Book Chinese Provincial Leaders

Download or read book Chinese Provincial Leaders written by Zhiyue Bo and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2019-09-17 with total page 181 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Based on biographical data on more than 2,500 individuals in China's thirty provincial units from the beginning of the People's Republic in 1949, this is the most comprehensive and systematic treatment of China's provincial leaders ever published. The study presents detailed accounts of four categories of provincial leaders - party secretaries, deputy party secretaries, governors, and vice governors - including age, gender, nationality, hometown, education, party membership, and length of membership. It also traces the careers of these leaders in terms of promotion, demotion, transfer, and retirement. And using sophisticated statistical analysis, it links the political mobility of these leaders to the economic performance of their provincial units.

Book Central Control and Local Discretion in China

Download or read book Central Control and Local Discretion in China written by Chae-ho Chŏng and published by Oxford University Press, USA. This book was released on 2000 with total page 232 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Theoretically, this study contends that the overall scope of local discretion is circumscribed by the dominant norms and incentive relations embedded in the implementation dynamics. Methodologically, the book employs a combination of aggregate analyses and comparative case studies. Empirically, on the basis of newly available materials (including classified documents) and interviews, it challenges the 'peasant-power' school which has somehow allowed local governments to evaporate in its descriptions of post-Mao decollectivization."--BOOK JACKET.

Book Chinese Provincial Leaders

Download or read book Chinese Provincial Leaders written by Alan M. Glassman and published by M.E. Sharpe. This book was released on 2005 with total page 210 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An emergent approach to organizational strategy making assumptions that few organizations actually realize the goal of deliberative, top-down strategic planning, and that effective strategy making occurs on a continual basis and is a shared activity of the entire organization. This innovative book provides the first in-depth look at how real organizations are formulating and implementing strategic change under this new paradigm. The authors have dug deep into three large and varied organizations (Hewlett-Packard, the California State University system, and the County of Los Angeles) and identified each one's efforts to develop a new strategic planning process better-suited to match the current pace of change and environmental unpredictability. The book is filled with vignettes, quotes, and real-world examples that illustrate the trend toward faster, more adaptive strategic planning processes. It is relevant for a wide range of business, governmental, and non-profit settings, and should be required reading in any course on strategic planning.

Book Centre and Province in the People s Republic of China

Download or read book Centre and Province in the People s Republic of China written by David S. G. Goodman and published by CUP Archive. This book was released on 1986-10-09 with total page 280 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: According to common misconception the Chinese political system is highly centralized. One result of this widely accepted view is that China specialists have often neglected the study of decision-making as a process. Concentrating upon the neighbouring but contrasting provinces of Sichuan and Guizhou during the decade before the Cultural Revolution, this book examines the interaction between centre and province and, without adopting a 'centralist' or a 'pluralist' viewpoint, argues that a spatial dimension is of necessity part of the Chinese decision-making process. Particular attention is paid to the variability of this interaction over time.

Book China s Tibet Policy

Download or read book China s Tibet Policy written by Dawa Norbu and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 470 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This major study analyses the traditional modes of Sino-Tibetan relations in order to unearth general patterns beyond partisan points of view. It sheds light on contemporary issues in the Sino-Tibetan dialogue, and discerns possible future structures for conflict resolution in occupied Tibet. With its economic reforms, China is changing and will change more in the near future, thereby expanding the scope for freedom and democracy. It is in such a context that several leading Chinese intellectuals have, since the early 1990s, called for a fresh examination of the history of Sino-Tibetan relations in order to determine the actual status of Tibet. This book is a Tibetan's contribution to this great debate. Tibet is often viewed in isolation from other developments in Asia or the West. This book, for the first time, analyses the Tibetan question within the context of international politics, especially the roles of Britain, India, the USA and Russia in paving peaceful ways to conflict resolution in Tibet.

Book The Emergence of Organizations and Markets

Download or read book The Emergence of Organizations and Markets written by John F. Padgett and published by Princeton University Press. This book was released on 2012-10-14 with total page 607 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The social sciences have sophisticated models of choice and equilibrium but little understanding of the emergence of novelty. Where do new alternatives, new organizational forms, and new types of people come from? Combining biochemical insights about the origin of life with innovative and historically oriented social network analyses, John Padgett and Walter Powell develop a theory about the emergence of organizational, market, and biographical novelty from the coevolution of multiple social networks. In the short run, they argue, actors make relations, but in the long run, they argue, actors make actors. Organizational novelty arises from spillover across intertwined networks, which tips reproducing biographical and production flows. This theory is developed through formal deductive modeling and through a wide range of careful and original historical case studies, ranging from early capitalism and state formation, to the transformation of communism, to the emergence of contemporary biotechnology and Silicon Vally. -- from back cover.
