Book Chicken Creek Large Woody Debris and Planting Project Completion Report

Download or read book Chicken Creek Large Woody Debris and Planting Project Completion Report written by Joe Platz and published by . This book was released on 2016 with total page 4 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Chicken Creek is spawning and rearing habitat for Snake River Basin summer steelhead, Snake River Basin spring chinook salmon, bull trout and redband trout. The summer steelhead, spring/summer chinook and bull trout are federally listed under ESA as threatened species. Redband trout are on the Regional Forester's Sensitive Species List. Historic timber harvest, mountain pine beetle mortality and associated roading removed larger conifers from the valley bottom, reducing the future recruitment of large wood to the stream. Historic grazing has caused impacts to the riparian area. This project improved the riparian area and wood in the stream through planting and large wood additions."--Page 2.

Book Meadow Creek Large Woody Debris Phase 2

Download or read book Meadow Creek Large Woody Debris Phase 2 written by Joe Platz and published by . This book was released on 2015 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "The Meadow Creek Project Phase II encompassed 4.5 miles of chinook salmon and steelhead habitat within the Starkey Experimental Forest. Past restoration efforts undertaken in the early 1990's included installation of log sills and rock structural elements. The majority of these additions are no longer present due to high flows and ice scour events. Livestock grazing was also addressed with past restoration efforts, resulting in changes in timing and distribution of livestock grazing. Actions executed in this project included constructing large wood/boulder structures at 30 sites, riparian planting, big game and livestock exclosure/pasture fence construction, and seeding of disturbed areas with native grass/forb seed mix."--Page 2.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book offers readers an opportunity to ride the historic Humboldt Wagon Road from Chico to Susanville through images that have been collected since the 1860s. Many never-before-published photographs and oral histories tell a story of people who established what has been called this "small corner of the West." In the 1850s, John Bidwell, a California pioneer, agriculturist, businessman, and politician, envisioned a freight and passenger route that would connect San Francisco, the Sacramento River, and his newly established community of Chico. He wanted it to cross the mountains to the gold and silver mines in Idaho and Nevada. Bidwell financed, constructed, and opened the road for horses, wagons, stagecoaches, and eventually trucks and automobiles. From the Civil War era until the present, the road has carried everything from lumber to tourists.

Book Lost a Desert River and Its Native Fishes

Download or read book Lost a Desert River and Its Native Fishes written by Gordon Mueller and published by . This book was released on 2002 with total page 90 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Colorado River had one of the most unique fish communities in the world. Seventy-five percent of those species were found nowhere else in the world. Settlement of the lower basin brought dramatic change to both the river and its native fish. Those changes began more than 120 years ago as settlers began stocking nonnative fishes. By 1930, nonnative fish had spread throughout the lower basin and replaced native communities. All resemblance of historic river conditions faded with the construction of Hoover Dam in 1935 and other large water development projects. Today, few remember what the Colorado River was really like. Seven of the nine mainstream fishes are now Federally-protected as endangered. Federal and state agencies are attempting to recover these fish. However, progress has been frustrated due to the severity of human impact. This report represents testimony, old descriptions, and photographs describing the changes that have taken place in hopes that it will provide managers, biologists, and the interested public a better appreciation of the environment that shaped these unique fish.
