Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The great commission of Jesus (Matthew 28:16-20) calls Christians to make disciples of all nations, unfortunately the churches' Christian education programs haphazardly and unsystematically attempt to grow up believers in the Lord. Christian CoreStrength has been written to provide a plan of learning that progresses in an orderly fashion, and covers every major doctrine and practice of Christianity. The church also needs to be making disciples who can then turn around and make other disciples. The reality is that the average Christian does not know where to start with discipleship. The purpose of Christian CoreStrength is to put a tool into your hands so that you have the means to take someone under your care and teach them the faith. Christian CoreStrength follows a one year plan, 52 lessons, to teach the Christian faith in such a manner that key doctrines are taught and important Bible passages are studied to lay a solid foundation of faith. Christian CoreStrength is divided into five major sections: Core Beliefs--the foundation of essential truths; Such a Great Salvation--the doctrines of salvation from election to glorification; A Closer Walk with God--the practical living aspects of the Christian faith; Church Life--the doctrine and practice of the church; Thinking Deeper--an examination of deeper theological and world view issues. Each lesson is two pages long and can be used in a variety of contexts: Self-Study, One-on-One, Small Group, Sunday School, and Leadership Training.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There has been an explosion of publishing in the faith-work movement in the last twenty years. Work is increasingly seen as the new frontier for Christian mission. However, the church and theological colleges have failed to keep up with the interest among, and needs of, workplace Christians. This book is the urgent corrective that is needed, moving past Theology of Work 101 to much deeper encounters with God's word as it relates to daily work. These twelve academic papers look at work through three different lenses: the workplace, the church, and theological education. It is prefaced by Mark Greene from the London Institute for Contemporary Christianity, reflecting on what work, church, and theological education would look like if there was no sacred-secular divide. In the concluding remarks, the editors imagine a future where each domain is transformed by the gospel, working dynamically together for the life of the world. While academic in terms of depth of thinking, quality of research, and referencing of crucial sources for further exploration, this book is never dry. Rather, it's life-giving and provocative for every vocation, asking fundamental questions of the reader: What is the work that God is calling you to do? How can the gospel transform your work? And how well-positioned are churches and colleges to be at the forefront of transforming vocation? With contributions from: Mark Greene James Pietsch Peter White Peter Docherty Gordon Preece Keith Mitchell David Fagg Ian Hussey Colin Noble Andrew Matthews Sarah Bacaller Samuel Curkpatrick Maggie Kappelhoff

Carson believes we can learn valuable lessons from Paul's letter about what it really means to be a mature Christian in the face of adversity. In A Model of Christian Maturity he takes the reader step by step through an exposition of 2 Corinthians 10-13 and then helps them apply these Scriptures to everyday life in the church. Book Ancient India Rise and Fall

