Book Chiron Pholus and Nessus

Download or read book Chiron Pholus and Nessus written by Melanie Reinhart and published by . This book was released on 2014-04-12 with total page 190 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This unique book offers the first comprehensive exploration of the Minor Planets now classified as 'Centaurs'. It was first published in 1996 (in Part II of 'Saturn, Chiron and the Centaurs'), and is still unsurpassed. This stand-alone version includes extra material on the naming of Nessus, and all technical information has been updated. If you resonate with the astrology of Chiron, this material is sure to interest you, as the themes of the Centaurs represent a vital extension of its meaning in the horoscope. Melanie Reinhart's ground-breaking work, "Chiron and the Healing Journey," opened the eyes of the astrological world to Chiron's potential for distilling wisdom from our greatest suffering, and to the way its process accompanies our awakening. "Chiron, Pholus and Nessus" expands this material in a lively seminar format. After being reclassified several times, Chiron is now the prototype of a new sub-category of celestial objects called 'The Centaurs', originating in the Kuiper Belt, beyond the edge of the solar system. These Minor Planets are 'messengers' from deep space which signify experiences of the transpersonal reality which facilitates our relationship with the celestial and earthly aspects of our nature and existence.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Saturn, Chiron and the Centaurs - To the Edge and Beyond by Melanie Reinhart. Part I - Saturn: Time. Heritage and Substance Material on Saturn, planet of "the edge" of structure, manifestation and the preservation of what has already been established. Traditional meanings of Saturn are explored in consideration of our contemporary condition of rapid change, and how this affects our relationship with our own Saturn. Mythological images discussed include the Greek Kronos and Pan, Parsifal and the Fool, and the processes of Alchemy and Karma. The traditional domicile of Saturn is reviewed, its transit cycle explored in detail, and the final section includes Saturn discussed through the 12 houses. Part II - The Centaurs: Chiron, Pholus and Nessus Brings ground-breaking new ideas drawn from recent astronomical discoveries in the outer solar system.Several new celestial objects that behave somewhatlike Chiron have been catalogued, and officially named "Centaurs." This unique compilation presents new material concerning the orbit cycle of Chiron, and a summary and elaboration of astrological research to date on Pholus, the second Centaur. In addition, original material on the meaning of the third Centaur, 1992HA2, 'Nessus' is included. This book is still the most comprehensive source of astrological information about the Centaurs. Their meaning is re-contextualised, and an ephemeris for Chiron, Pholus and Nessus is included, as well as several explanatory diagrams. All technical material was specially computed by Dieter Koch, and revised in 2011. The reader can participate in seminars where seed ideas were being expressed for the first time. There is enough material in this seminar for those interested to begin understanding the Centaurs in the horoscope.

Book The Night Sky

  • Author : Richard Grossinger
  • Publisher :
  • Release : 2014
  • ISBN : 1583947108
  • Pages : 841 pages

Download or read book The Night Sky written by Richard Grossinger and published by . This book was released on 2014 with total page 841 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Ever since Homo sapiens first looked up at the stars, we as a species have been looking for meaning in the mysteries of the night sky. Over the millennia, as our knowledge, science, and technology developed, the stories we told ourselves about the universe and our place in it developed as well. In The Night Sky, Richard Grossinger traces those developments, covering multiple aspects of humanity's complex relationship to the cosmos. Covering not only astronomy but also cosmology, cosmogony, astrology, and science fiction, he offers us a revelatory look at the firmament through his own telescope, fitted with an anthropological lens. Throughout his explorations, Grossinger continually reflects on the deeper meaning of our changing concepts about the universe and creation, offering insight into how each new discovery causes us to redefine the values, moralities, and aesthetics by which we live. He also calls into question the self-aggrandizing notion that humanity can and will conquer all, and injects our strident confidence in science with a healthy dose of humility and wonder. Filled with poetic observation and profound questions, The Night Sky is a brilliant reflection of humanity's relationship with the cosmos--a relationship fed by longing, doubt, and awe.

Book Chiron and the Healing Journey

Download or read book Chiron and the Healing Journey written by Melanie Reinhart and published by . This book was released on 2010 with total page 464 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A CONTEMPORARY CLASSIC. This in-depth study of the minor planet Chiron traces the development of the archetype of the Shaman, or Wounded Healer, which accompanies the soul's journey of awakening. It also demonstrates how this theme is reflected in the astronomical picture, and in turn revealed in the individual horoscope. Chiron's story in Greek mythology is explored and illuminated with skilled interpretation, and there are two large sections detailing Chiron's symbolism and meaning through the signs and houses, and aspecting the planets. The chapter on transits describes the profound process which Chiron signals as it moves around the horoscope over time. This book is essential reading for anyone seeking to shed light on the astrological symbolism and meaning of Chiron. Chiron was discovered in 1977 as a celestial anomaly, but is now in a class of its own. In the early 1990s, exciting discoveries within astronomical science revealed a new category of objects, named the Centaurs'. Chiron is considered the major representative of this group which comprises short-orbit comets that cross the paths of the planets from Jupiter to Pluto. The symbolism of this is perfect, as Chiron stands for that luminous thread of consciousness which links the inner and outer dimensions of our human experience, helping us to make sense of our suffering in a deeply personal way, and thus to release our attachment to it. This book is a classic of original thinking, inspiration, depth of astrological experience and careful research. It has more than stood the test of time, and is appreciated by an ever-growing number of astrologers who focus on the soul's unfoldment through life experience, bitter or sweet. This book has addressed and accompanied the healing journey of many thousands of people all over the world. REVISION This edition of 'Chiron and the Healing Journey' represents a major revision of the best-selling previous editions, first published in 1989 and 1999 by Arkana, and in April 2010 in paperback by Starwalker Press. Changes include an entirely new section on the astronomy of Chiron, and how it is reflected in the mythology. The final section 'Spirit of the Age' has been rewritten to address more precisely our contemporary concerns. There is much new case material illustrating Chiron in the horoscope, and the reader is also briefly introduced to other Minor Planets in the same category as Chiron. The mythological base has also been expanded, and there is an in-depth exploration of the 'Chiron Return' which occurs at age 50, representing a major 'rite of passage' for everyone.

