Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There is a pathway to Calvary that our Lord Jesus takes. It begins in eternity. He moves from His seat in glory to earth; not accepting His equality with the Father as anything to become known for but as a reason to serve the kingdom of God on earth. As a result of His love He humbles Himself and obeys God to the point of the death; even the death of the cross. He was humiliated. Shamed; although He did nothing wrong. He was treated cruelly although He loved those He came to redeem. How can He that loves be hated so much? It was all part of God's eternal plan to atone for man's sin in the first place. It may seem hard to reason with but God loves you and me. Pathway to the Cross is the inspirational telling of the story told in scripture concerning Jesus Christ. No doctrine, just inspiration. No heavy theology just an inspirational look at Jesus coming to earth as a child, growing as a man, touching loves as a healing physician, ministering to hurting hearts, and teaching those that would listen to Him. This book was written to encourage the believer and the sinner alike to look afresh at the cross of Calvary and see in that place of horror and death the joy of a God that loves all mankind. It is a view of the story told in scripture from a perspective that says, "You and I don't have to be perfect to know this great love." Whereas scripture is true God judges' sin, it is equally true that He forgives the sinner. His forgiveness was expressed in the act of Jesus dying on Calvary's cross and the power of His resurrection seals our redemption in place; all by grace.

This new collection of sermons reveals this theme in Lloyd-Jones' classic expository style, showing his gift for combining a warm, personal devotion to Jesus Christ with deep theological insight. His grasp of Scripture still causes the maturest believer to ponder, yet he brings a simplicity of thought to his preaching that even a child can understand and enjoy. The Cross explains how Christ's crucifixion works for our redemption, and why this even is the cornerstone of the Christian life.

Book Let the Gospels Preach the Gospel

Download or read book Let the Gospels Preach the Gospel written by Christopher J. H. Wright and published by Langham Preaching Resources. This book was released on 2017-01-14 with total page 111 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Preaching about the cross of Christ is one of the greatest privileges and responsibilities any preacher can have! The four Gospel writers who wrote about the cross of Christ and the events leading up to it, did so in their own unique way. Each interpreting the events through the lens of different Old Testament Scriptures and each emphasising different themes. Based on his own sermons preached over a number of years at All Souls Church in London, Christopher Wright explores the rich variety and lets the four Gospels preach the Gospel in their own way. This is an excellent resource for preachers, which is further enriched by the final chapter that provides a personal commentary on how Wright prepared each of the sermons.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It has never been easy to preach about the cross and resurrection of Jesus, but difficulties today are particularly challenging. Hearers ask tough questions of the church and the Christian faith, and they are not satisfied by formulaic answers. People are often suspicious of doctrine and are attracted to a broad but vague or pluralistic spirituality rather than the classical claims of Christianity. In this climate, preachers often see preaching on the central events of the Christian story, the crucifixion and resurrection, as more of a problem than a possibility, more of a burden than a joy. They wonder not only how to preach the "old, old story" of cross and resurrection but whether they should preach these themes at all. This book addresses these concerns and shows preachers how to preach the cross and resurrection in fresh, culturally relevant ways that deepen Christian discipleship. Each chapter shows the relevance of preaching the cross for addressing a particular congregational concern. What has ironically become a stumbling block in the pulpit, the stone that preachers often reject--preaching on the cross and resurrection of Jesus--can serve as the cornerstone for building up the congregation for discipleship in our world.
