Book China s Social Insurance in the Twentieth Century

Download or read book China s Social Insurance in the Twentieth Century written by Aiqun Hu and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2015-10-27 with total page 232 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In China’s Social Insurance in the Twentieth Century, Aiqun Hu develops a framework of “interactive diffusion of global models” in examining the history of China’s social insurance since the 1910s. The book covers both Nationalist- and Communist-controlled areas (1927-1949) and Taiwan (1949-present), surpassing the party divide. It argues that China’s progression in social insurance resulted from diffusion of two global models (German capitalist and Soviet socialist social insurance) until the early 1990s. Thereafter, China’s social insurance reforms were increasingly directed by the World Bank’s neoliberal models, which also influenced Taiwan’s pension reforms. During the entire process, however, global forces provided the basic intellectual framework, while national forces determined the timing and specifics of adopting the models.

Book The Routledge International Handbook to Welfare State Systems

Download or read book The Routledge International Handbook to Welfare State Systems written by Christian Aspalter and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2017-01-12 with total page 683 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Developing countries may not have full-fledged welfare states like those we find in Europe, but certainly they have welfare state systems. For comparative social policy research the term "welfare state systems" has many advantages, as there are numerous different types/models of welfare state systems around the world. This path-breaking book, edited by Christian Aspalter, brings together leading experts to discuss social policy in 25 countries/regions around the world. From the most advanced welfare state systems in Scandinavia and Western Central Europe to the developing powers of Brazil, China, India, Russia, Mexico and Indonesia, each country-specific chapter provides a historical overview, discusses major characteristics of the welfare state system, analyzes country-specific problems, as well as critical current and future trends for further discussions, while also providing one additional major focal point/issue for greater in-depth analysis. This book breaks new ground in ideal-typical welfare regime theory, identifying now in total 10 worlds of welfare capitalism. It provides broad perspectives on critical challenges which welfare state systems in the developing and developed world alike must address now and in the future. It will be of great interest to all scholars and students of social policy, social development, development and health economists, public policy, health policy, sociology, social work and social policy makers and administrators. This book is a reference book for researchers and social policy administrators; it can also serve as a textbook for courses on comparative social policy, international social policy and international social development.

Book Thank You China

Download or read book Thank You China written by Pedro Nueno and published by Plataforma. This book was released on 2017-09-04 with total page 83 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It is certainly fair to thank China for all its contributions to the world and its generosity. Especially for Pedro Nueno, professor of management and author of this book, who has found China to be his best ally in promoting higher education and establishing business schools that have contributed to the economic and social development in different countries. The author reflects on the reasons why China is the only country capable of challenging the economic leadership of the United States of America. "Thank You, China" is the outcome of these reflections, as well as an analysis of a country that never ceases to amaze us with its capacity to generate employment, its contribution to technological development, its trade routes and its will to strengthen services such as healthcare, niche tourism, banking and financial services, among others. This is a book about the recent past, present and future of the Asian giant. Its history may provide us with some useful clues about its future: openness to foreign investment, steady pace of growth, and willingness to step in to correct market unbalances. The author concludes that if this trend continues, China will become sooner or later what we all suspect: the world's leading economy, and a true global power.

Book People s Republic of China

Download or read book People s Republic of China written by International Monetary Fund. Asia and Pacific Dept and published by International Monetary Fund. This book was released on 2017-08-15 with total page 77 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This Selected Issues paper examines the drivers and prospects for high levels of savings in China. China has one of the highest levels of national savings in the world, which is at the heart of its external and internal imbalances. High and rising household savings have mainly resulted from demographic changes as a result of the one-child policy and the breakdown of the social safety net during the transition from a planned to a market economy. Demographic changes will put downward pressure on national savings. Policy efforts to strengthen the social safety net and reduce income inequality are also needed to reduce savings further and faster and to boost consumption.

Book The Nanotechnology Revolution

Download or read book The Nanotechnology Revolution written by Dale A. Stirling and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2018-01-17 with total page 202 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Nanotechnology is changing the world in a very big way, but at the atomic and sub-atomic level. Although the roots of nanotechnology can be traced back to more than a century ago, the last three decades have witnessed an explosion of nano-based technologies and products. This reference work examines the history, current status, and future directions of nanotechnology through an exhaustive search of the technical and scientific literature. The more than 4000 bibliographic citations it includes are carefully organized into core subject areas, and a geographic and subject index allows readers to quickly locate documents of interest. Although a sense of the global reach and interest in nanotechnology can be gleaned from the reference sections of countless journal articles, conference papers, and books, this is the only reference work providing an in-depth global perspective that is ready-made for nanotechnology professionals and those interested in learning more about all things nanotechnology. Despite the abundance of online resources, there is still an urgent need for well-researched, well-presented, concise, and thematically organized reference works. Instead of relying on wiki pages, citation aggregators, and related websites, the author searched the databases and databanks of scholarly literature search providers such as EBSCO, ProQuest, PUBMED, STN International, and Thomson Reuters. In addition, he used select serials-related databases to account for pertinent documents from countries in which English is not the primary national language (i.e., China Online Journals, e-periodica, J-STAGE, and SciELO Brazil among others).
