Download or read book Child Abuse and Neglect written by Cynthia Crosson-Tower and published by National Education Association. This book was released on 1984 with total page 122 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Educators have a duty to become involved in detecting and reporting abuse and neglect for at least three reasons. First, the trauma created by abuse and neglect is as much a detriment to learning as is a perceptual or physical difficulty. Second, teachers' roles place them in close contact with the child on a daily basis. And third, in all states, teachers are mandated by law to report child abuse and can be held liable for failure to do so. This book discusses the teacher's role in recognizing and reporting child abuse or neglect in nine chapters: (1) "How Do You Recognize Abuse and Neglect?" (2) "Whom Do You Tell?--The Reporting Process"; (3) "If You Suspect Child Abuse, How Can You Validate Your Suspicion?" (4) "Once You Report, What Happens Then?" (5) "What If You Have to Go to Court?" (6) "What Can You Do for the Child, Beyond Reporting?" (7) "Who Is the Child's Family?" (8) "How Can You Help the Child by Helping the Family?" and (9) "What Can You Do about Prevention?" Also included is a 41-item bibliography, eight appendices which include sources of further information and reporting procedure, and a list of state review board members. (JMK)

Book excerpt: "In this expose of institutional abuse, Irwin Hyman and Pamela Snook uncover officially authorized violence that far exceeds the number of offenses committed by students. These little researched, frequently ignored practices, the authors passionately argue, are an insidious danger to students' mental health and undermine and distort their understanding and belief in constitutional rights. Parents will learn how to distinguish between normal rules for safety and a violation of students' rights. The authors provide parents with a checklist - including how to document abuse, determine responsibility, file charges, instigate litigation, generate publicity when necessary - and step-by-step strategies for dealing with educational and legal issues, including a broad agenda for legislative and public advocacy."--Jacket.

Book excerpt: Sending your children to public school is equivalent to the worst form of child abuse; we disable our children by enabling them, allowing them to run amok through the hallways of our schools all in the name of self-esteem. Our children are doomed to a mediocre existence. The Worst Case of Child Abuse in American History: Your Public Schoolsis a book that reveals what is really taking place in our classrooms today, and academics is the last thing on the to-do list. According to the experts, "reading" is less relevant than the child's social calendar and could initiate anarchy in America. This book specifies these so-called experts' names, it is blunt and to the point.Years ago America's education leaders had an agenda for our education system, and they were warned by numerous knowledgeable specialists on the dangers of that agenda. Utilizing the research and facts of those specialists and my twenty-two years of experience teaching in the public school classroom, I expose the truth of why America's education system is decomposing at such an alarming rate.

Download or read book Save Them All written by Wendy Green and published by Christian Faith Publishing, Inc.. This book was released on 2019-09-23 with total page 226 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Save Them All contains true and shocking stories of underprivileged and troubled kids living in the beautiful Bay Area of Northern California. The book is written with empathy, irony, and a touch of comedy and also gives deep insight into the lives of everyday kids, on political issues, the struggles facing our public school teachers, and the societal issues that bring on many of these problems. Many of the stories contain disturbing accounts of the issues facing the everyday life of the "at-risk" students and the struggles of a rookie teacher contending with the conflict between her desire to contribute and the realities of society's failures. Topics are suicide, gangs, drug abuse, murder, and child abuse and neglect. The book is not a condemnation of our public schools but is meant to be an insight into the realities politicians and society refuse to address. It is a must-read if you care about kids, schools, the politics of education, and how to make a difference. Save Them All will shock and inspire, educate and entertain, create laughter and tears, and possibly influence the reader to implement change.
