Book excerpt: I've been playing and teaching guitar for many years, and I'm still amazed by the inspiration you can get just by placing your fingers on the fretboard in sometimes random ways. You can pick or strum a chord, change your fingers around, take one off, or put one down, and "hey presto!" some wonderful sound leaps out of your box with strings. I'm not saying playing some chords are always easy, and it can sometimes feel like an assault course for the fingers, but stick with it and reap the rewards. When I'm teaching I'll often introduce a novice player to an easy to play chord with an exotic sound, and find they're quickly hooked and inspired to learn more. In this course I want to share some of the many ways you can get creative with chords and hopefully inspire you to experiment with them in your own learning and styles of playing; write songs, or simply sit there and chill out! The chords can be strummed or picked, and I'll give you some of my interpretations on the way. I don't want to get too technical or bogged down with 'chord chemistry' as they say, think of them as ideas to play around with - just a few of the many possibilities. If you're new to playing most shapes can be both a way to inspire and also to exercise those fingers!

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Creative and Critical Projects in Classroom Music is both a celebration and extension of John Paynter and Peter Aston’s groundbreaking work on creative classroom music, Sound and Silence, first published in 1970. Building on the central themes of the original work – the child as artist, the role of musical imagination and creativity, and the process of making music – the authors and contributors provide a contemporary response to the spirit and style of Sound and Silence. They offer reflections on the ideas and convictions underpinning Paynter and Aston’s work in light of scholarship developed during the intervening years. This critical work is accompanied by 16 creative classroom projects designed and enacted by contemporary practitioners, raising questions about the nature and function of music in education and society. In summary, this book aims to: Celebrate seminal work on musical creativity in the classroom. Promote the integration of practical, critical and analytical writing and thinking around this key theme for music education. Contribute to initiating the next 50 years of thought in relation to music creativity in the classroom. Offering a unique combination of critical scholarship and practical application, and published on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of Sound and Silence, themes from Paynter and Aston’s work are here given fresh context that aims to inspire a new generation of innovative classroom practice and to challenge current ways of thinking about the music classroom.

Book 1st Steps for a Beginning Guitarist Chords and Chord Progressions

Download or read book 1st Steps for a Beginning Guitarist Chords and Chord Progressions written by Bruce E. Arnold and published by muse eek publishing. This book was released on 2001 with total page 76 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The guitar is the most popular instrument in the world yet most students of the guitar are self taught. This book is a comprehensive for guitar students who have no prior musical training. No matter what type of guitar you play, this book will give you the information you need, and trouble shoot the various pitfalls that can hinder the self-taught musician. The author knows from over 25 years of teaching experience that students form most of their good and bad habits in the first six months of practicing. It is therefore extremely important to use a method book that clearly and concisely covers the important subjects of proper playing technique, tuning, picking, strumming, music theory and rhythm. Furthermore, the only way a student can remember the information learned is to apply it. The hardest part of learning the guitar for a student is switching between chords. This unique method book contains chord progressions using both "open" and "barre" chords that gradually take a student from a beginning level to an advanced level. The publisher's website also has mp3 and midifiles to be played along with, for developing the strumming, time and feel for each chord progression. The chord progressions presented are commonly found in hard rock, rock, folk, blues and country, giving the student a solid harmonic foundation in all these styles. This method book not only gives you pages of pictures but also gives you access to video clips via the publisher's website to demonstrate playing basics in action. The Muse-eek Publishing Company believes the education of a student shouldn't stop with the purchase of a book, therefore our website, offers a FAQ page where students can write in to the author with questions that may and a free "member's section" where students can download other learning materials to further their education.

Book Creative Tools and the Softwarization of Cultural Production

Download or read book Creative Tools and the Softwarization of Cultural Production written by Frédérik Lesage and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2024-01-17 with total page 278 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book explores how creativity is increasingly designed, marketed, and produced with digital products and services — a process referred to as softwarization. If ‘being creative’ has developed into one of the paradigmatic architectures of power for framing the contemporary subject, then an essential component of this architecture involves its material and symbolic configuration through tools. From image editors to digital audio workstations, video editors to game engines, these modern tools are used by creatives every day, and mastering these increasingly complex technologies is now a near-compulsory pathway to creative work. Despite their ubiquity in cultural production, few have sought to theorize them in aggregate and with interdisciplinary breadth. By bringing disparate creative and methodological traditions in one volume, this book provides a comprehensive overview of approaches for understanding this complex, emerging, and dynamic field that speaks beyond the disciplinary categories of ‘tool,’ ‘instrument,’ and/or ‘software’. It makes a unique intervention in the fields of cultural production and the cultural and creative industries.
