Download or read book International Cell Biology 1980 1981 written by H.G. Schweiger and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 1046 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In September, 1976, the International Federation for Cell Biology held its first congress in Boston. On this occasion Berlin was chosen as the site for the next congress. This meant an acknowledgement and at the same time a heavy burden for the still young European Cell Biology Organization, which repre sents a junction of European societies and groups for cell biology. In practical terms, this meant that the members of the young and, compared to the Ame rican Society for Cell Biology, small German Society for Cell Biology had to do a good deal of the organizing of the Cell Biology Congress. This is an op portunity for me, as Chairman of the Organizing Committee, and also on be half of the German Society for Cell Biology, to express my gratitude to all those who have actively participated in the preparations for this Cell Biology Congress. The success of the Congress in Berlin was to a significant extent due to their work. In particular, I would like to especially thank the Secretary General ofECBO Werner Franke, Heidelberg, as well as the Chairman of the Local Organizing Committee, Peter Giesbrecht, Berlin, for the excellent job they did. The Congress in Berlin proved to be significantly larger than that in Boston in 1976. The number of abstracts increased from 1200 to more than 1800. They have been published in the European Journal of Cell Biology. In a simi lar way the number of symposia and workshops expanded.
Download or read book The biochemistry of the Nucleic Acids written by J.N. Davidson and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2012-12-02 with total page 415 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Biochemistry of the Nucleic Acids provides an elementary outline of the main biochemical features of nucleic acids and nucleoproteins. The book describes the occurrence and biological functions of nucleic acids, their chemical constituents, and catabolism. This text is organized into 14 chapters and begins with a historical overview, from the discovery of the nucleic acids to their isolation and characterization. The discussion then shifts to bacterial transforming factors and transduction phenomena, along with the genetic function and metabolic stability of DNA, the chemical composition of the cell nucleus, and the Feulgen nucleal reaction. The reader is methodically introduced to the structure and biosynthesis of RNA and DNA; nucleic acids found in viruses; and biosynthesis of mononucleotides. An account of nucleases and related enzymes is also given. A chapter on the precise mechanism by which nucleic acids are broken down in the cell concludes the book. This book is intended for students of biochemistry, chemists, and biologists.
Download or read book Combustion Calorimetry written by Stig Sunner and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2016-06-03 with total page 455 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Experimental Chemical Thermodynamics, Volume 1: Combustion Calorimetry covers the advances in calorimetric study of combustion, with particular emphasis on the accuracy of the method. This book is composed of 18 chapters, and begins with a presentation of the units and physical constants with the basic units of measurements. The succeeding chapters deal with basic principles of combustion calorimetry, emphasizing the underlying basic principles of measurement. These topics are followed by discussions on calibration of combustion calorimeters, test and auxiliary substances in combustion calorimetry, strategies in the calculation of standard-state energies of combustion from the experimentally determined quantities, and assignment of uncertainties. The final chapter considers the history of combustion calorimetry. This book will prove useful to combustion chemists and engineers, as well as researchers in the allied fields.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume contains the Proceedings of the Meeting "Neuronal plasticity and gangliosides" which was held at Mantova, Italy, on May 29-31, 1985, as a satellite to the Tenth Meeting of the International Society for Neurochemistry, (Riva del Garda, Italy, May 19-24,1985). The Symposium took place in the "Teatro Bibiena", one of the oldest and most beautiful theatres in Italy, known for having been the place for some of the very first performances of W .A. Mozart. The number of registered participants in the Meeting was about 180 including 40 accor:Qpanying persons. The persons invited as Speakers or Chairmen of Colloquia and Workshops were 48. Eighteen countries were represented with the largest contingent coming from Italy, followed by Federal Republic of Germany, The United States, France and Great Britain. The Meeting was based on Colloquia, Workshops, Round Tables and Poster Sessions, with a total of 42 Lectures and 32 Poster presentations.
Download or read book Summary of International Energy Research and Development Activities 1974 1976 written by Sam Stuart and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2013-10-22 with total page 685 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Summary of International Energy Research and Development Activities 1974–1976 is a directory of energy research and development projects conducted in various countries such as Canada, Italy, Germany, France, Sweden, and the United Kingdom between 1974 and 1976. A limited number of projects sponsored by international organizations such as the International Atomic Energy Agency are also included. This directory consists of nine chapters and opens with a section on organic sources of energy such as coal, oil and gas, peat, hydrocarbons, and non-fossil organic sources. The next sections focus on thermonuclear energy and plasma physics; fission sources and energy production; geophysical energy sources; conversion technology; and environmental aspects of energy conversion and use. Energy transport, transmission, utilization, and conservation are also covered. The final chapter deals with energy systems and other energy-related research on subjects ranging from car sharing and urban passenger transport to nuclear power plants, energy supply and demand models, and high-power molecular lasers. This monograph will be a valuable resource of information for those involved in energy research and development.
