Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Cherish: Behold, I Knock continues the story begun in Cherish: A Still, Small Call about Reverend Andy Garrett, his family, his friends, and the working of God in a rural community called Cherish. This is Andys first church, and even though Andy is from the suburbs of Chicago and knows little about farm country, he and his wife, Abbey, grow close to the flock they serve. It is a church that knows how to deal with bats in the sanctuary, a deaf substitute pianist, and a wild-haired and poetic church secretary. Andy finds out what happens when the water of the baptistry boils over the night before a baptism, and he learns how his unchurched, bartending background can be used by God to change the life of a drug-addicted teen. Most of all, Andy finds an opportunity to share with his parents the love of God and the truth of Christs redemption. It is dramatic and remarkable how God finally works to draw them to himself.

Like twelve sermon illustrations, the juxtaposition from New Testament times to our modern day puts us at the feet of Jesus. His Timeless Touch captures Jesus’s touch on twelve individual lives. Each story draws on biblical accounts with tenderness and insight. Here are examples: Wonder as Jesus texts reporters hounding a seductress and her partner. Share a blind man’s dreams come true. Commiserate with a height-challenged man who takes revenge. Get a mother-in-law’s opinion. Cry with the mother of a sex-trafficked girl whose demons are cast out. Follow a cyber thief to repentance and a promise of paradise. No character who is touched by Jesus remains unchanged. Every encounter proclaims him to be the Son of God and leads to worship—even today!

Book excerpt: When a mysterious boy arrives at her bedside, a despairing young accident victim resents his intrusion. Twelve-year-old Cricket Dalton is convinced her life is over. What good is living if you can’t move or feel anything below your neck? And, worse yet, you’ve been relegated indefinitely to a dreary nursing home. The mysterious Josh makes Cricket talk, and he nearly force-feeds her pancakes to get her to eat. Then, one day, Josh introduces Cricket to his magic onyx stones. With one click of the stones, the two of them fly to a city on an unknown planet. There, Cricket and Josh are forced to escape from a heartless crowd. As they flee, they encounter other people in hiding—people who survive on nightly dumpster raids and a promise that one day a savior will come for them. Their plight reminds Cricket of Biblical End Times’ prophecies on Earth, but their future seems more hopeless. Cricket’s heart breaks for the little children trapped in the sunless underground labyrinth, and she and Josh devise a way to bring them food. With every visit, Cricket criticizes their God as having abandoned them. But, little by little, through the fugitives’ stories of past persecution and rescue, the underground people convince her that hope does exist. They convince Cricket that the timeline of the prophecies indicates their rescue is near--to be preceded by a massive earthquake that will either bury or deliver them. Back at the nursing home, other changes are taking place. A new black nurse becomes Cricket’s staunch defender and champion. A misguided nursing home director has taken extreme measures to uncover why, some mornings, Cricket’s gown and bed socks indicate she has been walking. “Is your paralysis a sham, Missy?” the woman challenges. How can Cricket explain about the onyx-stone adventures and how, while on them, she can, indeed, walk? Surely, no one would believe her. But the new nurse, Marlene Grace, takes a chance. And Marlene Grace’s dedication and love promise to make Cricket’s quadriplegic life full and blessed. That promise is threatened, however, when, on a startling trip back to the planet, Cricket and Josh join their underground friends in a panicked race to escape the collapse of the labyrinth. The earthquake has begun . . .

Book excerpt: A compassionate, shame-free guide for your darkest days “A one-of-a-kind book . . . to read for yourself or give to a struggling friend or loved one without the fear that depression and suicidal thoughts will be minimized, medicalized or over-spiritualized.”—Kay Warren, cofounder of Saddleback Church What happens when loving Jesus doesn’t cure you of depression, anxiety, or suicidal thoughts? You might be crushed by shame over your mental illness, only to be told by well-meaning Christians to “choose joy” and “pray more.” So you beg God to take away the pain, but nothing eases the ache inside. As darkness lingers and color drains from your world, you’re left wondering if God has abandoned you. You just want a way out. But there’s hope. In I Love Jesus, But I Want to Die, Sarah J. Robinson offers a healthy, practical, and shame-free guide for Christians struggling with mental illness. With unflinching honesty, Sarah shares her story of battling depression and fighting to stay alive despite toxic theology that made her afraid to seek help outside the church. Pairing her own story with scriptural insights, mental health research, and simple practices, Sarah helps you reconnect with the God who is present in our deepest anguish and discover that you are worth everything it takes to get better. Beautifully written and full of hard-won wisdom, I Love Jesus, But I Want to Die offers a path toward a rich, hope-filled life in Christ, even when healing doesn’t look like what you expect.

Book The Holy Bible

    Book Details:
  • Author : Covenant Christian Coalition
  • Publisher : Covenant Press
  • Release : 2020-02-02
  • ISBN :
  • Pages : 1709 pages

Download or read book The Holy Bible written by Covenant Christian Coalition and published by Covenant Press. This book was released on 2020-02-02 with total page 1709 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: THE LSV IS FINALLY HERE: A BRAND NEW, LITERAL, EASY-TO-READ TRANSLATION OF THE COMPLETE HOLY BIBLE—BOTH OLD AND NEW TESTAMENTS. This is the first edition of the LSV available for Google Play. The LSV is published by Covenant Press, the publishing arm of the Covenant Christian Coalition. *A modern, literal, word-for-word (formal equivalence) English translation of the Holy Scriptures utilizing English word rearrangement when necessitated for readability. The LSV is the most literal translation of The Holy Bible, with significant improvement over previous literal translations, including Robert Young’s excellent Young’s Literal Translation. *Preservation of verb tenses wherever possible. *Utilization of the transliterated Tetragrammaton in the Old Testament. All uppercase LORD is used in the New Testament when a reference to YHWH is likely. *Removal of many Hebrew and Greek transliterations; remember, transliterations are generally not translations. *Unlike most translations, justified typographic alignment consistent with the style of the original Hebrew, Aramaic, and Greek biblical autographs. The ancient caesura mark is used for easy readability of poetic literature such as the Psalms. *Inclusion of the verses found in older English translations such as the King James Version (KJV) that are not found in many modern translations; and inclusion of the alternative LXX Genesis chronology set next to the MT. These are contained within bolded double brackets for distinction. *Capitalized pronouns and other nounal forms when referring to God, Christ, or the Holy Spirit. References to the Messenger of the LORD are also capitalized when the subject appears to be a clear reference to God or the Messiah (as found in translations such as the NKJV). The goal of any good translation is to produce a readable text that preserves the original autographic meaning and comes as close as possible to translating, word-for-word, manuscripts that accurately represent the original writings. It’s with this goal in mind that the Literal Standard Version (LSV) was written—a modern, yet literal English translation based upon the most prolific texts: the Masoretic Text (MT) for the Old Testament and the Textus Receptus (TR) and Majority Text (M) for the New. However, in certain, specific instances other manuscript versions and text-types are used where the evidence seems incontrovertible (e.g., the LXX and DSS in the Hebrew and Aramaic; the Alexandrian in the Greek). ANOTHER TRANSLATION, WHY? There have been a slew of new English translations in the past half-century, which may cause some to wonder why the need for another. The translators agree with the premise that different translations can serve different demographics and different reading levels to maximize exposure to God’s word. In this sense, the LSV is not a competitor to other excellent translations, but is complimentary. As the most literal modern English translation, the LSV is an excellent resource for deep and thoughtful Bible study and research, essentially an interlinear in terms of word-for-word translation, but arranged with English sentence structure.
