Book excerpt: On 2nd June 2009, two men knocked on our door, bringing with them the news that our nineteen-year-old son, Cyrus, had been killed that morning by an IED while serving with 2 Rifles in Afghanistan. Our family as we knew it was destroyed in an instant. I had three sons, a job as a manager in a day centre for people with acquired brain injuries – and suddenly this had changed for ever. People ask me how I've coped, and my answer is that I have written it all down – partly for fear of losing those memories too, and also to try to make some sense of what has happened. This process of madness continues to be part of what has become my new ‘normal'. I have a new life now, which I’m trying desperately to come to terms with – and follow Cyrus’s words from his last letter to us.

Book 30 Chin Ups in 30 Days

Download or read book 30 Chin Ups in 30 Days written by Grant Michaels and published by Nordic Standard Publishing. This book was released on 2012-11-14 with total page 30 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: If you are seeking a way to build your strength and get a large, defined upper back and arms in the process, then look no further. Grant Michaels's chin-up workout book has all of your answers. He understands the importance of the chin-up in any workout routine. If you have been searching for a way to begin resistance training, then this step by step guide is definitely what you want. This one exercise provides proven results for those seeking a perfect physique. The problem is that far too often people will give up on chin-ups because of their difficulty. This book seeks to correct that problem with a basic break down that will help you build up to the ultimate goal and move beyond it. Can This Book Really Get Me to 30 Chin-Ups? Chin-ups are definitely not one of the easier exercises, and if you go into it blind, it can quickly become discouraging. This is what Michaels shows you how to overcome with his book. Instead of demanding 30 chin-ups out of you on the first day, he breaks the process up into three steps. This version of chin-up training will first help to build your arm strength and teach you how to hold your body throughout the exercise. Second, he will start to focus on your endurance so that you can build up to performing 30 chin-ups in one set. These two steps are initially performed separately, but as you progress with each step, you will eventually bring them together for the third step. This will build up your repetitions until you are finally completing 1 set of 30 reps, and hopefully you will have the confidence to now increase that number at a healthy pace. Why Master the Chin-Up? There is usually always an advantage to your body, health and physique to learn a new exercise. Chin-ups are similar to pull-ups; although, they make a much larger contribution to your upper back. If you've ever seen a gymnast's back you know the results achievable by including chin-ups in a workout two to three times a week. Chin-ups will make an impact on your. . . Biceps: The muscles located on the back of your upper arms. Latissimus Dorsi: Large, flat muscles on the posterior of the back. These muscles are responsible for much of the shoulder movement Abdominals: Performing chin-ups means keeping your body held still and aligned. This control makes a huge impact on your abs.

Book Chin Up Girls

  • Publisher : John Murray
  • Release : 2006
  • ISBN : 9780719563010
  • Pages : 0 pages

Download or read book Chin Up Girls written by Georgia Powell and published by John Murray. This book was released on 2006 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From the self-styled 'Queen of Soho' who sued BA, claiming to have been bitten on the bottom by a flea, to the butcher's daughter from Oldham who performed topless as 'the world's strongest woman' before becoming becoming the mistress of a peer whom she met while living in a Pyrennean mountain hut, this is a celebration of the women who refused to fulfil society's expectations. Their company includes the woman who survived four months adrift in a dinghy in the Pacific and the woman who played professional polo disguised as a man for fifteen years, as well as the inimitable Dame Barbara Cartland and Fanny Cradock. And there are over one hundred more. This is the first time that the Daily Telegraph has dedicated a book to women's stories; very few of the women featured were 'celebrities', yet their stories represent a century of progress and change, capturing the spirit of those who came of age between Emancipation and the Equal Opportunities Act, whether high life or low life, pioneers or bluestockings. Taking its title from the inspiring lines of a matron whose nurses faced a WWII firing squad, this is a fascinating portrayal of unforgettable and extraordinary characters united by their refusal to accept society's constraints.

Book Gorilla Grip

    Book Details:
  • Author : Rahul Mookerjee
  • Publisher : 0 Excuses Fitness
  • Release : 2017-11-08
  • ISBN :
  • Pages : 42 pages

Download or read book Gorilla Grip written by Rahul Mookerjee and published by 0 Excuses Fitness. This book was released on 2017-11-08 with total page 42 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Do you secretly wish you got comments like the below most of the time - "You've got unnatural pulling power! It has to be something to do with the exercises you do!" (from folks that outweigh me by about a 1000 pounds - well - not really - but you get the drift - and folks from various disciplines of life, including, but not limited to those from the elite forces, boxers, weightlifters and the like). "You need to take it easy, man!" (when shaking hands with folks) "Man - you're a skinny dude - and yet you've got this amazing grip strength, not to mention the fact you're in shape". Farmers, wrestlers, strongmen (note – I mean STRONG men, not the bloated “muscle boys” you see preening “their stuff” in the gyms), tennis players, elite forces all over the world, and martial artists. What do the following groups of people have in common, other than the fact they perform different types of physical activity on a regular and daily basis? Some may have “bulging muscles”, and some may not. Some may be “ripped to shreds” (UGH, I think I’m going to rip the next book apart that spouts that sort of nonsense), and others might be solidly built. Some might even need to lose a bit of weight, while others might be so skinny you could hang a pair of freshly pressed trousers on them. So, and again, what do these people all have in common? Strength and stamina, I hear some of you say. Well, good answer - - but what else? A STRONG GRIP. A farmer, for instance, might not have archetypical “show” muscles, but grip his hand at the end of a long, hard day (his, spent working on the farm), and you’ll quickly experience the closest thing you can to an actual gorilla’s grip. A wrestler’s forearm might not look “pretty”, and neither might his calloused and bandaged hands, but those very mitts can take the typical bodybuilder’s arm in a vice like grip that the bodybuilder would be hard pressed to even TRY and escape from, and do things with it that would have the average “pretezel”blushing with shame (that old line, “twist you into a pretezel”!). A tennis player, martial artist, a boxer, a gymnast – you name it, and the list goes on and on – all people that perform physical activity on a daily basis, different sorts, but they have all that ONE thing in common i.e. a strong, bone crushing, vice like grip. And this, my friend, is one of the most important parts of a human being’s overall physical development. The forearms, fingers and wrist are what make up the “gripping muscles”, and you use these in virtually ALL situations in daily life, from carrying groceries up the stairs to lugging heavy furniture around. To put it another way, showy biceps might help you get the lady, for instance, but couple those with weak forearms, and you’ll never be able to carry her up that flight of stairs to your apartment. You might be able to curl impressive poundages in the gym using straps and other aids, but when it comes to doing pull-ups on a thick bar, a weak grip is what will let you down the most. On the other hand, a strong grip is an advantage in just about every situation. The PLETHORA of exercises that I give you in 0 Excuses Fitness do a great job of building a vice like, bone crushing grip, and truth be told that's all you need if you do 'em right - and yet - there are those that want MORE. Well, I wrote "Gorilla Grip" for those of you that "want more". And here it is. 16 exercises that should be done IN ADDITION to or in CONJUNCTION with (NOT "in place of!") the exercises I mention in 0 Excuses Fitness. Enjoy!
