Book Parents and Schools 1993

Download or read book Parents and Schools 1993 written by Pamela Munn and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2018-01-12 with total page 163 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Published in 1993, this book explores the rights that parents have been given over their children’s schooling. Parents now have the right to choose the school their children will attend and to be involved with school management. These rights and roles for parents as customers and managers are intended to make schools more responsive to parental concerns and to improve school quality. This book considers these new roles of parents, how they affect traditional notions of home-school partnerships, and the effect on schools. It will appeal to those interested in home-school relations, in educational governance, and in comparing British policy in these areas with that of Europe.

Book Higher Standards Better Schools for All

Download or read book Higher Standards Better Schools for All written by Great Britain: Department for Education and Skills and published by The Stationery Office. This book was released on 2005-10-25 with total page 126 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The White Paper sets out the Government's proposals to further reform the management of schools in England, with the aim of creating a system shaped by parental choice where schools have greater autonomy in admissions policy. Proposals include: i) the role of local education authorities confined to being a local commissioner of services rather than an education provider, with a focus on raising standards through spreading best practice and championing parental choice; ii) each school able to acquire a self-governing trust status (similar to the network of Academies) or become a self-governing foundation school; iii) an increased role for new providers and the creation of a national Schools Commissioner to drive change and to promote the development of trust schools; iv) an expansion in the number of Academies to 200 by the year 2010 and easier provision for independent schools to enter the state system; v) the weakest schools to be given one year to improve standards or face closure, whilst high performing schools will have reduced bureaucracy and a lighter touch inspection regime; vi) increased provision for free school transport for poorer pupils; and vii) the introduction of a right for teachers to discipline pupils.

Book School Leadership

  • Pages : 239 pages

Download or read book School Leadership written by Professor Gerald Grace and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2005-08-31 with total page 239 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This text provides a study of the education policy scholarship of leadership. It examines the ways in which concepts of educational leadership and management have evolved historically and culturally, reviewing contemporary debates about the nature of school leadership.; The question of what school leadership could and should be is at the centre of political, ideological and educational debate in many societies. These debates involve cultural conservatives, New Right marketeers, democrats and community educators, feminists and critical theorists as well as school governors, headteachers and teachers, parents, community members and school students.; These debates are reviewed and the theoretical context is illuminated by fieldwork accounts derived from the research participation of 88 headteachers working in English schools, both primary and secondary. Such accounts provide an insight into the challenges of contemporary school leadership as headteachers face new power relationships, new curriculum responsibilities and management and marketing cultures which generate moral, ethical and professional dilemmas for many of them.

Book Teaching and Learning

Download or read book Teaching and Learning written by Alex Moore and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2012 with total page 208 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Teaching and Learning: Pedagogy, Curriculum and Culture is designed to share important theory with readers in an accessible but sophisticated way. It offers an overview of the key issues and dominant theories of teaching and learning as they impact upon the practice of education professionals in the classroom. This second edition has been updated to take account of significant changes in the field; young people's use of digital technologies, the increasing involvement of world of business in state education, and ongoing high-profile debates about assessment, to name but a few. It examines the global move from traditional subject-and-knowledge based curricula towards skills and problem-solving and discusses how the emphasis on education for citizenship has forced us to reconsider the social functions of education. Central topics also covered include: an assessment of the most influential theorists of learning and teaching the ways in which public educational policy impinges on local practice the nature and role of language and culture in formal educational settings an assessment of different models of 'good teaching' alternative models of curriculum and pedagogy. With questions, points for consideration and ideas for further reading and research throughout, this book delivers discussion and analysis designed to support understanding of classroom interactions and to contribute to improved practice. It will be essential reading for all student teachers, those engaged in professional development, and Education Studies students.

Book The Vocational Quest

    Book Details:
  • Author : Helen Connell
  • Publisher : Routledge
  • Release : 2002-02-07
  • ISBN : 1134838573
  • Pages : 285 pages

Download or read book The Vocational Quest written by Helen Connell and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2002-02-07 with total page 285 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Government attempts in recent years to create a national system of vocational education and training have marked a profound shift both in educational policy and in underlying concepts of what education is for. Relations between schools and the working world are changing all the time and the implementation of ideas of vocationalism has forced a blurring of the time-honoured boundaries between educations concerned with concepts and training, or with skills. The challenge now is to define how the schools can give young people the foundations for life in a working world in which they are likely to have to change jobs and where work will fill a smaller proportion of their lives. The Vocational Quest maps the evolution of vocationalism in Britain in historical terms and examines how the particular forms that have come into being in the last few years compare with developments in other parts of the world, including Continental Europe, Japan, the United States, Australia and New Zealand. It argues for new forms of communication and partnership between formal education and training and the wider community, in which values will be shared and no one partner will win at the expense of others.

Book School and System Leadership

Download or read book School and System Leadership written by Sue Robinson and published by A&C Black. This book was released on 2012-03-08 with total page 232 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: School leadership is undergoing significant change as headteachers respond to new opportunities and challenges offered to or imposed on them as a result of government policy. There have been increasing calls for transformational change to redesign the school system to provide a suitable workforce for the knowledge economy and to manage the anticipated shortage of future school leaders. Sue Robinson combines her professional experience as a practising primary headteacher and National Leader of Education with recent research into the impact of government policy on the roles of primary heads to offer an analysis of the shifting nature of school leadership. Headteachers have taken advantage of roles available including consultancy, leadership of academies and federations and children's centres. Including interview material with 27 'outstanding' primary headteachers, this is the first book combining research and practitioner insight to show how: - heads have managed the educational agenda- how they have built capacity in school to sustain their new internal and external roles - their motivations, insights and experiences- the implications for government educational policy and leadership development
