DCF understands abuse or neglect is not limited to certain hours of the day. DCF believes receiving and reviewing reports as quickly as possible best serves children and families. Therefore, DCF operates the KPRC 24/7, including during holidays, snow days, etc. The KPRC knows that when people call, they want to report as soon as possible, and to meet Kansans’ needs, the KPRC optimizes staffing to best cover peak reporting hours. At times, the KPRC receives emergency calls involving abuse occurring at the time of the call. The KPRC will advise the reporter to call 911, but also attempt to obtain sufficient information to contact law enforcement.
