Book Chemical Kinetic Modeling of a Methane Opposed Flow Diffusion Flame and Comparison to Experiments

Download or read book Chemical Kinetic Modeling of a Methane Opposed Flow Diffusion Flame and Comparison to Experiments written by and published by . This book was released on 1998 with total page 29 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The chemical structure of an opposed flow, methane diffusion flame is studied using a chemical kinetic model and the results are compared to experimental measurements. The chemical kinetic paths leading to aromatics and polycyclic aromatics hydrocarbons (PAHs) in the diffusion flame are identified. These paths all involve resonantly stabilized radicals which include propargyl, allyl, cyclopentadienyl, and benzyl radicals. The modeling results show reasonable agreement with the experimental measurements for the large hydrocarbon aliphatic compounds, aromatics, and PAHs. the benzene was predicted to be formed primarily by the reaction sequence of Allyl plus Propargyl equals Fulvene plus H plus H followed by fulvene isomerization to benzene. Naphthalene was modeled using the reaction of benzyl with propargyl, while the combination of cyclopentadienyl radicals were shown to be a minor contributor in the diffusion flame. The agreement between the model and experiment for the four-ring PAHs was poor.

Book A Chemical Kinetics Model for the Opposed Flow Diffusion Flame

Download or read book A Chemical Kinetics Model for the Opposed Flow Diffusion Flame written by C. M. Ablow and published by . This book was released on 1972 with total page 36 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A theoretical analysis is developed of the reaction kinetics limitations leading to the extinction of a counterflow diffusion flame. With increasing mass flux of reactants into the diffusion flame a maximum in the consumption rate of fuel and oxidizer in the reaction zone is encountered. The analysis shows that experimental measurements of the extinction conditions ('apparent flame strengths') are amenable to evaluation of overall kinetic parameters such as the activation energy, the preexponential Arrhenius term, and the order of reaction. The theoretical model is applied to the propane-oxygen-nitrogen system and an activation energy of 21.9 kcal/mole is derived from published experimental flame extinction data. (Author).

Book Reduced Kinetic Mechanisms and Asymptotic Approximations for Methane air Flames

Download or read book Reduced Kinetic Mechanisms and Asymptotic Approximations for Methane air Flames written by Mitchell D. Smooke and published by Springer. This book was released on 1991 with total page 264 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this comprehensive text a systematic numerical and analytical treatment of the procedures for reducing complicated systems to a simplified reaction mechanism is presented. The results of applying the reduced reaction mechanism to a one-dimensional laminar flame are discussed. A set of premixed and non-premixed methane-air flames with simplified transport and skeletal chemistry are employed as test problems that are used later on to evaluate the results and assumptions in reduced reaction networks. The first four chapters form a short tutorial on the procedures used in formulating the test problems and in reducing reaction mechanisms by applying steady-state and partial-equilibrium approximations. The final six chapters discuss various aspects of the reduced chemistry problem for premixed and nonpremixed combustion.

Book Investigations into the Combustion Kinetics of Several Novel Oxygenated Fuels

Download or read book Investigations into the Combustion Kinetics of Several Novel Oxygenated Fuels written by Wenyu Sun and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2023-09-22 with total page 178 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this thesis, attention was paid to several novel oxygenated fuels—carbonates, polyethers and ketones. Combustion kinetic investigations were performed for typical representative compounds, including dimethyl carbonate, diethyl carbonate, cyclopentanone, 3-pentanone, 1,2-dimethoxyethane and dimethoxymethane. For experiments, suitable diagnostic techniques were used to measure the detailed speciation information of the target fuels under different conditions. For kinetic modeling, rate coefficients for crucial elementary reactions were obtained through high-level theoretical calculations. Based on that, validated kinetic models with good predictive performances were developed. On the basis of experimental measurements and model interpretations, this work highlighted two important combustion characteristics regarding the practical use: the pollutant formation and the ignition performance. Besides, the correlation between oxygen-containing functional groups and the aforementioned combustion characteristics was revealed. To reveal the potential interactions between the reaction networks of oxygenated additives and the hydrocarbon base fuels during combustion. Chemical structures of laminar premixed flames fueled by binary fuels were measured, and by changing the initial fuel compositions, the addition effects of the oxygenates on the fuel consumption and pollutant formation behaviors were explored. It was found that complicated chemical interactions do not exist in the reaction networks under the investigated conditions.

Book Experimental and Kinetic Modeling Study of Cyclohexane and Its Mono alkylated Derivatives Combustion

This book was released on 2018-01-23 with total page 225 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This thesis investigates the combustion chemistry of cyclohexane, methylcyclohexane, and ethylcyclohexane on the basis of state-of-the-art synchrotron radiation photoionization mass spectrometry experiments, quantum chemistry calculations, and extensive kinetic modeling. It explores the initial decomposition mechanism and distribution of the intermediates, proposes a novel formation mechanism of aromatics, and develops a detailed kinetic model to predict the three cycloalkanes’ combustion properties under a wide range of conditions. Accordingly, the thesis provides an essential basis for studying much more complex cycloalkanes in transport fuels and has applications in engine and fuel design, as well as emission control.

Book Cleaner Combustion

Download or read book Cleaner Combustion written by Frédérique Battin-Leclerc and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-09-06 with total page 657 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This overview compiles the on-going research in Europe to enlarge and deepen the understanding of the reaction mechanisms and pathways associated with the combustion of an increased range of fuels. Focus is given to the formation of a large number of hazardous minor pollutants and the inability of current combustion models to predict the formation of minor products such as alkenes, dienes, aromatics, aldehydes and soot nano-particles which have a deleterious impact on both the environment and on human health. Cleaner Combustion describes, at a fundamental level, the reactive chemistry of minor pollutants within extensively validated detailed mechanisms for traditional fuels, but also innovative surrogates, describing the complex chemistry of new environmentally important bio-fuels. Divided into five sections, a broad yet detailed coverage of related research is provided. Beginning with the development of detailed kinetic mechanisms, chapters go on to explore techniques to obtain reliable experimental data, soot and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, mechanism reduction and uncertainty analysis, and elementary reactions. This comprehensive coverage of current research provides a solid foundation for researchers, managers, policy makers and industry operators working in or developing this innovative and globally relevant field.

Book Chemical Inhibition of Methane air Diffusion Flame

Download or read book Chemical Inhibition of Methane air Diffusion Flame written by K. Seshadri and published by . This book was released on 1996 with total page 38 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The principal objective of this research is to clarify the mechanisms of chemical inhibition of methane-air diffusion flames by CF3Br and CF3H. An experimental, numerical and analytical study is conducted. In inhibited flames at conditions close to flame extinction significant amount of oxygen is found to leak; through the reaction zone. Therefore an asymptotic analysis is performed to characterize the structure and critical conditions of extinction of uninhibited methane-air diffusion flames. Later this analyses is extended to methane-air diffusion flames inhibited with CF3Br. Critical conditions of extinction of the flame are measured over a wide range with agents added to the air stream and to the fuel stream. Numerical calculations with detailed chemistry are performed to calculate the structure and critical conditions of flame extinction. The numerical results are compared with the measurements.
