Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: I have always had a dog since I was a child. I have loved them all-each one was special-but after I lost my husband, I was alone. My daughter insisted I get a dog to keep me company. I had decided not to get another dog since I was retired and getting older, but my daughter took me to a pet store on a Saturday during their adoption event. I kept saying to my daughter I didn't want to get a dog, but before I knew it, I was holding this brown and white dog. My daughter was giving the information to finalize the adoption. I didn't think this was a good idea, but I had adopted this dog. My daughter took me shopping for doggie supplies. I was angry my daughter had forced me into getting a dog. Let me tell you, it has been the most wonderful experience. Chloe is the sweetest dog and I love her so much. She and I enjoy every day we spend together. Thanks to the pet store and their adoption program, Mostly Mutts-the shelter that brought Chloe and me together-and my determined daughter. I love Chloe. Please remember to donate to your local rescue or shelter. The need is great and much appreciated. The volunteers resucue the animals and give their time and efforts to see that each rescue is given a second chance. Thanks to all. Money from this book is to go toward the Animal Rescue and Mostly Mutts.

It may be convoluted. It may be conspicuous. Hell, it might not even make any sense, but that's for you to decide upon and for me to not care about. In the end, I'm only 23, and this is just a jumble of writings and typings, every so often in the moment, and I'm proud of it. Tha year was 2010, and I'd recently graduated.

Mai Tai’d Up continues New York Times bestselling author Alice Clayton’s Cocktail series, which began with Wallbanger and continued with Rusty Nailed and Screwdrivered. The gossip mill in the seaside community of Monterey is churning about Chloe Patterson, the newcomer who is starting a sanctuary for rescued pit bulls. It’s rumored that she’s a former beauty queen (true) who ditched her fiancé the morning of their wedding (also true). And that while she’s not looking for a new man, the good-looking local veterinarian has his eye on her. Absolutely, positively true. When Lucas Campbell isn’t at the family veterinary clinic, he’s paddle boarding in Monterey Bay. Recently single, he’s definitely not in the market for a new relationship, but he still can’t resist taking a second, third, and fourth look at the recent arrival of Miss Golden State. Neither Lucas nor Chloe has any interest in being tied down. Being tied up, however—now there’s a thought. But are a few Mai Tais, a moonlit night, and the music of Frank Sinatra enough to allow them both to forget their past? Let’s hope Ol’ Blue Eyes knows what he’s doing. Mix one part tiki, one part kinky, and a splash of old black magic matchmaking, and it’s time to be . . . Mai Tai’d Up.

Book Frankenstein s Daughters

Download or read book Frankenstein s Daughters written by Jane L. Donawerth and published by Syracuse University Press. This book was released on 1997-04-01 with total page 252 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Women Science fiction authors—past and present—are united by the problems they face in attempting to write in this genre, an overwhelmingly male-dominated field. Science fiction has been defined by male-centered, scientific discourse that describes women as alien "others" rather than rational beings. This perspective has defined the boundaries of science fiction, resulting in women writers being excluded as equal participants in the genre. Frankenstein's Daughters explores the different strategies women have used to negotiate the minefields of their chosen career: they have created a unique utopian science formulated by and for women, with women characters taking center stage and actively confronting oppressors. This type of depiction is a radical departure from the condition where women are relegated to marginal roles within the narratives. Donawerth takes a comprehensive look at the field and explores the works of authors such as Mary Shelley, Marion Zimmer Bradley, Ursula K. Le Guin, and Anne McCaffrey.
