Book China s Outward Foreign Direct Investment Impact on Economic Growth in Developing Countries Empirical Evidence from Ghana

Download or read book China s Outward Foreign Direct Investment Impact on Economic Growth in Developing Countries Empirical Evidence from Ghana written by Stephen Bodybobton Antwi and published by GRIN Verlag. This book was released on 2012-11-28 with total page 38 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Research Paper (undergraduate) from the year 2012 in the subject Economics - Case Scenarios, Xiamen University, language: English, abstract: Foreign direct investment (FDI) is one of the economic growth stimulus due to its associated variables such as capital investment, technical know-how, knowledge transfer and managerial competence required for economic growth. In the last decade, China has emerged on the international financial scene as both financier and investment partner to African economies. Many African economies such as the oil producing and exporting ones have witnessed streams of China’s FDI in their economies whereas non-oil exporting ones have accessed some of China’s FDI in selective sectors. This paper aims at investigating the relationship between China’s FDI and economic growth in Ghana measured by real average annual domestic product (GDP) per capita growth for the period 2001-2010. By using ordinary least squares (OLS) regression model, the result indicates that China’s FDI has negative significant effect on Ghana’s economic growth. However, it exerts different effects on value added in the three economic sectors.

Book Foreign Direct Investment and the Chinese Economy

Download or read book Foreign Direct Investment and the Chinese Economy written by Chunlai Chen and published by . This book was released on 2017 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Foreign Direct Investment and the Chinese Economy provides a comprehensive overview of the impact of foreign direct investment, with extensive empirical evidence, on the Chinese economy over the last three and a half decades. Chunlai Chen presents a compelling and thorough analysis of the leading theoretical explanations of the impact of FDI through a series of rigorous and in-depth empirical investigations on China's regional economic growth, urban-rural income inequality and urbanization development. These case studies show that despite FDI's contribution to economic growth, reduction of income inequality and the rise in urbanization, there is further evidence of uneven regional distribution of FDI inflow. This has negatively affected economic growth, exacerbated income inequality and impeded urbanization of inland China. The book concludes by demonstrating that these findings have important policy implications, not only for China, but also for other developing countries influenced by the implementation of FDI policies. This work of highly focused theoretical analysis is an invaluable resource for scholars and students of economics as well as policy-makers who are interested in the Chinese economy.

Book excerpt: This book focuses on China's fast-growing outward foreign direct investment (ODI) and discusses the underlying causes and profound effects of Chinese enterprises’ “going global.” The book includes eight chapters to analyze the basic characteristics of China's ODI manufacturing enterprises, examine the relationship between enterprise productivity and ODI, investigate the differences between state-owned enterprises and private enterprises in factor market, enterprise ownership and investment, analyze the overall effect of the foreign direct investment (FDI) and thereby the China–US bilateral investment treaties (BIT) on Chinese manufacturing sector in terms of productivity and profitability of the firms. The last chapter provides an overview of China’s three stages of economic reform and opening-up policy in the past four decades, and analyzes the reasons for China’s realization of the splendid economic achievements within such a short time and the main driving forces of China’s incremental international trade in different stages, and discusses the future tasks that would promote the country into a new stage of all-round opening-up. The book aims to illustrate the evolution of China’s opening-up design during the past decades and discuss several most important measures to build an all-around opening-up strategy. Based on these profound analyses, the book provides further policy implication for the sustainable development of China’s opening-up.

