This book was released on 2020-12-07 with total page 216 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book Toward a Theology of Inculturation

Download or read book Toward a Theology of Inculturation written by Aylward Shorter and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2006-01-30 with total page 305 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: 'Inculturation' is a word come only recently into theological language, having its origin and impetus in a revolution in the perception of Christian mission--even of Christian identity. 'Toward a Theology of Inculturation' is the first book to bring together the many strands of current and historical Catholic thought on what might be called a theology of a multicultural church. Inculturation, Shorter argues, is the recognition that faith must in effect become culture to be fully received and lived. In the course of a wide-ranging discussion, the author explores the intimate relationship between inculturation and theology, focusing in particular on scripture, the history of Òmissions (especially in Africa), and contemporary Catholic thought. Shorter concludes with an exploration of the future of the church--a multicultural church. 'Toward a Theology of Inculturation' offers a substantive explication of what inculturation is, what it is not, how and when it occurs, and what its limits are or should be.

Book Christian Theology of Inculturation

Download or read book Christian Theology of Inculturation written by Mariasusai Dhavamony and published by Gregorian & Biblical Press. This book was released on 1997 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Inculturationis not just a means of evangelization but belongs to the heart of the church's evangelizing mission. it is not just a way of witnessing to Christ but of accomplishing and fulfilling his work of redemption. It is the continuation in time and space of the dialogue of salvation realized by God in Christ through the Holy Spirit. The incarnational economy of salvation means that the self-communication of God, definitively given to us in the incarnatio of his Son, is the paradigm of the saving presence and action of God in history. The inculturation of the Christian faith and life in the local Church is the historical actualization of Christ's salvation in the midst of every people. Evangelization will lose much of its power and efficacy, if it does not make use of people's language, their signs and symbols; i.e. if it does not reach and influence their way of life. After a brief introduction on the idea of culture, enculturation and acculturation in social anthropology, a theology of culture, symbol and language is treated in order to lead to the central subject-matter of the Christian theology of inculturation, which is articulated in themes such as revelation and culture, redemptive incarnation as an exemplary model of inculturation, Lay people and inculturation, missionary spirituality and inculturation. The final chapters deal with inculturation in the Indian Church, the meeting of the Gospel with Asian religions, cultures and aspirations for full humanity, and AsianChristian theology

Download or read book Trinit et inculturation written by Père Bède Ukwuije and published by Desclée De Brouwer. This book was released on 2018-09-18 with total page 533 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book Dialectics of Faith Culture Integration

Download or read book Dialectics of Faith Culture Integration written by Michael Muonwe and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2014-02-21 with total page 265 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book navigates the contours of cultural and theological hermeneutics in order to critique, affirm, as well as reconceptualise the vital underpinnings and subtleties of faith-culture intercourse and reciprocation. It questions claims to effective inculturation by theologians and church authorities, even as it acknowledges the inevitability of the tension between inculturation process and syncretic formations. It is an irresistible asset for teachers and students of theology, cultural and religious studies, for pastors and missionaries, and for all Christians in need of finding Christian beliefs and practices more meaningful to them in their daily lives. The hope is that it challenges the straitjacketed conceptual and pastoral frameworks that have often characterised the churchs evangelisation initiatives, and assists in making Christian faith a concrete and living possession of every age and culture. Michael Muonwe is a priest of the Catholic diocese of Awka, Nigeria. He holds Licentiate and Doctorate in Theology and Religious Studies from the Catholic University of Leuven, Belgium. He obtained Bachelors in Philosophy from Bigard Memorial Seminary Enugu, Nigeria. Michael also holds Diplomas in Mass Communication and Education. He has authored a number of articles and is an editor of a book. His major research interest is the often-convoluted relationship and interplay between religion and the contemporary culture. His research on the relationship between Christianity, feminism and culture will soon be published in two volumes. On the present book, Prof. Annemie Dillen of the Catholic University of Leuven affirms: This is a must-read book for local church leaders, theologians and everyone involved in pastoral work. It challenges the reader to give up a longing for security and finding answers in fixed rules or the so-called universal truths, and invites him or her to an in-depth study of cultural practices and beliefs. The overview of the discussions on inculturation and the reality or sometime maybe phantom of syncretism is very illuminating and thought-provoking. Thomas F. Magill asserts: A timely and well-balanced study of the theology of inculturation as understood in the Roman Catholic tradition, offering new and fresh insights, situated in the cusp between the Benedict XVI's emphasis on the relationship between faith and reason and the problem of relativism and Francis I's desire for a poor church for the poor. (T.F. Magill, L.S.S., Ph.D, parish priest of the Diocese of Motherwell, formerly a Lecturer in New Testament Studies at the University of Glasgow).

