Book China Business 20 20 Insight

Download or read book China Business 20 20 Insight written by Eng, Joe Y. and published by 1st Book Library. This book was released on 2003 with total page 296 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It is 1934, a Depression year, and ten-year-old Cammie Kirkland is glad that her family owns a cane mill. As long as she can remember, her family has raised acres of sorghum cane on their small North Carolina farm and from it, made molasses to sell in small grocery stores in Winston Salem. This year she and her cousin Ben are (proudly) old enough to be of real help in the family business. The stories cover the entire cane growing and molasses-making season--from spring planting of the tiny seeds and thinning of the young cane sprouts, to the concentrated fall jobs of stripping off the leaves, boiling the juice to make molasses, canning the syrup, and selling the finished product. Accounts of other farm activities, such as the fun of making valentines, burying a treasure trove, helping with the wheat-threshing dinners, and attending 4-H camp are included.

Download or read book China Trade and Power written by Stewart Paterson and published by London School of Economics and Political Science. This book was released on 2018-10-18 with total page 176 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From a Western point of view, the policy of economic engagement with China has failed. A rapid rise in living standards in China has helped legitimize and strengthen the Chinese Communist Party's power. How did Western, market-orientated, property-owning, liberal democracies go from being in a position of complete global hegemony in the early 1990s to the current crisis of confidence and loss of moral foundation? This book tells the story of the most successful trading nation of the early twenty-first century. It looks at how the Communist Party of China has retained and cemented its monopoly on political power since China's accession to the World Trade Organization in December 2001. It is the most extraordinary economic success story of our time and it has reshaped the geopolitics not just of Asia but of the world. As China has come to dominate global manufacturing, its economic power has been translated into political power, and the West now has a global rival that is politically antithetical to liberal values. The supply-side deflation from allowing 750 million low-cost workers into the global trading system combined with the policy of inflation targeting by Western central banks has led to falling real incomes for many in the West and rising asset prices that have benefited the few. Worse still, China's mercantilist model is now held up as a viable economic alternative. To have a fighting chance of protecting the freedoms of liberal democracies, it is of the utmost importance that we understand how the policy of indulgent engagement with China has affected Western society in recent years. Only then can the global trading system be reoriented for the mutual benefit of all nations.

Book excerpt: Worldwide business leaders who try to comprehend China’s unavoidable impact on their livelihoods often ignore the most important voices: those of expatriate managers with years of experience in the country. Based on interviews with China-based corporate executives over five years, Dragon Suit brings to life the country’s swarming cities, recent economic tsunami, unstoppable middle class, endemic pollution, intermittent internet, confusing culture, and endless opportunities. This book is a rare insight into the way global firms select, relocate, manage, motivate, and reward top managers in the world’s most populous market. CEOs, C-suite executives, and senior managers recall their careers since China’s early 2000s reform period until a notable 2014 policy paper declared “the end of a golden age for foreign business in China”, and beyond to the present day. Dragon Suit addresses crucial questions for international business: How did China become a key market for global firms? Why are most foreign managers unprepared for its challenges? Why did the country’s near-million foreigners begin to leave in the mid-2010s, and who will replace them? Most importantly, how can managers, entrepreneurs, experts, and students prepare for an increasingly China-facing future in business?

It also includes more personal experiences concerning the many challenges of expatriate-living in China , some of whom have started their own businesses. The book provides concise but insightful analysis to help readers to get the most from the case studies. As a result, this book will help you get better prepared to face the varied challenges you will find in China. These cases complement the material presented in a previous work, China CEO: Voices of Experience from 20 International Business Leaders, also published by John Wiley & Sons.

Lee, the founding father of modern Singapore and its prime minister from 1959 to 1990, has honed his wisdom during more than fifty years on the world stage. Almost single-handedly responsible for transforming Singapore into a Western-style economic success, he offers a unique perspective on the geopolitics of East and West. American presidents from Richard Nixon to Barack Obama have welcomed him to the White House; British prime ministers from Margaret Thatcher to Tony Blair have recognized his wisdom; and business leaders from Rupert Murdoch to Rex Tillerson, CEO of Exxon Mobil, have praised his accomplishments. This book gathers key insights from interviews, speeches, and Lee’s voluminous published writings and presents them in an engaging question and answer format. Lee offers his assessment of China’s future, asserting, among other things, that “China will want to share this century as co-equals with the U.S.” He affirms the United States’ position as the world’s sole superpower but expresses dismay at the vagaries of its political system. He offers strategic advice for dealing with China and goes on to discuss India’s future, Islamic terrorism, economic growth, geopolitics and globalization, and democracy. Lee does not pull his punches, offering his unvarnished opinions on multiculturalism, the welfare state, education, and the free market. This little book belongs on the reading list of every world leader.

Book The China US Trade War and South Asian Economies

Download or read book The China US Trade War and South Asian Economies written by Rahul Nath Choudhury and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2021-03-07 with total page 239 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The USA and China, the world’s largest economic powers, have been engaging in trade war since January 2018. The impact of this trade war is felt not only by US and China but also by other economies who have economic ties with them. This book provides insights into damages caused by this trade war. The first section of the book looks at the impact of the trade war on the global economy. It goes deeper to examine the trade war impact on the South Asian region. It is well-known that any imposition of new tariffs or an increase in existing tariffs would make imports more costly and render the exported goods less competitive. Yet, the book posits that the trade war has provided a window of opportunity to other countries not caught in it. The South Asian region, with countries like Bangladesh, India and Sri Lanka, has actually reaped benefits from the widening trade dispute between the world’s two biggest economies. This book will be a useful reference to help policymakers to undertake informed decisions and initiate programs to minimise the trade war impact.
