Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: . . . a very detailed and fascinating description of the development of China s oil and natural gas industry and an assessment of its prospects. . . certainly a recommended read. Anthony D. Owen, Asia Pacific Journal of Economics and Business . . . this book should be a part of the library of anyone interested in the Chinese energy system. New Zealand Journal of Asian Studies This is a timely and important book to help enhance understanding of China s petroleum industry and to assess China s energy policy in a more sensible way. Janet Xuanli Liao, The China Journal This is a timely volume. Understanding the oil and gas industry that China has at home is an essential prerequisite to understanding Chinese foreign policy and the future role of China in world oil and gas markets. It is certain to be a major one. From the preface by Ron Oxburgh, Lord Oxburgh of Liverpool, (Climate Change Capital) China s rapid economic development is having profound implications for energy resources. China has always been exceptionally reliant on its abundant coal, but consumption of oil and gas have grown rapidly since reform began in the 1980s. In spite of vigorous domestic development most recently in the Tarim Basin China is now consuming approximately 8 per cent of the world s oil output but producing only 4 per cent. China s emergence as an energy importer has given rise to concerns that it is a major contributor to recent turmoil in energy markets. This book examines China s record of oil and gas development, its refining capacity, and energy prospects. The authors conclude that there are no fundamental reasons for anxiety about China s demands on the world energy economy, but they emphasize that its energy future will depend critically on a continuation of reform and internationalization. China and the Global Energy Crisis is a concise but detailed study of these issues. This book will appeal not only to readers concerned with China and energy issues, but also to a wider readership seeking to understand China s development and its global meaning.

This book was released on 2015-01-26 with total page 307 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides a comprehensive and unique perspective on China's oil and natural gas industry and a practical roadmap to reforms. The book begins with a thorough examination of the status quo of China's oil and natural gas industry. It explores the evolution, transition, and characteristics of the oil industry of China, and unveils the problems that caused ineffectiveness of the oil and petroleum products market, namely, the dominance of monopoly enterprises, price regulation, and restriction to entry. It provides an insightful analysis on the efficiency losses and welfare losses the monopoly system brings to the society as the current system distorts income distribution, violates the principle of fairness, and stands against the market rules and the legal pillars of the Chinese constitution. This book argues that the monopoly system in the oil industry of China results in a variety of toxic influences and that reforms are needed. It then offers a roadmap to reforms in the oil and petroleum products market in an incremental fashion. The findings and proposals of the Chinese version of this book have proved to be successful, as they led to immediate shifts in the policies of the Chinese authorities. This book provides valuable insights into the urgency involved in carrying out reforms in the oil and petroleum products market in China, with concrete and up-to-date statistics, comprehensive and detailed analyses, and authoritative and authentic sources.

Book China s Superbank

Download or read book China s Superbank written by Henry Sanderson and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2012-10-10 with total page 228 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Inside the engine-room of China's economic growth—the China Development Bank Anyone wanting a primer on the secret of China's economic success need look no further than China Development Bank (CDB)—which has displaced the World Bank as the world's biggest development bank, lending billions to countries around the globe to further Chinese policy goals. In China’s Superbank, Bloomberg authors Michael Forsythe and Henry Sanderson outline how the bank is at the center of China's domestic economic growth and how it is helping to expand China's influence in strategically important overseas markets. 100 percent owned by the Chinese government, the CDB holds the key to understanding the inner workings of China's state-led economic development model, and its most glaring flaws. The bank is at the center of the country's efforts to build a world-class network of highways, railroads, and power grids, pioneering a lending scheme to local governments that threatens to spawn trillions of yuan in bad loans. It is doling out credit lines by the billions to Chinese solar and wind power makers, threatening to bury global competitors with a flood of cheap products. Another $45 billion in credit has been given to the country's two biggest telecom equipment makers who are using the money to win contracts around the globe, helping fulfill the goal of China's leaders for its leading companies to "go global." Bringing the story of China Development Bank to life by crisscrossing China to investigate the quality of its loans, China’s Superbank travels the globe, from Africa, where its China-Africa fund is displacing Western lenders in a battle for influence, to the oil fields of Venezuela. Offers a fascinating insight into the China Development Bank (CDB), the driver of China's rapid economic development Travels the globe to show how the CDB is helping Chinese businesses "go global" Written by two respected reporters at Bloomberg News As China's influence continues to grow around the world, many people are asking how far it will extend. China’s Superbank addresses these vital questions, looking at the institution at the heart of this growth.

Book Great Challenges and Even Greater Opportunities

Download or read book Great Challenges and Even Greater Opportunities written by Liu Yue and published by . This book was released on 2019-09 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: China's breakneck economic development and industrialization of the last three decades have turned the country into a major consumer of energy. In fact, China is currently the world's second biggest energy consumer, and is on course to become the biggest one within a relatively short period of time. This process has taken place in parallel with the rise in energy consumption in the rest of Asia and of the developing world. Just like most countries globally, China's energy supply structure is still dominated by fossil fuels such as coal, oil and natural gas. However, the use of renewable sources of energy is on the increase, as the need to achieve a sustainable mode of development becomes more keenly felt. This book focuses on the current state of China's oil and gas industries, the opportunities they present and the challenges they face. Oil and natural gas remain the two most important and most widely used sources of energy in the world, and in spite of the increasing development of renewable energy, it is unlikely that their status will be challenged any time soon. The oil and gas industries of China, the world's second largest economies, are thus clearly of great importance and interest to the entire world. Due to its high efficiency and the relatively low pollution it creates, oil has been the most popular source of energy globally since it replaced coal in the sixties. China is the second biggest oil consumer in the world behind the U.S., and its consumption is forecasted to continue rising. Although oil remains dominant worldwide, the demand for natural gas is also forecasted to grow steadily in the future, partly as an alternative to oil. There are various reasons for this. For one thing, it has now become a political imperative to reduce carbon emissions, and from this point of view natural gas is much preferable to oil, while being more convenient than renewable sources of energy. Another factor is concern about the inevitable decrease of the oil supply as peak oil is reached. Furthermore, the development of natural gas powered vehicles and of the natural gas chemical industry are also contributing to raise the demand. This trend towards a greater use of natural gas has also concerned China, which is currently the fourth largest consumer of natural gas in the world.