Book Dialogue and Syncretism

Download or read book Dialogue and Syncretism written by Jerald D. Gort and published by Rodopi. This book was released on 1989 with total page 246 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A new series emerging from discussions within an interdisciplinary research group at the Free University of Amsterdam, CURRENTS OF ENCOUNTER will deal with specific concerns of theology of religion, philosophy of religion, and comparative religion. In addition, the series will explore the relation between the Christian faith and contemporary culture as well as the encounter between Asian, African, Latin American, and Western contextualizations of Christianity. The aim of CURRENTS OF ENCOUNTER is to stimulate discussion and reflection on its theme from various presuppositional and methodological points of view. The underlying assumption of this aim is that the interdisciplinary avenue—neither an exclusively positivist nor a purely normative theological approach—provides the best means of access to a better understanding of the problems and potentialities inherent in the encounter between Christianity and the world of which it is a part -- Book cover.

Book Syncretism and Christian Tradition

Download or read book Syncretism and Christian Tradition written by Ross Kane and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2020-12-01 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Syncretism has been a part of Christianity from its very beginning, when early Christians expressed Jesus' Aramaic teachings in the Greek language. Defined as the phenomena of religious mixture, syncretism carries a range of connotations. In Christian theology, use of syncretism shifted from a compliment during the Reformation to an outright insult in the twentieth and twenty-first centuries. The term has a history of being used as a neutral descriptor, a pejorative marker, and even a celebration of indigenous agency. Its differing uses indicate the challenges of interpreting religious mixture, challenges which today relate primarily to race and revelation. Despite its pervasiveness across religious traditions, syncretism is poorly understood and often misconceived. Ross Kane argues that the history of syncretism's use accentuates wider interpretive problems, drawing attention to attempts by Christian theologians to protect the category of divine revelation from perceived human interference. Kane shows how the fields of religious studies and theology have approached syncretism with a racialized imagination still suffering the legacies of European colonialism. Syncretism and Christian Tradition examines how the concept of race figures into dominant religious traditions associated with imperialism, and reveals how syncretism can act a vital means of the Holy Spirit's continuing revelation of Jesus.

Book Dogme et inculturation en Afrique

Download or read book Dogme et inculturation en Afrique written by Léonard Santedi Kinkupu and published by KARTHALA Editions. This book was released on 2003-01-01 with total page 232 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. " C. Geffré, in Préface de l'ouvrage.

Download or read book L inculturation de la Bible la Tierce glise du Sud written by Blaise Bayili and published by Editions L'Harmattan. This book was released on 2015-09-01 with total page 200 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Download or read book Intercultural Theology written by Judith Gruber and published by Vandenhoeck & Ruprecht. This book was released on 2017-12-04 with total page 197 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Recent years have seen a paradigm shift in Christian self-understanding. In place of the eurocentric model of »Christendom«, a new understanding is emerging of Christianity as a world movement with considerable cultural variety. Concomitant with this changing self-perception, a new theological discipline begins to take shape which analyzes the inter- and transcultural character and performance of global Christianity: Intercultural Theology. Judith Gruber discusses this nascent theological approach in two parts. She first gives a critical analysis of its historical development – in the first part of the book, two theological sub-disciplines of particular relevance are analysed: (1) missiology and its reflection on the encounter of Western Christianity with other cultures in the context of colonialism; (2) contextual theologies which focus on the particularity and dignity of the diverse cultural contexts of theological practice, but fail to sufficiently integrate the universal dimension of Christianity into their theological reflections. Secondly, this study offers a constructive theological approach to intercultural theology. It does that by bringing systematic theology into conversation with cultural studies. This interdisciplinary approach adds significant complexity to existing reflections on Intercultural Theology: Re-reading the theological history of Christianity within the critical framework of cultural theories exposes a host of disparate and conflictive Christianities underneath its dominant master narrative, and, moreover, it no longer allows a recourse to essentialist concepts of Christian identity, with which previous approaches to Intercultural Theology have mitigated this unsettling cultural plurality of Christianity: After the »Cultural Turn«, which has made a metaphysical epistemology untenable, new ways for thinking the unity and universality of Christianity have to be paved. The book draws on Paul Ricoeur's and Michel Foucault's concept of the event and on Michel deCerteau's proposal of a »Weak Christianity« in order to develop such a post-metaphysical framework, which allows to conceive of the unity and universality of Christianity without concealing its cultural plurality and contingency.

Book Le concept d inculturation

Download or read book Le concept d inculturation written by Blaise Bayili and published by Editions L'Harmattan. This book was released on 2014-12-01 with total page 196 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.
