Book A History of Macroeconometric Model building

Download or read book A History of Macroeconometric Model building written by Ronald G. Bodkin and published by Aldershot, Hants, England : E. Elgar. This book was released on 1991 with total page 600 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This major book presents, for the first time, an authoritative history of developments in macroeconometric modelling since the 1930s. It focuses in particular on the construction of mathematico-statistical models of entire economies, estimated from national accounts and other macroeconomic data. International and comparative in scope, the book contains chapters prepared by specialists from the different countries concerned. This landmark book is indispensable to an understanding of the history and development of large scale econometric models of modern economies.

Book Intuition in Science and Mathematics

Download or read book Intuition in Science and Mathematics written by Efraim Fischbein and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2005-12-19 with total page 234 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In writing the present book I have had in mind the following objectives: - To propose a theoretical, comprehensive view of the domain of intuition. - To identify and organize the experimental findings related to intuition scattered in a wide variety of research contexts. - To reveal the educational implications of the idea, developed for science and mathematics education. Most of the existing monographs in the field of intuition are mainly concerned with theoretical debates - definitions, philosophical attitudes, historical considerations. (See, especially the works of Wild (1938), of Bunge (1 962) and of Noddings and Shore (1 984).) A notable exception is the book by Westcott (1968), which combines theoretical analyses with the author’s own experimental studies. But, so far, no attempt has been made to identify systematically those findings, spread throughout the research literature, which could contribute to the deciphering of the mechanisms of intuition. Very often the relevant studies do not refer explicitly to intuition. Even when this term is used it occurs, usually, as a self-evident, common sense term.

Book Mathematical Modeling of Random and Deterministic Phenomena

Download or read book Mathematical Modeling of Random and Deterministic Phenomena written by Solym Mawaki Manou-Abi and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2020-04-28 with total page 308 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book highlights mathematical research interests that appear in real life, such as the study and modeling of random and deterministic phenomena. As such, it provides current research in mathematics, with applications in biological and environmental sciences, ecology, epidemiology and social perspectives. The chapters can be read independently of each other, with dedicated references specific to each chapter. The book is organized in two main parts. The first is devoted to some advanced mathematical problems regarding epidemic models; predictions of biomass; space-time modeling of extreme rainfall; modeling with the piecewise deterministic Markov process; optimal control problems; evolution equations in a periodic environment; and the analysis of the heat equation. The second is devoted to a modelization with interdisciplinarity in ecological, socio-economic, epistemological, demographic and social problems. Mathematical Modeling of Random and Deterministic Phenomena is aimed at expert readers, young researchers, plus graduate and advanced undergraduate students who are interested in probability, statistics, modeling and mathematical analysis.

Book The Interdisciplinary Century

Download or read book The Interdisciplinary Century written by Julia V. Douthwaite and published by . This book was released on 2005 with total page 362 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Judging by most contemporary accounts, the virtues of cross-disciplinary research, teaching and scholarship are above reproach. Conference organisers announce with pride that 'l'interdisciplinarité a porté ses fruits'; governments and universities sponsor ever-growing numbers of interdisciplinary research teams. Such activity is especially pertinent to eighteenth-century studies. The Republic of Letters inspired scholars, scientists, artists, and writers to engage in spirited, multilingual and long-term correspondence with colleagues throughout Europe. As many contributors to this timely and provocative volume argue, a certain kind of interdisciplinarity is required for any consideration of eighteenth-century topics. But what impact has this enthusiasm for interdisciplinarity had on our understanding of objects, monuments, texts, and events of the past? Born of an intense series of debates, this volume takes on current controversies with unflinching honesty. Contributors address questions of theory and practice. Does interdisciplinary investigation carry any meaningful challenge to the disciplines themselves, or are we merely trading one kind of evidence for another? What institutional constraints work against such research and teaching? Is interdisciplinarity a pressing preoccupation of scholars in France and the UK, as it is in the US? The introduction provides a critical history of interdisciplinarity and outlines the key tensions of university life as experienced by students and scholars in the US, the UK and France. Position papers provide state-of-the-field analyses - some invigorating or even utopian, others darkly brooding. Case studies present examples of contemporary work, showing what might happen when a literary scholar confronts a pornographer's battles, when an art historian takes on an 'undisciplined' object or, perhaps most intriguing, when a practising attorney evaluates 'legal' approaches to literature.
