Book The Sugar Brain Fix

Download or read book The Sugar Brain Fix written by Dr. Mike Dow and published by Hay House, Inc. This book was released on 2021-01-19 with total page 362 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Now out in tradepaper is The Sugar Brain Fix (a revised and updated edition of Diet Rehab), in which best-selling author and brain-health expert, Dr. Mike Dow, shows how sugar affects brain chemistry and provides new research on dieting and hypnosis. What makes a healthy brain? The answer is simpler than you think. In Diet Rehab, Dr. Mike Dow shared a simple, yet powerful plan to help readers kick their food addictions. Since then, Dr. Dow has gone on to become a New York Times best-selling author and has continued to research and publish books extensively on improving brain health. Over the past five years, he's gathered even more data that shows how our standard American diet is harming our brains and our bodies--and what we can do about it. In 2015, the first human study linking the blood-sugar spiking Western diet and a smaller hippocampus was published. There is now scientific proof that sugar is shrinking the brain! With The Sugar Brain Fix, Dr. Dow takes a closer look at how sugar affects brain chemistry, and the ways we can fix it. The book features cutting-edge research and Dr. Dow's modified Mediterranean diet--the best diet for brain health and wellness. The Sugar Brain Fix will also incorporate research about hypnosis, and other activities to naturally boost brain health. At its core, The Sugar Brain Fix is a cognitive behavioral guide for boosting serotonin and dopamine levels in the brain with a new-and-improved diet and natural mind-set shifts, while improving overall health. The diet has a clinically proven, 3-prong approach: 1) eliminate sugar, 2) boost Mediterranean-diet-friendly fats, 3) increase probiotics.

Book Diet Rehab

    Book Details:
  • Author : Mike Dow
  • Publisher : Penguin
  • Release : 2011-12-27
  • ISBN : 1101552239
  • Pages : 319 pages

Download or read book Diet Rehab written by Mike Dow and published by Penguin. This book was released on 2011-12-27 with total page 319 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The co-host of TLC's hit series, Freaky Eaters, reveals the ultimate diet plan to kick the junk-food habit in just four weeks- without the pain of withdrawal. In March 2010, The Scripps Research Institute released a study showing how rats on a junk-food diet had just as difficult a time-if not more so-giving up excess fat and sugar as the rats who were struggling to recover from cocaine dependence. The results showed that certain foods actually alter the brain's chemistry, making our consumption of these foods less like an indulgence and more like an addiction. Our brains require two key neurotransmitters to maintain proper mood and function, serotonin and dopamine. We get a rush of the two when we eat junk food, but the converse is also true: If we stop eating them cold turkey, we go through serotonin and dopamine withdrawal. This is what causes so many dieters to ultimately fail. In order to successfully lose weight, explains Dr. Mike Dow, dieters should be sensitive both to their emotional and physical needs. Dr. Dow, a psychologist who specializes in addictive behavior and eating disorders, introduces a four-week program for breaking the hold that food has over the body, mind, and spirit by gradually decreasing the amount of "bad" foods while increasing activities and foods that boost serotonin and dopamine levels. Sensible and uniquely effective, Diet Rehab eliminates the withdrawal pains of most diet plans, and provides the structure for a sustainable, healthy, and happy lifestyle.

Book An Introduction to Chemistry

Download or read book An Introduction to Chemistry written by Michael Mosher and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2023-03-18 with total page 1074 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This textbook is written to thoroughly cover the topic of introductory chemistry in detail—with specific references to examples of topics in common or everyday life. It provides a major overview of topics typically found in first-year chemistry courses in the USA. The textbook is written in a conversational question-based format with a well-defined problem solving strategy and presented in a way to encourage readers to “think like a chemist” and to “think outside of the box.” Numerous examples are presented in every chapter to aid students and provide helpful self-learning tools. The topics are arranged throughout the textbook in a "traditional approach" to the subject with the primary audience being undergraduate students and advanced high school students of chemistry.

Book Innocent Experiments

    Book Details:
  • Author : Rebecca Onion
  • Publisher : UNC Press Books
  • Release : 2016-10-04
  • ISBN : 1469629488
  • Pages : 241 pages

Download or read book Innocent Experiments written by Rebecca Onion and published by UNC Press Books. This book was released on 2016-10-04 with total page 241 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From the 1950s to the digital age, Americans have pushed their children to live science-minded lives, cementing scientific discovery and youthful curiosity as inseparable ideals. In this multifaceted work, historian Rebecca Onion examines the rise of informal children's science education in the twentieth century, from the proliferation of home chemistry sets after World War I to the century-long boom in child-centered science museums. Onion looks at how the United States has increasingly focused its energies over the last century into producing young scientists outside of the classroom. She shows that although Americans profess to believe that success in the sciences is synonymous with good citizenship, this idea is deeply complicated in an era when scientific data is hotly contested and many Americans have a conflicted view of science itself. These contradictions, Onion explains, can be understood by examining the histories of popular science and the development of ideas about American childhood. She shows how the idealized concept of "science" has moved through the public consciousness and how the drive to make child scientists has deeply influenced American culture.

Book The Chemical Warfare Service

Download or read book The Chemical Warfare Service written by Leo P. Brophy and published by . This book was released on 2010 with total page 528 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume, the second in a series of three devoted to the Chemical Warfare Service (CWS) in World War II, now the Chemical Corps, covers research, development, procurement, and distribution of chemical warfare materiel. It traces the history of these activities from the World War I period, when the CWS was activated to supervise the offensive and defensive aspects of gas warfare throughout the Army, until the end of World War II. The first volume in the series, "Organizing for War", discusses the development of the CWS organization and mission as well as personnel management and military training. The third volume, entitled "Chemicals in Combat", will deal with the chemical warfare activities in the theaters of operations. In treating research and development, the present volume concentrates on CWS projects that proved of greatest significance to the armed forces during World War II. It attempts to point up the problems that arose in course of research and development and to indicate the solutions which the scientists hit upon. Since research and development in the zone of the interior was closely related to research and development in the theaters of operations, the volume covers activities in both areas. In contrast to research and development, procurement and distribution differed considerably as between the zone of the interior and the theaters of operations; in the theaters these activities were closely associated with the commanders' combat responsibilities. The volume, therefore, confines itself to a review of procurement and distribution in the zone of the interior, leaving narration of theater activities to the volume "Chemicals in combat".
