Book Chemisorption and Magnetization

Download or read book Chemisorption and Magnetization written by P. W. Selwood and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2012-12-02 with total page 185 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Chemisorption and Magnetization focuses on particle size determination and on the number of adsorbent atoms affected when any molecule is adsorbed on a surface. This book examines the adsorption of a molecule on the surface of a ferromagnetic solid that produces a change in the magnetization of the solid. Organized into 12 chapters, this book starts with an overview of the experimental methods used for studying chemisorption and magnetization, which are applicable in granulometry. This text then discusses the measurement of saturation magnetization in a ferromagnetic substance in the form of small particles. Other chapters consider the conditions in a typical nickel–silica hydrogenation catalyst. This text examines as well the magnetization at moderate fields and near room temperature. The final chapter deals with the properties and complexities of palladium, platinum, and nickel. Students and researchers interested in heterogeneous catalysis and related areas will find this book extremely useful.

Book Adsorption and Collective Paramagnetism

Download or read book Adsorption and Collective Paramagnetism written by Pierce W. Selwood and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 2013-10-22 with total page 200 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Adsorption and Collective Paramagnetism describes a novel method for studying chemisorption. The method is based on the change in the number of unpaired electrons in the adsorbent as chemisorption occurs. The method is applicable to almost all adsorbates, but it is restricted to ferromagnetic adsorbents such as nickel, which may be obtained in the form of very small particles, that is to say, to ferromagnetic adsorbents with a high specific surface. While almost all the data used illustratively have been published elsewhere this is the first complete review of the subject. The book is addressed primarily to readers interested in heterogeneous catalysis and related areas of surface chemistry, surface physics, and physical metallurgy. For that reason there are included a number of definitions, and an elementary introduction to magnetism. But it is hoped that specialists in magnetism and solid state physics may also find here something of value. For that reason there is included an introduction to adsorption phenomena. If one group finds the detailed magnetic descriptions and calculations to be tedious it is to be hoped that the adsorption work will be found comprehensible, and vice versa.

Book Research Study of Chemisorption by Magneto Absorption

Download or read book Research Study of Chemisorption by Magneto Absorption written by D. P. Hollis and published by . This book was released on 1962 with total page 96 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The effect of adsorbed H on the magnetic losses in finely divided Ni at 3.7 and 13 mc/sec. was studied. The increased sensitivity at these frequencies is attributed to a difference in relaxation times for particles of different sizes. Experiments designed to detect the effect of adsorbed H on the microwave absorption of Fe and Ni single crystals are described. Possible reasons for the lack of a clear-cut effect are discussed. Ferromagnetic resonance spectra of finely divided Ni are described. The effects of adsorbed H on the intensity, g-value and line width of the resonance are discussed. It is demonstrated that the well-known magnetic effects of chemisorbed H on Ni, which have been measured at static and low frequency fields, can be observed also by magnetic resonance and with a sensitivity at least 10 to the 5th power greater, in terms of weight of metal required.

Book Quantum Chemistry Approaches to Chemisorption and Heterogeneous Catalysis

Download or read book Quantum Chemistry Approaches to Chemisorption and Heterogeneous Catalysis written by F. Ruette and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-03-14 with total page 379 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The development of "high-tech" materials in contemporary industries is deeply related to a detailed understanding of specific surface properties of catalysts which make particular reactions possible. But this understanding presupposes that there exists a body of theory capable of explaining situations not easily accessible to experimental methods and of relating experimental findings among themselves and with theoretical constructs. For these reasons, theoretical developments in surface physics and surface chemistry of transition metal compounds have been of paramount importance in promoting progress in catalysis, electronic devices, corrosion, etc. Although a great variety of spectroscopic methods for analyzing solids and surfaces at molecular scale have been introduced in recent years, nevertheless, many questions about the adsorption sites and intermediates, the effect of promoters, the poisoning of active sites, the nature of segregation of impurities, the process of surface reconstruction, the mechanisms of reactions, etc. have remained unanswered simply because of the great complexity of surface phenomena. It is in this sense that quantum mechanical method- combined with experimental data - may shed some light on the microscopic properties of new surface materials.

