Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This second open access volume of the handbook series deals with detectors, large experimental facilities and data handling, both for accelerator and non-accelerator based experiments. It also covers applications in medicine and life sciences. A joint CERN-Springer initiative, the "Particle Physics Reference Library" provides revised and updated contributions based on previously published material in the well-known Landolt-Boernstein series on particle physics, accelerators and detectors (volumes 21A, B1,B2,C), which took stock of the field approximately one decade ago. Central to this new initiative is publication under full open access

Book Physics of Nuclear Radiations

Download or read book Physics of Nuclear Radiations written by Chary Rangacharyulu and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2013-12-20 with total page 361 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This text makes the physics of nuclear radiations accessible to students with a basic background in physics and mathematics. Rather than convince students one way or the other about the hazards of nuclear radiations, the text empowers them with tools to calculate and assess nuclear radiations and their impact. It discusses the meaning behind mathematical formulae as well as the areas in which the equations can be applied. Coverage includes archeology, health, and medical physics applications.

Book Experimental Techniques in Nuclear and Particle Physics

Download or read book Experimental Techniques in Nuclear and Particle Physics written by Stefaan Tavernier and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2010-02-06 with total page 316 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: I have been teaching courses on experimental techniques in nuclear and particle physics to master students in physics and in engineering for many years. This book grew out of the lecture notes I made for these students. The physics and engineering students have rather different expectations of what such a course should be like. I hope that I have nevertheless managed to write a book that can satisfy the needs of these different target audiences. The lectures themselves, of course, need to be adapted to the needs of each group of students. An engineering student will not qu- tion a statement like “the velocity of the electrons in atoms is ?1% of the velocity of light”, a physics student will. Regarding units, I have written factors h and c explicitly in all equations throughout the book. For physics students it would be preferable to use the convention that is common in physics and omit these constants in the equations, but that would probably be confusing for the engineering students. Physics students tend to be more interested in theoretical physics courses. However, physics is an experimental science and physics students should und- stand how experiments work, and be able to make experiments work. This is an open access book.

Book Introduction To Ultrahigh Energy Cosmic Ray Physics

Download or read book Introduction To Ultrahigh Energy Cosmic Ray Physics written by Pierre Sokolsky and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2018-03-08 with total page 168 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Cosmic ray physics has recently attracted a great deal of attention from the high energy physics community because of the discovery of new sources and the advent of new techniques. The result of a series of lectures prepared for graduate students and postdoctoral researchers, this book is a general introduction to experimental techniques and results in the field of ultrahigh energy cosmic rays. It succinctly summarizes the rapidly developing field, and provides modern results that include data from newer detectors. Combining experiment and theory, the text explores the results of a single, easy-to-understand experiment to tie together various issues involved in the physics of ultrahigh energy cosmic rays.

Book Single Particle Detection And Measurement

Download or read book Single Particle Detection And Measurement written by R S Gilmore and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2020-11-26 with total page 266 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides a summary of the state of science in teh field of single particle detection and measurement. The text delineates between those low performance detectors, capable of registering only a large number of particles and those complex, highly designed systems capable of detecting and measuring single interactions or events. The author describes the problems associated with detection, measurement and subsequent interpretation of such quantum processes. He also evolves the subject from its roots in nuclear and particle physics into latter day applications such as probes for investigation of materials and objects. The different nature and use of high-energy particles compared with photons is highlighted.
