Book Environmental Harm and Financial Responsibility

Download or read book Environmental Harm and Financial Responsibility written by Eberhard Feess and published by . This book was released on 2013 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Firms will exert too little care due to a limited liability effect if damages are likely to exceed their equity. This is particularly important for environmental and product liability and motivates the current discussion about mandatory insurance and extending liability to creditors. We model the choice of the care level as a moral hazard problem that can be solved through costly monitoring. Conventional strict liability and lender liability both lead to distortions in the capital structure and to inefficiently low care. By contrast, mandatory liability coverage (financial responsibility) that can be satisfied by either an insurance contract or a lender guarantee leads to the first best allocation if managers can self-insure, and to the second best if managers cannot self-insure but choose to be monitored.

Download or read book Choosing Futures written by Nicholas Foskett and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2002-11-01 with total page 258 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Education is becoming more competitive - choice in education is now a key issue. This book will help parents, schools, colleges, universities and policy makers understand how education and training markets work. Choosing Futures offers a wide ranging perspective on how young people, and their parents, make choices as they travel through a lifetime of education and training. The authors challenge traditional views of how choices are made of primary school, secondary school, college, university and career, which assume that choices are rational and objective. Instead this book reveals how choices depend upon a range of factors: *young people's personal experiences *individual and family histories *perceptions of education and careers. The book compares choice for 5 to 11 year olds, and for 16 and 18 year olds; drawing out models of the decision making process, and at the same time the consequences on schools, colleges and individuals of 'enhanced choice'.

Book Distribution of Responsibilities in International Law

Download or read book Distribution of Responsibilities in International Law written by André Nollkaemper and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2015-09-18 with total page 473 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the second book in the series Shared Responsibility in International Law, which examines the problem of distribution of responsibilities among multiple states and other actors. In its work on the responsibility of states and international organisations, the International Law Commission recognised that attribution of acts to one actor does not exclude possible attribution of the same act to another state or organisation. However, it provided limited guidance for the often complex question of how responsibility is to be distributed among wrongdoing actors. This study fills that gap by shedding light on principles of distribution from extra-legal perspectives. Drawing on disciplines such as political theory, moral philosophy, and economics, this volume enquires into the bases and justifications for apportionment of responsibilities that can support a critique of current international law, offers insight into the justification of alternative interpretations, and provides inspiration for reform and further development of international law.

Book Choice and Public Policy

Download or read book Choice and Public Policy written by Peter Taylor-Gooby and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-01-06 with total page 274 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Public policies increasingly emphasize active consumerism, entrepreneurship on the part of service providers and professionals, privatisation and an expanded role for markets. Choice and Public Policy draws on research by economists, psychologists, sociologists and public policy experts. The research demonstrates that the traditional rational choice model of economic behaviour is unsatisfactory in providing accounts of the way people choose in relation to work, saving, spending, investment and social welfare. It also shows that the public policies of active consumerism, public sector entrepreneurship and privatisation based on this approach are seriously flawed.
