Book Jesus in an Age of Enlightenment

Download or read book Jesus in an Age of Enlightenment written by Jonathan C. P. Birch and published by Springer. This book was released on 2019-07-18 with total page 493 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book explores the religious concerns of Enlightenment thinkers from Thomas Hobbes to Thomas Jefferson. Using an innovative method, the study illuminates the intellectual history of the age through interpretations of Jesus between c.1650 and c.1826. The book demonstrates the persistence of theology in modern philosophy and the projects of social reform and amelioration associated with the Enlightenment. At the core of many of these projects was a robust moral-theological realism, sometimes manifest in a natural law ethic, but always associated with Jesus and a commitment to the sovereign goodness of God. This ethical orientation in Enlightenment discourse is found in a range of different metaphysical and political identities (dualist and monist; progressive and radical) which intersect with earlier ‘heretical’ tendencies in Christian thought (Arianism, Pelagianism, and Marcionism). This intellectual matrix helped to produce the discourses of irenic toleration which are a legacy of the Enlightenment at its best.

Book excerpt: Jesus Christ was a Zen master? In at least one version of early Christian belief, he sure sounded like one. Early Christianity was far from the gentle and unified belief system that we have been led to believe it was. In fact, in the earliest stages of its development, interpretations of the meanings of Jesus' teachings varied widely, were hotly debated, and differing views were not tolerated well at all. The Jesus narrative that eventually won out was passed on to future generations while the losers had their books burned and adherents imprisoned, tortured, or put to death. Talk about issues with freedom of religion! Luckily, an early Christian group called the "Gnostics", in seeing their beloved books burned and adherents mistreated, buried their most important works in hopes of future discovery. These works were discovered in Nag Hammadi, Egypt in 1945 and have shed quite a bit of light on an alternative and very different interpretation of Jesus' teachings--one that was widely followed in the early years of Christianity, yet more closely resembles the "enlightenment" teachings of Zen and Buddhism. The Zen-like nature of the Gnostic's Jesus is the focus of this work. "What you seek after is within you." - Dialogue of the Savior Scroll up and grab your copy today!

Book The Enlightened Believer

    Book Details:
  • Author : Emmanuel Adewusi
  • Publisher :
  • Release : 2018-02-03
  • ISBN : 9780995349247
  • Pages : 102 pages

Download or read book The Enlightened Believer written by Emmanuel Adewusi and published by . This book was released on 2018-02-03 with total page 102 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Enlightenment means to be full of light. It means to be illuminated. It means to be aware and to understand. It means your eyes are open to the truth and you can see. It means to know the truth. Since knowledge is not the same as enlightenment, a person can acquire knowledge but not understand the acquired knowledge. Enlightenment is a step higher than knowledge acquisition. When you understand, you will effectively apply the knowledge you have, where necessary. Until you are enlightened, you are at the mercy of the devil. Until you are enlightened, you will always need deliverance in one way or the other. God can deliver you from a bondage but you are not truly free until you are enlightened in all areas of your life. The concepts expressed in this book differ from what other religions profess. They might espouse similar terminologies, just as I have, but are proposing different means to be enlightened. The concepts might appear familiar, but they are actually worlds apart in numerous ways. This book will revolutionize your Christian life.

Book Electrical Christianity

    Book Details:
  • Author : L. Ron Gardner
  • Publisher : L Ron Gardner
  • Release : 2013-07
  • ISBN : 0983618119
  • Pages : 173 pages

Download or read book Electrical Christianity written by L. Ron Gardner and published by L Ron Gardner. This book was released on 2013-07 with total page 173 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Electrical Christianity is a revolutionary guide to Jesus' teachings and spiritual en-Light-enment. It provides clear-cut, in-depth instructions on how to directly "plug into" the Divine Being, the Holy One, and literally "pull down" His Power. Grace is not an abstract principle; it is the palpable experience of God's Spirit-power--and anyone who religiously (or devotedly and intensely) practices the discipline of true Holy Communion presented in this book can experience the descent of Divine Power, the Holy Spirit. The true Eucharist, the practice of Holy Communion (which in its "awakened" form implies reception of the Holy Spirit), is the very heart of real Christianity, and the foremost method for attaining salvation (spiritual en-Light-enment). Electrical Christianity not only details the radical (or gone-to-the-root) practice of Holy Communion, but also analogizes it to an electrical circuit. The Eucharist is simply Ohm's Law applied to spirituality, and once you grasp the Eucharist-Ohm's Law connection, which is explicated in this book, you'll become like Jesus: a spiritual revolutionary. In addition to explicating the Eucharist-Ohm's Law connection, the book also sheds penetrating light on psychology, politics, and sociology. It presents a vision of integral psychology that differs markedly from Ken Wilber's, considers Jesus' politics in a modern context, and examines the history and future of Christianity in the New (or Aquarian) Age.

Book The Village Enlightenment in America

Download or read book The Village Enlightenment in America written by Craig Hazen and published by University of Illinois Press. This book was released on 2000-01-05 with total page 212 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Village Enlightenment in America focuses on three nineteenth-century spiritual activists who epitomized the marriage of science and religion fostered in antebellum, pre-Darwinian America by the American Enlightenment. A theologian, writer, and apologist for the nascent Mormon movement, as well as an amateur scientist, Orson Pratt wrote Key to the Universe, or a New Theory of Its Mechanism, to establish a scientific base for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Robert Hare, an inventor and ardent convert to spiritualism, used his scientific expertise to lend credence to the spiritualist movement. Phineas Parkhurst Quimby, generally considered the initiator of the American mind-cure movement, developed an overtly religious concept of science and used it to justify his system of theology. Pratt, Hare, and Quimby all employed a potent combination of popular science and Baconianism to legitimate their new religious ideas. Using the same terms--matter, ether, magnetic force--to account for the behavior of particles, planetary rotation, and the influence of the Holy Ghost, these agents of the Enlightenment constructed complex systems intended to demonstrate a fundamental harmony between the physical and the metaphysical. Through the lives and work of these three influential men, The Village Enlightenment in America opens a window to a time when science and religion, instead of seeming fundamentally at odds with each other, appeared entirely reconcilable.