Download or read book Ancient India Rise and Fall written by A.J. Carmichael and published by . This book was released on with total page 279 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In ancient Indian history, there were four significant eras as highlighted below, a quick introduction is important in order to digest the material in this book. Prehistoric era: From 500,000 BCE to 11,000 BCE, South Asian hunter-gatherers made stone tools and painted cave paintings at Bhimbetka during the Old and Middle Stone Ages. Merhgarh, in Baluchistan, was where South Asian farming began between 11,000 and 3000 years ago. From 2500 BCE to 1900 BCE, the great Indian cities of Mohenjo Daro and Harappa provide us with much archaeological evidence. Eras of India: Vedic and post-Vedic, No Aryan invasion took place, but a nomadic group of Indo-European speakers migrated from Iran and Afghanistan, calling themselves Arya, or the noble. Over the past four millennia, Indo-Aryan culture has developed uniquely within India, blending the values and heritages of the Arya and indigenous peoples. In the Indo-European language family, the Rig Veda is the oldest text. Among the three Vedas and other complementary Vedic literature, it is a crucial text in Vedic Hinduism. We have today's vast agricultural infrastructure in north India due to the expansion of the Indo-Aryans from Punjab to the Ganga basin. Mahajanapadas (great states) were formed from the Vedic polity, which Magadha dominated. Northwest India was invaded by both the Persians and the Greeks later in this period. Ajivakas, Buddhists, and Jains objected to the caste system, animal sacrifices, brahman dominance, and the Vedas in Vedic Hinduism. The Great Empires lasted from about 300 BCE to c. AD 500. From Chandragupta Maurya's Arthashastra, an excellent manual of political economy, we can understand the principles of the Mauryan Empire, founded from Magadha in 321 BCE. With the help of many rock and pillar inscriptions, Ashoka humanized the empire and propagated Buddha's principles. The smaller Shaka, Kushan, and Satavahana kingdoms followed the Mauryan Empire. A flourishing agricultural industry and trade, both domestic and international, contributed significantly to Indian prosperity during this period. China and Rome dominated trade between India and China. According to the Samanta philosophy of tolerant neighborliness, the Gupta Empire followed a model of decentralized power. The Hindu-Buddhist-Jain civilization reached its peak of elitism under the Guptas. Classical Indian culture refers to that. Throughout history, Buddhism has remained popular but has evolved into Mahayana Buddhism, which emphasizes the Bodhisattva. Buddhism, Sanskrit literature, and mathematics flourished in this era, as at Ajanta. The feudal era lasted from 500 AD to 1200 AD (and beyond). Among the most prominent post-Gupta regional and feudal kingdoms were those of King Harsha, the early Chalukyas, and the Pallavas. The kings maintained their power through large land grants, feudatory power, and patronage systems. During the eleventh and twelfth centuries, the aggressive and iconoclastic Turco-Afghans quickly invaded India due to the inter-Indian wars waged by the Gurjara-Pratihara, Pala, and Rashtrakuta kingdoms. The deep south remained highly dynamic and Hindu under the Pallavas and Cholas. The Vedic and Puranic forms of Hinduism gradually replaced Buddhism in India, while the holy and puranic forms of Hinduism stayed. Muslim power, embodied in the slave dynasty of Qutb-ud-Din Aybak, entrenched itself in north India from 1206 onward, paving the way for Indo-Islamic culture to flourish.

Book Religion Religious Organisations and Development

Download or read book Religion Religious Organisations and Development written by Carole Rakodi and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2016-04-04 with total page 297 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This collection adds to a burgeoning literature concerned with the roles played by religions in development. The authors do not assume that religion and religious organisations can be ‘used’ to achieve development objectives, or that religiously inspired development work is more holistic, transformative and authentic. Instead, they subject such assumptions to critical and (as far as possible) objective scrutiny, focusing on how adherents of several religious traditions and a variety of organisations affiliated with different religions perceive the idea of development and attempt to contribute to its objectives. Geographically, chapters in the volume encompass Africa, South Asia and the Asia-Pacific. Four of the papers have an international focus: providing a preliminary framework for analysing the role of religion in development, considering the roles played by faith-inspired organisations in two regions (the Asia Pacific and Sub-Saharan Africa) and analysing transnational Muslim NGOs. The individual case studies focus on nine countries (India, Kenya, Pakistan, Nigeria, Tanzania, Sudan, Malawi, Sri Lanka, South Africa), consider four religions (Islam, Hinduism, Christianity, Buddhism), and can be grouped under four themes: they consider religion, wellbeing and inequality; the roles of religious NGOs in development; whether and how religious organisations influence, respond to or resist social change; and whether religious service providers reach the poor. Finally, practice notes show how three religious development organisations try to put their principles into practice. This book was published as a special double issue of Development in Practice.

Download or read book Spiritual Grit written by Rick Lawrence and published by Group Publishing, Inc. . This book was released on 2018-04-24 with total page 298 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Why do some people thrive in the midst of great challenges and others don't? The answer is grit: the strength that fuels a scrappy response to threats, fear, confusion, and pain. But grit is more than a personal success tool. Without a passion for Jesus and practical ways to develop grit, it’s doomed to disappoint. Spiritual Grit seeks a better outcome by delving into why Jesus sometimes chooses to inject hardship into our lives rather than remove it. The book also includes: • Ways to access the strength needed to live a resilient life, through a dependent relationship with Jesus. • Biblical stories of those who grew a “grit backbone” through their interactions with Jesus. • An extensive menu of life habits that fertilize grit, plus a method for identifying habits that undermine it. • A way for readers to assess their own spiritual grit. Without Jesus, grit is little more than a gimmick. With Jesus, grit can infuse the world—and our lives—with hope.
