh. Abraham was called the friend of God, and he doubtless loved God as a man loves his friend but it is not said in scripture, and it is not true, that Christ was in him that he dwelt in God, and God in him. This spiritual indwelling was hid from ages and from generations, and was manifested only after the mission of Christ. Col. 1 26, 27. It is this that brings men into blood-relationship to God, so that they are entitled to the name of sons of God. Book The Christian Faith and the New Day Classic Reprint

Download or read book The Christian Faith and the New Day Classic Reprint written by Cleland Boyd McAfee and published by . This book was released on 2016-06-15 with total page 88 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Christian Faith and the New Day This is not a reconstruction of theology but a plea for that work and some suggestion of a few typical points where it is needed and opportune. A teacher of theology shrinks a bit when it is said that the day for theology is over; he is apt to think in stead that the day has just come for vital religion which will mean a vital theology. But such a teacher knows well that theology can be devitalized by mistaking its own expressions for the truth it is trying to express. Visitors to theological seminaries often tell young men they are not to preach their theology, whereas in any sound way of speaking it is the only thing they are to preach. Yet the most deadly thing that could be preached is a theology that does not carry the message of religion for its own day. The appeal herein is not to technical theologians but to working ministers and thoughtful laymen who, after all, build and use the theology that is living and who sometimes fear to see it change. The great days just passed have given many of us a renewed assurance that Christianity is more vital and forceful than it has been for many a long day. Its vitality may well claim the right to phrase itself anew - which means to reconstruct theology at any point where it may need reconstructing. This book was released on 2018-01-31 with total page 260 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Christian Faith Under Modern Searchlights There is, however, I am confident, a large class of men in and out of the Church who would welcome a clear statement of the case of Christianity in the light of current debate and to men Of this class I have great pleasure in com mending the present volume. The merit of these lectures consists largely in the fact that the author takes a comprehensive survey Of the latest phases of anti-christian thought, that he has a firm hold upon the cen tral and vital questions involved in the great debate, and that he does not allow himself to be hampered by dealing needlessly with side issues. He is keen and penetrating in his criticism of those who belittle the evidence in support of re vealed religion, and generous, sometimes to a fault, in his appreciation of writers with whose dominant ideas he has but scant sympathy. Of his learning and logical acumen there is no doubt and his fairness in controversy is above reproach. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