Book Harry Potter and the Classical World

Download or read book Harry Potter and the Classical World written by Richard A. Spencer and published by McFarland. This book was released on 2015-07-11 with total page 325 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: J.K. Rowling has drawn deeply from classical sources to inform and color her Harry Potter novels, with allusions ranging from the obvious to the obscure. "Fluffy," the vicious three-headed dog in Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone, is clearly a repackaging of Cerberus, the hellhound of Greek and Roman mythology. But the significance of Rowling's quotation from Aeschylus at the front of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows is a matter of speculation. Her use of classical material is often presented with irony and humor. This extensive analysis of the Harry Potter series examines Rowling's wide range of allusion to classical characters and themes and her varied use of classical languages. Chapters discuss Harry and Narcissus, Dumbledore's many classical predecessors, Lord Voldemort's likeness to mythical figures, and magic in Harry Potter and classical antiquity--among many topics.

Book Reading Dante

Download or read book Reading Dante written by Jesper Hede and published by Lexington Books. This book was released on 2007 with total page 316 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Reading Dante: The Pursuit of Meaning examines the problem of determining the thematic unity of Dante's Divina Commedia in the history of Dante studies. The question of unity has puzzled Dante readers for centuries, due to an apparent discrepancy between Dante's construction of the afterworld and medieval Christian teachings on the conditions of the afterlife. If all sins condemned in Hell can be forgiven, we would expect to see them purged in Purgatory and their virtuous opposite celebrated in Paradise. In Dante's account, however, the three realms of the afterlife appear as self-contained entities with only partially related structures that undermine the establishment of thematic correspondences and the determination of the poem's thematic unity. Was Dante inconsistent in his exposition of the divine order, or have Dante scholars been inconsistent in their treatment of the poem's thematic content? Jesper Hede examines the prevalent strategies of reading applied by Dante scholars in their attempt to solve the problem of unity. Detailing the major contributions to the resolution of the problem and focusing on medieval philosophy and modern hermeneutics, Hede argues that a systematic parallel reading of the poem's three parts reveals that it is the vision of divine order that gives the poem its thematic unity.

In Sacred Psychiatry, you will be introduced to a diverse range of holistic approaches to healing. This book offers invaluable guidance on how to develop a personal spiritual practice and highlights the profound significance of fulfilling the soul’s purpose. It illustrates the usefulness of astrology, emphasizes how toxic relationships undermine healing, and showcases the remarkable healing power of food as medicine. Sacred Psychiatry also provides a holistic framework for weaning off of psychiatric pharmaceuticals and highlights treatable but frequently overlooked complex chronic conditions such as mold toxicity, mast cell activation syndrome, and Ehlers-Danlos syndrome. Judy Suzanne Reis Tsafrir, MD, is a holistic healer with a private psychiatry and psychoanalysis practice in Newton, Massachusetts. She is a board-certified adult and child psychiatrist and psychoanalyst, is on the faculty of Harvard Medical School and the Boston Psychoanalytic Institute, and teaches and supervises at the Cambridge Health Alliance.

Book Herakles

  • Author : Emma Stafford
  • Publisher : Routledge
  • Release : 2013-06-17
  • ISBN : 1136519262
  • Pages : 483 pages

Download or read book Herakles written by Emma Stafford and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2013-06-17 with total page 483 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There is more material available on Herakles than any other Greek god or hero. His story has many more episodes than those of other heroes, concerning his life and death as well as his battles with myriad monsters and other opponents. In literature, he appears in our earliest Greek epic and lyric poetry, is reinvented for the tragic and comic stage, and later finds his way into such unlikely areas as philosophical writing and love poetry. In art, his exploits are amongst the earliest identifiable mythological scenes, and his easily-recognisable figure with lionskin and club was a familiar sight throughout antiquity in sculpture, vase-painting and other media. He was held up as an ancestor and role-model for both Greek and Roman rulers, and widely worshipped as a god, his unusual status as a hero-god being reinforced by the story of his apotheosis. Often referred to by his Roman name Hercules, he has continued to fascinate writers and artists right up to the present day. In Herakles, Emma Stafford has successfully tackled the ‘Herculean task’ of surveying both the ancient sources and the extensive modern scholarship in order to present a hugely accessible account of this important mythical figure. Covering both Greek and Roman material, the book highlights areas of consensus and dissent, indicating avenues for further study on both details and broader issues. Easy to read, Herakles is perfectly suited to students of classics and related disciplines, and of interest to anyone looking for an insight into ancient Greece’s most popular hero.
