Book Chemical Kinetics of Homogeneous Systems

Download or read book Chemical Kinetics of Homogeneous Systems written by R. Schaal and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 188 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Chemical kinetics aims to explain the factors governing the change with time of chemical systems. The results enable one to define optimum technico-economic condi tions (such as the choice of batch or continuous processes; of concentration, temperature, and pressure; of whether to use a catalyst) for the preparation of products, so that kinetics is intimately bound up with many processes of chemical industry (production, explosions, combustion, propulsion in air and in space). On another level, kinetic studies are indispensable for understanding reaction mechanisms, which implies a de tailed knowledge of the different chemical intermediates (possibly very transitory) of a chemical reaction. But in practice it is rarely possible to work with microscopic quantities of reagents and, with the exception of crossed molecular beams, all methods give only statistical results concerning a large number of molecules. Because of this restriction, it has not always been possible to establish conclusively a reaction mechanism, even for reactions ap parently simple. Numerous attempts have been made to calculate rate constants from the physical properties of the participating molecules; but the introduction of the 'time' factor into calculations of the distribution of energies of chemical processes makes this very difficult, so that the elucidation of mechanisms still depends almost entirely on experi mental studies. However, several theories have been elab orated which, in giving a more and more precise picture of the reaction process, have proved very fruitful, and have become indispensable in designing experiments.

Book Kinetics of Homogeneous Multistep Reactions

Download or read book Kinetics of Homogeneous Multistep Reactions written by Friedrich G. Helfferich and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2001-01-25 with total page 427 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book addresses primarily the chemist and engineer in industrial research and process development, where competitive pressures put a premium on scale-up by large factors to cut development time. To be safe, such scale-up should be based on "fundamental" kinetics, that is, mathematics that reflect the elementary steps of which the reactions consist. The book forges fundamental kinetics into a practical tool by presenting new effective methods for elucidation of mechanisms and reduction of mathematical complexity without unacceptable sacrifice in accuracy.

Book Reaction Kinetics for Chemical Engineers

Download or read book Reaction Kinetics for Chemical Engineers written by Stanley M. Walas and published by Butterworth-Heinemann. This book was released on 2013-10-22 with total page 353 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Reaction Kinetics for Chemical Engineers focuses on chemical kinetics, including homogeneous reactions, nonisothermal systems, flow reactors, heterogeneous processes, granular beds, catalysis, and scale-up methods. The publication first takes a look at fundamentals and homogeneous isothermal reactions. Topics include simple reactions at constant volume or pressure, material balance in complex reactions, homogeneous catalysis, effect of temperature, energy of activation, law of mass action, and classification of reactions. The book also elaborates on adiabatic and programmed reactions, continuous stirred reactors, and homogeneous flow reactions. Topics include nonisothermal flow reactions, semiflow processes, tubular-flow reactors, material balance in flow problems, types of flow processes, rate of heat input, constant heat-transfer coefficient, and nonisothermal conditions. The text ponders on uncatalyzed heterogeneous reactions, fluid-phase reactions catalyzed by solids, and fixed and fluidized beds of particles. The transfer processes in granular masses, fluidization, heat and mass transfer, adsorption rates and equilibria, diffusion and combined mechanisms, diffusive mass transfer, and mass-transfer coefficients in chemical reactions are discussed. The publication is a dependable source of data for chemical engineers and readers wanting to explore chemical kinetics.

Book An Introduction to Chemical Kinetics

Download or read book An Introduction to Chemical Kinetics written by Michel Soustelle and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2013-02-07 with total page 484 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is a progressive presentation of kinetics of the chemical reactions. It provides complete coverage of the domain of chemical kinetics, which is necessary for the various future users in the fields of Chemistry, Physical Chemistry, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, Macromolecular Chemistry and Combustion. It will help them to understand the most sophisticated knowledge of their future job area. Over 15 chapters, this book present the fundamentals of chemical kinetics, its relations with reaction mechanisms and kinetic properties. Two chapters are then devoted to experimental results and how to calculate the kinetic laws in both homogeneous and heterogeneous systems. The following two chapters describe the main approximation modes to calculate these laws. Three chapters are devoted to elementary steps with the various classes, the principles used to write them and their modeling using the theory of the activated complex in gas and condensed phases. Three chapters are devoted to the particular areas of chemical reactions, chain reactions, catalysis and the stoichiometric heterogeneous reactions. Finally the non-steady-state processes of combustion and explosion are treated in the final chapter.

