Book The Bible Doctrine of Grace

Download or read book The Bible Doctrine of Grace written by C. Ryder Smith and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2009-11-01 with total page 257 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this volume Dr. Ryder Smith continues his series of studies in great Bible doctrines. Its main subject is Grace, and he examines afresh the meaning and use of such terms as chesed in the Old Testament and charis in the New, not forgetting the Septuagint. But there are chapters also on doctrines closely related to Grace, under such titles as "Trial, Temptation and Discipline," "Election," and "The Fellowship of God with Man in Christ." In his chapters on "Righteousness in Sinners" and "Sin in Believers" he maintains that the full Christian doctrine is nowhere drawn out in the New Testament, but that it may be deduced from scattered references. In his discussion of "Sin in Believers" he claims that Paul taught what some may consider a heresy, namely, that in what may be called "conversion baptism" a believer was wholly cleansed from sin. In many ways this volume is complementary to Dr. Smith's last volume, The Bible Doctrine of Sin, and like all his work it is the fruit of sound knowledge, deep scholarship, and penetrating insight.

Book The Great Doctrines of the Bible

Download or read book The Great Doctrines of the Bible written by William Evans and published by e-artnow. This book was released on 2020-04-09 with total page 275 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The doctrines treated in this book are dealt with from the standpoint of Biblical rather than Dogmatic theology. This is evident from the plan which is followed in the work, namely, to gather together all the Scripture passages dealing with the subject under consideration, and from them choose a required number that may be called representative; then seek to understand the meaning of these references by the study of the text itself as well as its context and parallel passages; and finally, from the selected proof-texts, formulate the doctrinal teaching, and place such results under appropriate headings. The doctrines of God, Jesus Christ, and the Holy Spirit are more fully dealt with than the doctrines which follow. This is especially true of the doctrine of God. The reason for this is to set forth the method pursued in these studies, and to give a pattern for the study of the doctrines to follow. (William Evans, The Great Doctrines of the Bible)
