Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Black Fox is a Cherokee Lighthorseman, a lawman who believes that the White man's law is the only way his people can hold control of the Nation. He is on the hunt for The Cat, an outlaw who has been stealing goods to deliver to poor families and allegedly killed a US Marshall in the process. After a robbery and subsequent shoot out in town, Black Fox spots a young boy running from the scene and follows him, sure he is The Cat. But to his surprise, the boy turns out to be a girl! Cathleen O'Sullivan has no need for the law, especially when they refused to prosecute the man who destroyed her family. Now disguised as The Cat, she steals goods from her enemy to help the poor, and if it brings havoc to him and his bootlegging partners, then all the better. Then during a shootout, she is wounded, and captured by Black Fox. This ruggedly handsome lawman is not at all what she expected, especially when he cares for her wounds and protects her from her enemies instead of hauling her off to jail. She insists she's being framed for murder, and though Black Fox knows he should not be seduced by this spunky slip of a girl who has no respect for the law, he's torn between loving her and arresting her.

Book excerpt: A proud Cherokee Lighthorseman, Black Fox is determined to hunt down the notorious Cat -- a brazen thief who robs from the wealthy to give to the poor. But his satisfaction at finally capturing the elusive outlaw turns to shock when he discovers The Cat is a woman in disguise -- a breathtaking young hellion who stirs his sympathy and his desire, distracting Black Fox from the job he has sworn to do. Cathleen O'Sullivan has no love for the law, since it did nothing to punish the villain who destroyed her family. But a bullet wound ended her personal quest for justice, and if she doesn't escape her rugged Cherokee captor, she'll surely hang for a crime she did not commit. But the tender care she's receiving from the sexy lawman -- and the intense heat his touch inspires -- makes the wild beauty burn to have Black Fox as a lover, not an enemy ... and to surrender to a fiery passion that could spell disaster for them both.

Book Romance Fiction

Download or read book Romance Fiction written by Kristin Ramsdell and published by Bloomsbury Publishing USA. This book was released on 2012-03-02 with total page 1138 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A comprehensive guide that defines the literature and the outlines the best-selling genre of all time: romance fiction. More than 2,000 romances are published annually, making it difficult for fans and the librarians who advise them to keep pace with new titles, emerging authors, and constant evolution of this dynamic genre. Fortunately, romance expert and librarian Kristin Ramsdell provides a definitive guide to this fiction genre that serves as an indispensible resource for those interested in it—including fans searching for reading material—as well as for library staff, scholars, and romance writers themselves. This title updates the last edition of Romance Fiction: A Guide to the Genre, published in 1999.While the emphasis is on newer titles, many of the important older classics are retained, keeping the focus of the book on the entire genre, instead of only those titles published during the last decade. Specific changes include new chapters on linked and continuing romances, a new section on "Chick Lit" in the Contemporary Romance chapter, an expansion of coverage on the alternative reality subset. This is THE romance genre guide to have.

Book The Cherokee Struggle to Maintain Identity in the 17th and 18th Centuries

Download or read book The Cherokee Struggle to Maintain Identity in the 17th and 18th Centuries written by William R. Reynolds, Jr. and published by McFarland. This book was released on 2015-01-24 with total page 437 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: With the arrival of Europeans in North America, the Cherokee were profoundly affected. This book thoroughly discusses their history during the Colonial and Revolutionary War eras. Starting with the French and Indian War, the Cherokee were allied with the British, relying on them for goods like poorly made muskets. The alliance proved unequal, with the British refusing aid--even as settlers made incursions into Cherokee lands--while requiring them to fight on the British side against the French and rebellious Americans. At the same time, the Cherokee were moving away from their traditions, and leadership disagreements caused their nation to become fragmented. All of this resulted in the loss of Cherokee ancestral lands.

Book excerpt: My dear sister Clara, London society is so much more complicated than I could ever have known! Every night is a different ball or assembly, and a different swirl of glittering jewels and rustling gowns. Though I fear I am making social blunders left and right I am having some measure of success in my (or rather, Mother's) objective. Mother is beside herself with glee at the attentions I have been receiving from a few gentlemen she finds supremely suitable as husband material. But my dearest sister, it is so hard for me to even look at any gentleman but a certain duke, who, if I may confess, makes my heart beat so that I fear it can be seen across a ballroom. He is James Langdon, the Duke of Wentworth, and though I may sound dramatic, he makes me feel as no man ever has before. But I must push these feelings away. I sometimes hear whispers about his dark past, and he is quietly called the Dangerous Duke. Oh Clara! I am secretly overjoyed that he may love me, and at the same time terrified of his attentions. I have waited so long for my true love, and now I must resist him to protect my heart. If only I knew how to proceed… Your devoted sister, Sophia