Download or read book Reaction Kinetics written by Keith J. Laidler and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2013-10-22 with total page 263 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Reactions Kinetics: Volume I: Homogeneous Gas Reactions presents a general introduction to the subject of kinetics, including the basic laws of kinetics and the theoretical treatment of reaction rates. This four-chapter book deals mainly with homogeneous reactions in the gas phase. Chapter 1 presents the kinetic laws based on experimental results in terms of their simple concepts, with a special consideration of the way in which rates depend on concentration, while Chapter 2 deals with the interpretation of rates in terms of more fundamental theories. Chapter 3 covers the overall reactions that are believed to be elementary, such as the reaction between hydrogen and iodine, the reverse decomposition of hydrogen iodide, the corresponding reactions involving deuterium instead of hydrogen, and the dimerizations of butadiene and cyclopentadiene, as well as a few elementary termolecular reactions, all involving nitric oxide. This chapter also includes a general account of some of the elementary reactions that occur as steps in more complex mechanisms. Chapter 4 examines the reaction rates of numerous complex gas reactions. Undergraduate physical chemistry and chemical kinetics students, as well as advanced students in other fields, such as biology and physics, will find this book invaluable.

Book Kinetics and Catalysis in Homogeneous and Heterogeneous Systems

Download or read book Kinetics and Catalysis in Homogeneous and Heterogeneous Systems written by I. M. Kolesnikov and published by Nova Biomedical Books. This book was released on 2001 with total page 252 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book consists of two parts: the first one deals with kinetics of processes in heterogeneous systems and those with different degrees of phase dispersion. Strict analytic methods are recommended for solving the kinetic equations for non-catalytic processes in gas, liquid, and solid phases herein. The second part of the book is devoted to studying structure and properties of catalysts and to the developing of catalysis theories. Kinetic methods to describe catalytic process have been worked out. Mechanisms of elementary catalytic stages are under consideration: theoretical methods of selecting catalysts for chemical reactions are being suggested on the basis of the theory of catalysis by polyhedra and Generalised Quantum-Chemical Principle. Mechanisms of adsorption, homogenous and heterogeneous catalysis, are under consideration. Theoretical parts are illustrated by problems with solutions.

Book Kinetics of Multistep Reactions

Download or read book Kinetics of Multistep Reactions written by Friedrich G. Helfferich and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2004-09-15 with total page 508 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book addresses primarily the engineer in industrial process development, the research chemist in academia and industry, and the graduate student intending to become a reaction engineer. In industry, competitive pressures put a premium on scale-up by large factors to cut development time. To be safe, such development should be based on "fundamental" kinetics that reflect the elementary steps of which the reaction consists. The book forges fundamental kinetics into a practical tool by presenting new, effective methods for elucidation of mechanisms and reduction of complexity without unacceptable sacrifice in accuracy: fewer equations (lesser computational load), fewer coefficients (fewer experiment to determine them). For network elucidation, new rules relating network configurations to observable kinetic behaviour allow incorrect networks to be ruled out by whole classes instead of one by one. For modelling, general equations and algorithms are given from which equations for specific networks can be recovered by simple substitutions. The procedures are illustrated with examples of industrial reactions including, among others, paraffin oxidation, ethoxylation, hydroformylation, hydrocyanation, shape-selective catalysis, ethane pyrolysis, styrene polymerization, and ethene oligomerization. Many of the rate equations have not been published before. The expanded edition of the 2001 title, Kinetics of Homogeneous Multistep Reactions includes new chapters on heterogeneous catalysis and periodic and chaotic re-actions; new sections on adsorption, statistical methods, and lumping; and other new detail. - Contains new chapters on heterogeneous catalysis, oscillations and chaos - Includes new sections on statistical methods, lumping adsorption and software and databases - Provides a better understanding of complex reaction mechanisms
