Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Daughter of infamous Kate Bowan, Ruth Wolfe is a confident, young archaeologist trying to prove herself in a male-dominated career in the 1970s. But she doesn't let the South American Dirty War, a crumbling Argentinean government, or even a distracting Viking-esque photojournalist get in her way of revealing the past's truths. Even if the photojournalist becomes more help than hindrance, more friend than enemy in a dangerous world of government conspiracies, disappearing rebels and gold-hungry thieves. Jack Baumann is an award-winning photojournalist, but his interest in Ruth has nothing to do with writing and everything to do with a dark agenda he's using her to achieve. Jack is riddled with secrets and a haunting past but he finds himself forgetting his ultimate goal in the face of Ruth's dedication and grace. Ruth and Jack form a partnership that leads them through the mountains of Argentina to post-war Europe. Will being watched over by her mother's Egyptian god cause them to succeed or to fail?

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The stories in Out of Chaos forms a profound testament to lost and found lives that are translated into compelling reading. The collection illuminates brief or elongated moments, fragments of memory and experience, what the great Holocaust writer Ida Fink called “a scrap of time.” In all, the anthology expresses survivors’ memories and reactions to a wide range of experiences as they survived in so many European settings, from Holland, Belgium, Italy, Germany, Greece, Yugoslavia, Poland, and France. The writers recall being on the run between different countries, escaping over mountains, hiding and even sometimes forgetting their Jewish identities in convents and rescuers’ homes and hovels, basements and attics. Some were left on their own; others found themselves embroiled in rescuer family conflicts. Some writers chose to write story clusters, each one capturing a moment or incident and often disconnected by memory or temporal and spatial divides.

Book Children Of The Dust

Book excerpt: A powerful post-nuclear holocaust novel described by the author as, 'my cry against the monstrous weapons men have made'. Everyone thought, when the alarm bell rang, that it was just another fire practice. But the first bombs had fallen on Hamburg and Leningrad, the headmaster said, and a full-scale nuclear attack was imminent . . . It's a real-life nightmare. Sarah and her family have to stay cooped up in the tightly-sealed kitchen for days on end, dreading the inevitable radioactive fall-out and the subsequent slow, torturous death, which seems almost preferable to surviving in a grey, dead world, choked by dust. But then, from out of the dust and the ruins and the desolation, comes new life, a new future, and a whole brave new world...

Book excerpt: From award-winning author Deborah Heiligman comes Torpedoed, a true account of the attack and sinking of the passenger ship SS City of Benares, which was evacuating children from England during WWII. Amid the constant rain of German bombs and the escalating violence of World War II, British parents by the thousands chose to send their children out of the country: the wealthy, independently; the poor, through a government relocation program called CORB. In September 1940, passenger liner SS City of Benares set sail for Canada with one hundred children on board. When the war ships escorting the Benares departed, a German submarine torpedoed what became known as the Children's Ship. Out of tragedy, ordinary people became heroes. This is their story. Book excerpt: 'My most anticipated book of the year' - Peter F. Hamilton, Britain's no.1 science fiction writer Children of Ruin follows Adrian Tchaikovsky's extraordinary Children of Time, winner of the Arthur C. Clarke award. It is set in the same universe, with new characters and a thrilling narrative. It has been waiting through the ages. Now it's time . . . Thousands of years ago, Earth’s terraforming program took to the stars. On the world they called Nod, scientists discovered alien life – but it was their mission to overwrite it with the memory of Earth. Then humanity’s great empire fell, and the program’s decisions were lost to time. Aeons later, humanity and its new spider allies detected fragmentary radio signals between the stars. They dispatched an exploration vessel, hoping to find cousins from old Earth. But those ancient terraformers woke something on Nod better left undisturbed. And it’s been waiting for them. 'Books like this are why we read science fiction' - Ian McDonald, author of the Luna series All underpinned by great ideas. And it is crisply modern - but with the sensibility of classic science fiction' Stephen Baxter, author of the Long Earth series (with Terry Pratchett)