Book excerpt: Jesus still exists and is and has always been available to those who are open to him. In this channeled book, Jesus speaks to us from another dimension to awaken Christ Consciousness within us. Christ Consciousness refers to enlightenment or the realization of our oneness with all and our inherent divinity, exemplified by Jesus Christ. Jesus lived what he taught, and he taught from a higher consciousness, one free of ego. Jesus was an example of what we all can be, a model of what is possible for every human being, and the messages in this book show us how we can become more Christ-like and live as he did. These messages are also intended to give you the experience of having a relationship with Jesus, as he speaks to you as if you were sitting in his presence. The channeled messages from Jesus, which this book is based on, were part of weekly online video meetings, where Gina Lake and her husband, who is also a nondual spiritual teacher, give what they call Christ Consciousness energy transmissions. The channeled messages from Jesus were given before the transmission to prepare, teach, and inspire those who are there to receive the transmission. Many report feeling a transmission come through these channeled messages as well.

Book The Christ Is Not a Person

Download or read book The Christ Is Not a Person written by J. C. Tefft and published by iUniverse. This book was released on 2009-02 with total page 497 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Why are we born? For what purpose are we here? The longer we remain unaware of what is taking place within us of what drives us and what can liberate us from the bonds of egocentric behavior the longer we allow what the Buddha called the sorrow of life to hold sway. The sorrow of life is the sum and consequence of our total identification with the world that is created by self. The word Consciousness means something more than what the mind of self thinks, imagines, or conceives. Awareness in Pure Consciousness is an awareness that is other than self and beyond thought. Contrary to traditional thinking, the so-called unseen, unknown world is nothing more than Consciousness of which we are unaware. Unawareness in Consciousness has been evolving into Awareness in Consciousness since before time began. The author of this work comprehensively sets forth a meaning of ancient scripture that likely has not been advanced to you before. He demystifies ancient legends and myths so the essential truth of ancient teachings shines through. Using ancient scripture as a guide, he insightfully explores a growing conscious awareness that has been emerging within mankind over the last few thousand years. A must read for anyone looking to discover the deeper meaning of ancient scripture beyond a literal interpretation of the words.

This book was released on 2015-10-20 with total page 308 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: THE TRUE STORY OF UNIVERSAL SALVATION-ENLIGHTENMENT FOR EVERY SOUL Universal Gateway of Enlightenment: The 2nd coming of Jesus as Lord of the World in c.78AD is not an academic wander in the wilderness. It is a very readable book. Rather than an academic work, it is presented to readers as a palatable, historical novel. It has deliciously endearing characters, such as Mari Magadhalene, Apollonius and St. Thomas, with all their quirks, as well as their graces. The book is about the purpose of life, the purpose of Iesous' incarnation as Avatar; about his travels and work among cultures, East and West. It is about the people who made the ministry possible, who funded it and opened doors for him-the "Three Wise Men from the East". And, of course, it is also about the people and his work in the West, who crucified him. Ultimately, this is the story of universal salvation, from the one named in late 1st century Sanskrit-language Scriptures, "the World Savior", the "son of our Father in Heaven" who teaches about helping any and every soul to graduate from Earth School, to stop reincarnating over and over again; to gain spiritual rebirth, enlightenment, and then to ascend to heaven. The Author I take umbrage with the assertion Christians make about Jesus being a liar. Jesus did not lie, as they say, about coming back "within this generation" (40 years), shortly after the fall of Jerusalem. These promises that Jesus made are recorded in Christian Scripture. Shortly after Paul, Peter and James had died, Jerusalem was destroyed, in 70CE. Some reports say more than a million people were slaughtered during that catastrophic time. The Temple burned down; shortly after that, Masada in 73AD; and finally, Jews were despised all over the world and banned from entering Judea for two-hundred years, and were levied a special Judaic-tax to compensate for their errors. These things were, as Iesous had said, 'the end of the world of the Jews', at the time. The Lord came back, just as he had promised: "For just as lightning comes from the East and is seen even to the West, so will be the coming of the Son of Man." Mt 24:27 Buddhists and Hindus embraced the Lord's second coming in c. 75AD. Not just casually, but formally, at the 2nd 4th World Council of Buddhism. New Scriptures released at the time, speak of the Lord's teachings: of our Father in Heaven, of the son, the Holy Spirit, of being reborn a spiritual being, and of universal salvation for all sentient beings. Today, the name of Avalokitesvara, as he is known by His Sanskrit title, is honored by almost two billion easterners as the World Savior. The Lord and a host of spiritual beings working alongside, are here to help every soul-being on Earth, to accomplish spiritual rebirth: enlightenment, to break the cycle of samsara (perpetual reincarnation), and ascend to heaven, or Sukhavati, as it is described in Sanskrit. Jesus' teaching, is that of Avalokitesvara. It sits at the root of Zen, is ingrained in the fiber of Mahayana, and indispensable for unfolding the leaves Hinduism. Jesus worked in the East for most of his life. He spent less than 3 of his last years in the West, where they crucified him. This USA EDITION is produced for the reading pleasure of those who find American English, and standards of style most pleasing.
