Book Chemistry Within Van Der Waals Cluster of Unsaturated Molecules Observation of Cationic Polymerization

Download or read book Chemistry Within Van Der Waals Cluster of Unsaturated Molecules Observation of Cationic Polymerization written by and published by . This book was released on 1992 with total page 8 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We present in this paper the observation of intracluster ion-molecule polymerization reactions within clusters containing molecules which possess double or triple carbon-carbon bonds. This effect is borne out by the observation of unusual magic numbers in the cluster ion distribution only under expansion conditions which favor the production of large neutral clusters. These magic numbers are rationalized in terms of the production of covalently bonded cyclic molecular ions which terminate the cationic polymerization process.

Book Cationic Polymerization Within Van Der Waals Clusters of the Form

Download or read book Cationic Polymerization Within Van Der Waals Clusters of the Form written by and published by . This book was released on 1990 with total page 32 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The cluster ion mass spectra resulting from electron ionization of van der Waals clusters composed of ethene, 1, 1-difluoroethene or propene molecules were observed as a function of expansion and ionization conditions. Expansion conditions favoring the formation of large neutral clusters lead to the observation of anomalous ion intensity distributions characterized by strong peaking as a function of cluster size. Comparisons are made between the present results and previous observations in both the gas and condensed phases. We propose that the anomalous cluster ion distributions arise as a consequence of the production of molecular (i.e., covalently bonded) ions produced by a series of intracluster addition (polymerication) reactions.

Book Physics and Chemistry of Finite Systems From Clusters to Crystals

Download or read book Physics and Chemistry of Finite Systems From Clusters to Crystals written by Peru Jena and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-11-11 with total page 1414 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Recent innovations in experimental techniques such as molecular and cluster beam epitaxy, supersonic jet expansion, matrix isolation and chemical synthesis are increasingly enabling researchers to produce materials by design and with atomic dimension. These materials constrained by sire, shape, and symmetry range from clusters containing as few as two atoms to nanoscale materials consisting of thousands of atoms. They possess unique structuraI, electronic, magnetic and optical properties that depend strongly on their size and geometry. The availability of these materials raises many fundamental questions as weIl as technological possibilities. From the academic viewpoint, the most pertinent question concerns the evolution of the atomic and electronic structure of the system as it grows from micro clusters to crystals. At what stage, for example, does the cluster look as if it is a fragment of the corresponding crystal. How do electrons forming bonds in micro-clusters transform to bands in solids? How do the size dependent properties change from discrete quantum conditions, as in clusters, to boundary constrained bulk conditions, as in nanoscale materials, to bulk conditions insensitive to boundaries? How do the criteria of classification have to be changed as one goes from one size domain to another? Potential for high technological applications also seem to be endless. Clusters of otherwise non-magnetic materials exhibit magnetic behavior when constrained by size, shape, and dimension. NanoscaIe metal particles exhibit non-linear opticaI properties and increased mechanical strength. SimiIarly, materials made from nanoscale ceramic particIes possess plastic behavior.

Book Chemistry Within Molecular Van Der Waals Clusters

Download or read book Chemistry Within Molecular Van Der Waals Clusters written by James F. Garvey and published by . This book was released on 1990 with total page 30 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A subject of great interest in recent years has been the study of the physics of weakly bound van der Waals clusters. These species have been probed in a variety of ways to gain an understanding of their formation and to determine their various physical properties. However, the study of chemical reactions within clusters is especially intriguing since clusters can conceptually bridge the disparate fields of bimolecular gas-phase reaction dynamics and solution chemistry. The ultimate goal of these studies is to obtain an understanding of the factors that govern reactions in solution but which are absent in gas phase processes. By concentrating on the chemistry within these cluster systems it is possible to directly observe how the behavior of the system changes as a function of stepwise solvation. In addition to the typical unimolecular and bimolecular gas-phase chemistry already studied within clusters, our group has recently observed the generation of new cluster product ions which cannot be explained by either of these two known processes. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Hardbound. In 1986 Michael Bever's Encyclopedia of Materials Science & Engineering defined the field of Materials Science.Since then research into how, by an adjustment to its molecular structure, the properties of a material can be adapted to perform specific applications has greatly increased. The Encyclopedia of Advanced Materials defines the limits of this new area of study, taking into account the many different views and perspectives encountered in research and thinking in the field, as well as emphasizing the multidisciplinary nature of the subject.Advanced Materials are defined as those where first consideration is given to the systematic synthesis and control of the structure of the material in order to provide a precisely tailored set of properties for demanding applications.Coverage includes: Advanced Ceramic Processing; Advanced Optical Materials and Displays; Composite Materials; Computer Mod
