Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Not only is the Yangtze river delta emerging as China's most powerful economic region, but it has been blessed by Beijing's central government to lead China to world economic supremacy. In Business Opportunities in the Yangtze River Delta, China, the sixth volume in the Nanyang Business Report Series, the editors profile the awesome economic potential of this region including Nanjing, Suzhou and Shanghai as the "head" of an enormous "dragon" which extends throughout the Yangtze river hinterland. Like its companion volume which deals with Sichuan Province, the contents are compiled from external sources and voluminous Chinese manuscripts, government documents, seminars and personal interviews. This unique book presents a comprehensive analysis of the locational advantages of Shanghai, Suzhou and Nanjing; special economic zones including Pudong New Area and the China-Singapore Suzhou Industrial Park; the dynamic real estate, tourism and banking sectors in the region; and the economic relevance of town and village enterprises, and specific examples of the behemoth state-owned enterprises and joint venture businesses. Book excerpt: How does a person coordinate the proper paperwork, travel time, cultural differences, language barriers, and political land mines that are inherent in doing business overseas? In "The American Entrepreneur in Asia: A Personal Journey of Global Proportions," author Irl Davis shares the intricate details of international business that he learned on his own personal journey. Some may be on a simple quest for information-finding resources, looking up Web sites, or subscribing to a magazine that caters to global entrepreneurs. Others may embark on an actual physical journey-to China, Taiwan, or one of the other countries detailed by Davis. Some may even be on a hypothetical journey, seeking answers to the 'what if" questions and 'maybe this" possibilities that need to be resolved before conducting business internationally. If you can answer yes to one or all of the following questions, then "The American Entrepreneur in Asia" has the information you need for successful international expansion: Are you planning to expand internationally? Do you feel that to remain competitive in today's marketplace you must transfer your manufacturing operations to a foreign country? Are you considering expanding your product lines to some of the fastest growing economies in the world?

Book Fast Boat to China

Download or read book Fast Boat to China written by Andrew Ross and published by Vintage. This book was released on 2006-04-04 with total page 320 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Most Americans today are aware that jobs are being outsourced to China, India, and other nations at an alarming rate. From factory jobs to white-collar, high-tech positions, the exporting of labor is one of the most controversial issues in America.Yet few people know much about the other end — about the people who are actually working these jobs and how their own lives have been throw into tumult by these new economic forces. Andrew Ross spent a year in China, interviewing local employees and their managers in Taiwan, Shanghai, and the far western provinces. In this engaging and informative book, he shows how the Chinese workforce has inherited many of the same worries as American workers, such as job instability, long hours, and awareness of their own expendability. He reports on the daily reality of corporate free trade and explores the growing competition between China and India. This is an eye-opening exploration of an unseen side of our globalized world.

Book China s International Investment Strategy

Download or read book China s International Investment Strategy written by Julien Chaisse and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2019-02-07 with total page 576 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Since China adopted its 'open door' policy in 1978, which altered its development strategy from self-sufficiency to active participation in the world market, its goal has remained unchanged: to assist the readjustment of China's economy, to coordinate its modernization programs, and to improve its quality of life. With the 1997 launch of the 'Going Global' policy, an outward focus regarding foreign investment was added, to circumvent trade barriers and improve the competitiveness of Chinese firms. In order to accommodate inward and outward investment, China's participation in the international investment regime has underpinned its efforts to join multilateral investment-related legal instruments and conclude international investment agreements. This collection, compiled by award-winning scholar Professor Julien Chaisse, explores the three distinct tracks of China's investment policy and strategy: bilateral agreements including those with the US and the EU; regional agreements including the Free Trade Area of the Asia Pacific; and global initiatives, spear-headed by China's presidency of the G20 and its 'Belt and Road initiative'. The book's overarching topic is whether these three tracks compete with each other, or whether they complement one another - a question of profound importance for the country's political and economic future and world investment governance.
