Book Nostalgic Cooks

Download or read book Nostalgic Cooks written by and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2006-01-01 with total page 325 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Why is it that French chefs tend to develop a syndrome of professional nostalgia? Educated to work in the most prestigious restaurants, they soon discover another reality in common foodservices and are viewed as having made an egotistical professional choice. Regardless of the improvement in their working conditions, their identity is distorted. This book describes foodservices as a whole, including international and inter-industry comparisons in the sociological field of gastronomical professionals, in an attempt to analyze their identities in different stages and diversities.

Book The Status of the Teaching Profession

Download or read book The Status of the Teaching Profession written by Xavier Dumay and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2022-10-01 with total page 186 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Focusing on the historical development of the teaching profession, this book explores how the relationship between education and the formation of modern nation states has influenced both the status of the profession as a whole and the differential status accorded to different kinds of teachers within it. Addressing different national and international contexts with seven distinct case studies, the book provides a comparative analysis of the long-term trajectories that illuminate the nature of teaching as a public profession, and demonstrates the variety of forms that labour markets have taken in different contexts. Offering new and up-to-date international analysis at a critical time for the field of teacher research, when recruitment into the profession and retention are major challenges, the volume will be of interest to scholars, researchers and doctoral students engaged in teacher research and comparative and international education more broadly. Those involved with education policy and politics will also benefit from reading this volume.

This book was released on 1998 with total page 132 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This document, which includes German, English, and French translations of all text, outlines the 1998 work program of the European Centre for the Development of Vocational Training (CEDEFOP). The document begins with an executive summary and a brief foreword. Presented next is an overview of how CEDEFOP will serve as an interface between research, policy, and practice by analyzing, exploiting, and disseminating the results of research conducted by the European Union's member states. The next three sections detail the activities planned to advance the three themes of CEDEFOP's 1998 work program. The following are among the objectives and activities discussed: developing knowledge and expertise (projects promoting competencies and lifelong learning, monitoring developments in the EU's member states, and serving European mobility and exchanges); stimulating debate among vocational education policymakers, researchers, and training practitioners (study visits program, Agora Thessaloniki, cooperative policy development, support for research cooperation); and keeping people informed about developments in vocational education through information services and dissemination activities (publications, library and documentation services, CEDEFOP's "electronic training village," other promotional activities). Appended are the following: a list of CEDEFOP's medium-term priorities (1997-2000), a budget outline, a list of planned publications, a list of principal meetings planned, and an organization chart. Book Becoming a Plurilingual Child

Download or read book Becoming a Plurilingual Child written by Roberto Gómez Fernández and published by Bubok. This book was released on 2013-05-20 with total page 182 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The present research aims at illustrating the newcomer’s process of becoming an ‘emergent plurilingual’ member of a heterogeneous and multilingual primary school classroom in Luxembourg. It is a 8 month case study about a child belonging to one of the ethnic and linguistic communities most affected by school failure in Luxembourg, namely ‘Romanophones’ or romance-language speaking students. The country of Luxembourg has three official languages and a great diversity, both factors demanding a unique educational system. The Luxembourgish educational system is then confronted with the common practice of trilingualism and a high proportion of foreigners in its classrooms. A detailed analysis of the actors in contact with this child, including the different teachers, parents, and peers, allows for an observation of which practices are legitimated and which ones are marginalized. It also provides valuable insights on how such practices emerge and how the newcomer’s identity evolves within the class group.
