Download or read book Handbook of Air Toxics written by Lawrence H. Keith and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2020-09-10 with total page 636 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Handbook of Air Toxics compiles, defines, and clarifies several methods and concepts of airborne toxic substances found in the environment. This comprehensive reference helps regulators, consultants, and other environmental professionals meet the challenges of sampling and analysis, emissions reductions, and health and safety issues related to human exposure. It is an important reference addressing the ongoing concern about the consequences of air pollution, and the implementation and modification of the Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) Clean Air Act. Some of the methods described in the Handbook of Air Toxics include fluorescence, thermal desorption, selected ion monitoring, ion chromatography, light microscopy, specific electrode analysis, titration, colorimetry, atomic absorption, and spectrophotometry. It also covers the use of isokinetic sampling trains, midget impingers, carbon molecular sieves, and sampling canisters in the analysis of air toxics. The Handbook also contains recommendations from the EPA for analytical methods for those air toxics where methods do not already exist and provides advance information on future method development by the EPA.

Book excerpt: Hazard Assessment of Chemicals: Current Developments, Volume 4 serves as a forum for the exposition, evaluation, and analysis of methods, techniques, applications, and approaches in the field of chemical hazard assessment. The text consists of articles tackling subjects in certain areas of chemical hazard assessment. Topics discussed include hazardous substances data bases; field instruments for identifying hazardous materials; water quality criteria for the protection of aquatic life; and the role of environmental chemicals in reproductive failure and teratogenicity. Environmentalists, ecologists, toxicologists, public safety officers and workers, and those concerned with the health effects of chemical agents in the environment will find this book very interesting.
Download or read book The National Toxicology Program s Chemical Database written by Lawrence H. Keith and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 1991-12-31 with total page 84 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This database provides a vast amount of information about potentially toxic chemicals to regulatory and research agencies, consultants, academics, and libraries. The National Toxicology Program's Chemical Database consists of eight volumes containing 50 fields that present detailed information on 2,270 different chemicals. The data is obtained from the literature or experimentally determined. Each compound is listed in every volume even when there is no information available for it in some volumes. Information in the NTP database was gathered and updated as compounds were used throughout a 12 year period from 1979 to 1991. Throughout the eight volumes, the primary chemical name and the Chemical Abstracts Service Registry Number (CAS No.) remain constant and all 2,270 chemicals are listed alphabetically in each volume. The NTP database can be sold as a set or individually. Each volume consists of one 3-1/2" and two 5-1/4" diskettes , in addition to a 64 page manual that describes how to use the software. Diskettes will run on IBM® or IBM-compatible equipment with DOS 2.0 and higher, 640K internal memory (RAM), and a hard drive with at least 2-17MB of available disk space. Use the eight volumes together to get the full benefit of the NTP Chemical Repository Database, or select only those volumes that contain the information you need and use them as stand-alone databases. Each volume consists of one 3-1/2" and two 5-1/4" diskettes, that will run on IBM or IBM-compatible hardware!

Book excerpt: Hazardous Materials Handbook for Emergency Responders breaks down the hazards and response priorities according to the nine classes of hazardous chemicals defined by the U.N. and the U.S. Department of Transportation. Designed to prepare HazMat professionals for all three levels of response, as defined by OSHA, the Handbook: Offers the most complete and current coverage of control and mitigation techniques for chemical emergencies. Provides extensive treatment of transportation and storage vessels. Helps users comply with all relevant government regulations and standards, including OSHA and NFPA training requirements.
Download or read book Hazardous Materials Emergencies written by John R. Cashman and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 1995-10-26 with total page 394 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From the Introduction This book is mostly structured around first-person interviews with nationally and locally recognized experts who have been in hazardous materials response for a number of years. To aid networking, the addresses and telephone numbers of all persons interviewed are listed at the end of each interview. The central narrative theme of the book has been to detail the actual methods, procedures, techniques, tactics, and "lessons learned" of specific hazardous materials response teams (HMRT) drawn from a number of different categories. The object is to have readers find a ready source to provide knowledge of what a teamed, trained, and equipped HMRT uses for methods, tactics, procedures, tools, vehicles, instruments, equipment, strategies, leak/fire/spill control, prevention, remedial actions, decision making, incidents, containment, or hazards. This book answers many questions for emergency responders that they may need to know tostay alive.

Download or read book Standardized Maps for Hazardous Materials Accidents written by and published by . This book was released on 1979 with total page 32 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Problems reported by emergency response personnel in developing pre-emergency plans and making tactical decisions during hazardous materials transportation emergencies prompted the Safety Board to conduct this special investigation. The investigation disclosed a need to improve methods for predicting the expected behavior of hazardous materials in emergencies, for both preplanning and tactical uses. Existing information sources were found to be inadequate for these purposes. A method to improve the recording of hazardous materials behavior in accident investigations that will improve preplanning and tactical decisionmaking for hazardous materials emergencies was identified and has been adopted as a tentative accident reporting standard by the Safety Board for accidents involving hazardous materials. Immediate and potential uses for the standardized hazardous materials behavior maps are identified and implementation problems are discussed.

This book was released on 2010-09-17 with total page 190 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A comprehensive understanding of the potential dangers inherent in warehousing chemicals is the first step in managing the associated risks. Written by industry professionals for warehouse operators, designers, and all who are concerned with the safe warehousing of chemicals, this book offers a performance-based approach to such hazards as health effects, environmental pollution, fire, and explosion, and presents practical means to minimize the risk of these hazards to employees, the surrounding population, the environment, property, and business operations. These basic precepts can be used to evaluate the risks in initial or existing designs for warehousing facilities on a manufacturing site, for freestanding offsite buildings, and for strictly chemical or mixed-use storage. Each of the book’s ten chapters has a list of references and suggestions for further reading. The numerous topics covered make this book invaluable for warehousing designers and operators.
