This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 379 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An expert and illuminating review of the leading models of nuclear structure: effective field theories based on quantum chromodynamics; ab initio models based on Monte Carlo methods employing effective nucleon-nucleon interactions; diagonalization and the Monto Carlo shell model; non-relativistic and relativistic mean-field theory and its extensions; and symmetry-dictated approaches. Theoretical advances in major areas of nuclear structure are discussed: nuclei far from stability and radioactive ion beams; gamma ray spectroscopy; nuclear astrophysics and electroweak interactions in nuclei; electron scattering; nuclear superconductivity; superheavy elements. The interdisciplinary aspects of the many-body problem are also discussed. Recent experimental data are examined in light of state-of-the-art calculations. Recent advances in several broad areas of theoretical structure are covered, making the book ideal as a supplementary textbook.

Book Recent Progress in Many Body Theories

Download or read book Recent Progress in Many Body Theories written by T.L. Ainsworth and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 507 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The present volume contains the texts of the invited talks delivered at the Sev enth International Conference on Recent Progress in Many-Body Theories held at the University of Minnesota during the period August 26-31, 1991. The proceedings of the Fourth Conference (Oulu, Finland, 1987) and Fifth Conference (Arad, Israel, 1989) have been published by Plenum as the first two volumes of this series. Papers from the First Conference (Trieste, 1978) comprise Nuclear Physics volume A328, Nos. 1, 2. The Second Conference (Oaxtepec, Mexico, 1989) was published by Springer-Verlag as volume 142 of "Lecture Notes in Physics," entitled "Recent Progress in Many Body Theories." Volume 198 of the same series contains the papers from the Third Conference (Altenberg, Germany, 1983). These volumes are intended to cover a broad spectrum of current research topics in physics that benefit from the application of many-body theories for their elucidation. At the same time there is a focus on the development and refinement of many-body methods. One of the major aims of the conference series has been to foster the ex change of ideas among physicists working in such diverse areas as nucleon-nucleon in teractions, nuclear physics, astronomy, atomic and molecular physics, quantum chem istry, quantum fluids, and condensed matter physics. The present volume contains contributions from all of these areas.

Book Aspect of the Many body Problem in Nuclear Physics

Download or read book Aspect of the Many body Problem in Nuclear Physics written by Alexander S. Dyhdalo and published by . This book was released on 2018 with total page 281 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Concerning many-body calculations, at present only phenomenological energy density functionals are able to solve for the full table of nuclides. However these functionals are currently unconnected to QCD and have no existing method for systematic improvement. A technique, the density matrix expansion (DME), is one way to add microscopic chiral physics into these energy functionals. We develop a new formulation of the DME using local coordinate space regulators and allow for explicit Delta isobars in the chiral potentials. The resulting functionals show systematic improvement order-by-order in the chiral expansion and have non-trivial improvements in nuclear binding energy residuals over the previous Skyrme state of the art.

Book From Nuclei and Their Constituents to Stars

Download or read book From Nuclei and Their Constituents to Stars written by A. Molinari and published by IOS Press. This book was released on 2003-07-31 with total page 699 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book focuses on the ideas to embed nuclear physics in the larger context of hadronic physics by stressing and deepening its widening overlap with particle, astroparticle and condensed matter physics and to emphasize the unity of the two facets not only of nuclear, but of the whole physics; the theoretical and the experimental ones. Counteracting the ominous trend of enlarging the gap between the two, the danger being of depriving experimental physics of ideas promoting experiments and of transforming theoretical physics into metaphysics. The reader will find modern conceptions on nuclear structure, how atomic nuclei are probed through the scattering of high energy electrons and how they interact when accelerated at ultra-relativistic energies. The item connects to the quest for the quark-gluon plasma, perhaps the central theme of the contemporary hadronic physics, whose unraveling requires a vast and profound knowledge of both nuclear and particle physics, in particular QCD.

Book Extended Density Functionals in Nuclear Structure Physics

Download or read book Extended Density Functionals in Nuclear Structure Physics written by G. A. Lalazissis and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2004-03-25 with total page 402 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The experimental and theoretical investigation of nuclei far from the valley of beta-stability is the main subject of modern nuclear structure research. Although the most successful nuclear structure models are purely phenomenological, they nevertheless exploit basic properties of QCD at low energies. This book focuses on the current efforts to bridge the gap between phenomenology and the principles derived from QCD using the extended density functional approach which is based on the successful DFT methods to tackle similarly complex interacting systems in molecular and condensed matter physics. Conceived as a series of pedagogical lectures, this volume addresses researchers in the field as well as postgraduate students and non-specialized scientists from related areas who seek a high-level but accessible introduction to the subject.
