Book The Canonical Path of Opus Dei

Download or read book The Canonical Path of Opus Dei written by Amadeo de Fuenmayor and published by . This book was released on 1994 with total page 670 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "This book tells the complete history of how the Prelature of Opus Dei developed within the legal structure of the Catholic Church. What makes this history compelling is that the unique characteristics of Opus Dei's spirit did not fit into any existing framework in Church law when Opus Dei was founded in 1928 by Msgr. Josemaria Escriva, who was beatified by Pope John Paul II in 1992, nearly 17 years after his death. Msgr. Escriva sought to create a framework which harmonized the spirit of Opus Dei with the legal norms of the Church. The authors show how that quest was carried out over 54 years, from its earliest years in Madrid, approvals in various dioceses and by the Holy See, and culminating in the creation of Opus Dei as a personal prelature." /

  • Pages : 433 pages

Download or read book Sacred Companies written by Nicholas Jay Demerath and published by Oxford University Press, USA. This book was released on 1998 with total page 433 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Religion is intrinsically social, and hence irretrievably organizational, although organization is often seen as the darker side of the religious experience--power, routinization, and bureaucracy. Religion and secular organizations have long received separate scholarly scrutiny, but until now their confluence has been little considered. This interdisciplinary collection of mostly unpublished papers is the first volume to remedy the deficit. The project grew out of a three-year inquiry into religious institutions undertaken by Yale University's Program on Non-Profit Organizations and sponsored by the Lilly Endowment. The scholars who took part in this effort weree challenged to apply new perspectives to the study of religious organizations, especially that strand of contemporary secular organizational theory known as "New Institutionalism." The result was this groundbreaking volume, which includes papers on various aspects of such topics as the historical sources and patterns of U.S. religious organizations, contemporary patterns of denominational authority, the congregation as an organization, and the interface between religious and secular institutions and movements. The contributors include an interdisciplinary mix of scholars from economics, history, law, social administration, and sociology.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Philip Rieff has become out most learned and provocative critic of psychoanalytic thinking and of the compelling mind and character of its first proponent. Rieff's Freud: The Mind of the Moralist remains the sharpest exegesis yet to be done on the moral and intellectual implications of Freud's work. It was a critical masterpiece, worthy of the man who inspired it; and it is now followed by a work that suffers not at all in comparison. No review can do justice to the richness of The Triumph of the Therapeutic."—Robert Coles, New York Times Book Review "A triumphantly successful exploration of certain key themes in cultural life. Rieff's incidental remarks are not only illuminating in themselves; they suggest whole new areas of inquiry."—Alasdair MacIntyre, Guardian