Book excerpt: John C. Wright burst onto the SF scene with the Golden Age trilogy. His next project was the ambitious fantasy sequence, The Last Guardians of Everness. Wright's new fantasy is a tale about five orphans raised in a strict British boarding school who begin to discover that they may not be human beings. The students at the school do not age, while the world around them does. The children begin to make sinister discoveries about themselves. Amelia is apparently a fourth-dimensional being; Victor is a synthetic man who can control the molecular arrangement of matter around him; Vanity can find secret passageways through solid walls where none had previously been; Colin is a psychic; Quentin is a warlock. Each power comes from a different paradigm or view of the inexplicable universe: and they should not be able to co-exist under the same laws of nature. Why is it that they can? The orphans have been kidnapped from their true parents, robbed of their powers, and raised in ignorance by super-beings no more human than they are: pagan gods or fairy-queens, Cyclopes, sea-monsters, witches, or things even stranger than this. The children must experiment with, and learn to control, their strange abilities in order to escape their captors. When Aislynn's mother dies under suspicious conditions, her father doubles his restrictions. But all his precautions can't stop the boy with glowing green eyes from finding Aislynn. Book Children in War

  • Author : Elon Perry
  • Publisher : Pen and Sword Military
  • Release : 2024-06-30
  • ISBN : 103610852X
  • Pages : 282 pages

Download or read book Children in War written by Elon Perry and published by Pen and Sword Military. This book was released on 2024-06-30 with total page 282 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Author Elon Perry uniquely combines the narrative of a challenging childhood amidst wartime struggles with the gripping tale of military service in a commando unit. The book differs from other books on the subject because the plot revolves around two themes: a difficult and impoverished childhood during times of war, and military service in a commando unit, carried out with the aim of exacting revenge on the enemy and featuring vivid and detailed descriptions of battles. In the book, real stories and events are infused, including daring operations from the battlefield. Some of these accounts have never before been published, and only today, 40 years after the events, has the Israeli censorship allowed them to be shared. This story can be an inspiration to people who find themselves in desperate situations. They can learn how against all odds and in any given situation one can survive difficulties, as long as one has the will, perseverance, and belief that anything is possible.

Book What The Prophet Ether Couldn t Tell Us Book 2 of 3

Download or read book What The Prophet Ether Couldn t Tell Us Book 2 of 3 written by Jim Hendleman and published by Covenant Books, Inc.. This book was released on 2021-04-13 with total page 264 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: BACK COVER The sequel to the Jaredite's Civilization (What the Prophet Ether couldn't Tell Us) is finally out. Book III to shortly follow. Book II tells of the life and times of the Jaredites, the greatest civilization to have ever lived on Planet Earth. It details their earliest beginnings, and enumerates some of their many achievements and accomplishments. It is first mentioned within the Book of Mormon, in Ether 1:42-44. Ether was later directed by God to remove everything about them save for their earliest beginnings at the Tower of Babel, in Iraq, and a few brief tales of their spiritual trials and wars, up to their final Civil War. Mainstream Archaeology refuses to address this civilization because it would reveal Archaeology's canards about evolution and their false narrative about the Origin of Man. The Jaredites settled and colonized South and North America, Lemuria, Antarctica, The British Isles and most of western Europe, plus the lands of China and India. For nearly 2,530-years, they maintained a world-wide civilization. My research has uncovered many details of Jaredite life and their physical characteristics that the prophet Ether was not allowed to tell us. They built all of Egypt. Their Hindu colony fought at least two internal nuclear wars. They colonized throughout our entire Solar System; most moons and all the planets have their cities, mainly covered by 7-mile high glass domes, except Jupiter and Saturn. These two planets each have possible Star War-size "moons" that could be artificial space stations. Mars used to be a moon to its now exploded primary, which is now the Asteroid Belt. Their Martian cities are so immense that New York City and Shanghai combined wouldn't be considered a nickel in a handful of change in comparison to them. Jaredite leftovers are all over Earth if one knows when to look for them. Book III details a few of their many wars, as well as their final Civil War, the first year or two which were nuclear. Through their longevity, they were able to develop their physics to the point to where they could control the weather, as well as to weaponize its component parts. And their final, long prophesied death.