Book The Impact of Chinese Foreign Direct Investment on Growth and Economic Performance of Asian Countries

Download or read book The Impact of Chinese Foreign Direct Investment on Growth and Economic Performance of Asian Countries written by John Maish and published by GRIN Verlag. This book was released on 2023-09-12 with total page 23 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Seminar paper from the year 2021 in the subject Economics - International Economic Relations, grade: 3.0, University of California, Irvine, course: Asian Studies, language: English, abstract: What is the impact of Chinese foreign direct investment on the growth and economic performance of Asian countries? In recent decades, China has progressively become one of the nations with the highest foreign direct investment (FDI) levels. The country has attracted more than $1.5 trillion in FDI during the last three decades. Notably, the large volumes of FDI inflows have promoted Chinese economic growth in terms of capital creation, export expansion, increased competition, employment establishment, and technology transfer. There exists a broad range of literature discussing the impact of FDI on economic development. Amongst those studies, it is universally agreed upon that FDI positively influences the economic growth of a country and a region. Still, some researchers have found that FDI leads to negative effects on the economic growth of a host nation. Only a few studies have focused on specific FDI from one nation or the influence on diverse developing countries. As such, my study aims to fill gaps within this research. The proposed study examines the impact of Chinese-specific FDI on the growth and economic performance in six Asian states – Singapore, Japan, South Korea, Malaysia, the Philippines, and Indonesia. The research will use a cross-country log-linear regression, analyzing the data from 2010 to 2019. To my understanding, no study has specifically examined the effect of Chinese FDI on growth and economic performance using a similar time range. The data from the selected six Asian countries will help identify the variations of FDI on the economic development of the entire region. I will contain all relevant data for all nations within the panel data set. By focusing on these countries and the particular time range, I will help improve the existing literature.

Book From World Factory to Global Investor

Download or read book From World Factory to Global Investor written by Xuedong Ding and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2017-11-22 with total page 283 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Chinese outward direct investment (ODI) is growing rapidly in recent years. As an important phenomenon in the global economy, China’s ODI deserves more thorough analysis. This book looks at China’s ODI activities from multi-perspectives. With the rebalancing of China’s own structural growth and China’s shift towards a net capital exporter, her initiatives such as "One Belt One Road (OBOR)" have brought profound implications to the traditional super-sovereign or multilateral financial and investment cooperation mechanism. As her investment destinations and investment methods become more diversified and sophisticated, this book offers unique and refreshing insight into China’s ODI activities. The book covers the whole range of history and policy development of China’s ODI and analyses China’s ODI trends and characteristics in the recent years. It reviews China’s major policy changes after the Third Plenary Session of the 18th Central Committee of the Communist Party and how they may impact China’s ODI strategy and activities. The book addresses potential challenges and risks of rising ODI activities from practitioners’ perspective, and discusses how recipient countries may react and respond to the surge of Chinese capital. The book also offers policy implications and future research agenda in relation to the Chinese investments.

Book Impact of China s Outward Foreign Direct Investment on Its Regional Economic Growth

Download or read book Impact of China s Outward Foreign Direct Investment on Its Regional Economic Growth written by Chunlai Chen and published by . This book was released on 2018 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This paper investigates the impact of China's outward foreign direct investment (OFDI) on its economic growth. By using a provincial-level panel dataset and applying fixed-effects and instrumental variable regression techniques, the study finds that both OFDI from provincial firms and OFDI from state-owned enterprises have a positive impact on China's provincial economic growth. The positive impact of OFDI on provincial economic growth may be the result of reverse knowledge spillovers from OFDI to the home provincial economy through demonstration and imitation, labor movement, and backward and forward industrial linkages, thus increasing the productivity and the efficiency of home firms and promoting the growth of the home economy.

Book Foreign Direct Investment in China

Download or read book Foreign Direct Investment in China written by Wanda Tseng and published by International Monetary Fund. This book was released on 2002-02 with total page 36 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: China's increasing openness to foreign direct investment (FDI) has contributed importantly to its exceptional growth performance. This paper examines China's experience with FDI and identifies some lessons for other countries. Most of the factors explaining China's success have also been important in attracting FDI to other countries: market size, labor costs, quality of infrastructure, and government policies. FDI has contributed to higher investment and productivity growth, and has created jobs and a dynamic export sector. China's success, however, did not come without some pitfalls: an increasingly complex tax incentive system and growing regional income disparities. Accession to the WTO should broaden China's "opening up" policies and continue FDI's contributions to China's economy in the future.