Book Relaxation of the Chemical Bond

Download or read book Relaxation of the Chemical Bond written by Chang Q Sun and published by Springer. This book was released on 2014-07-08 with total page 816 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The aim of this book is to explore the detectable properties of a material to the parameters of bond and non-bond involved and to clarify the interdependence of various properties. This book is composed of four parts; Part I deals with the formation and relaxation dynamics of bond and non-bond during chemisorptions with uncovering of the correlation among the chemical bond, energy band and surface potential barrier (3B) during reactions; Part II is focused on the relaxation of bonds between atoms with fewer neighbors than the ideal in bulk with unraveling of the bond order-length-strength (BOLS) correlation mechanism, which clarifies the nature difference between nanostructures and bulk of the same substance; Part III deals with the relaxation dynamics of bond under heating and compressing with revealing of rules on the temperature-resolved elastic and plastic properties of low-dimensional materials; Part IV is focused on the asymmetric relaxation dynamics of the hydrogen bond (O:H-O) and the anomalous behavior of water and ice under cooling, compressing and clustering. The target audience for this book includes scientists, engineers and practitioners in the area of surface science and nanoscience.

Book Fundamentals of Low Dimensional Magnets

Download or read book Fundamentals of Low Dimensional Magnets written by Ram K. Gupta and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2022-08-29 with total page 380 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A low-dimensional magnet is a key to the next generation of electronic devices. In some respects, low-dimensional magnets refer to nanomagnets (nanostructured magnets) or single-molecule magnets (molecular nanomagnets). They also include the group of magnetic nanoparticles, which have been widely used in biomedicine, technology, industries, and environmental remediation. Low-dimensional magnetic materials can be used effectively in the future in powerful computers (hard drives, magnetic random-access memory, ultra-low power consumption switches, etc.). The properties of these materials largely depend on the doping level, phase, defects, and morphology. This book covers various nanomagnets and magnetic materials. The basic concepts, various synthetic approaches, characterizations, and mathematical understanding of nanomaterials are provided. Some fundamental applications of 1D, 2D, and 3D materials are covered. This book provides the fundamentals of low-dimensional magnets along with synthesis, theories, structure-property relations, and applications of ferromagnetic nanomaterials. This book broadens our fundamental understanding of ferromagnetism and mechanisms for realization and advancement in devices with improved energy efficiency and high storage capacity.

Book World Scientific Reference On Spin In Organics In 4 Volumes

Download or read book World Scientific Reference On Spin In Organics In 4 Volumes written by Vardeny Zeev Valy and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2012-08-23 with total page 1368 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "This series summarizes the field of Organic Spintronics up to 2017. It contains four volumes dedicated to spin injection, spin transport, spin pumping, organic magnetic field effect, and molecular spintronics. The field of Organic Spintronics has accelerated and matured in the last dozen years with the realization of an organic spin-valve (in 2004) and magneto-resistance and magneto-electroluminescence in organic optoelectronic devices (2006). The book series is comprehensive in that it summarizes all aspects of Organic Spintronics to date. The first two volumes deal with spin injection, spin transport, spin manipulation and spin pumping into organic semiconductors. The main device that is thoroughly discussed here is the organic spin-valve, where spinterface states at the interface between the organic semiconductor and the ferromagnetic (FM) electrode has been the focus of many chapters. An interesting emerging subject is the role of chirality in the organic layer of the device. A relatively new method of achieving spin aligned carriers in organic semiconductors is spin pumping, where magnons in the FM substrate generate spin aligned carriers in the organic layer at the FM/organic interface. The third volume deals mainly with magnetic field effect in organic devices. Several spin-mixture processes that lead to magnetic field effect in devices and films are thoroughly discussed, such as hyperfine interaction, direct spin-orbit coupling, indirect spin-orbit coupling via [delta]g, triplet-triplet annihilation, and thermal spin alignment. The similarity between the magnetic field effect obtained in optoelectronic devices based on organic semiconductors and the novel hybrid organic-inorganic semiconductors is also a subject of intense interest. The fourth volume deals with spin in molecular films and devices. It includes thorough discussion of spin exchange interaction that leads to organic ferromagnets, as well as manifestation of various spin interactions in thin molecular films and devices."--
