Book CHEMCIAL CONTROL OF GRASSY WEEDS IN WHEAT TRITICUM AESTIVUM L

Download or read book CHEMCIAL CONTROL OF GRASSY WEEDS IN WHEAT TRITICUM AESTIVUM L written by Muhammad Yasin and published by LAP Lambert Academic Publishing. This book was released on 2011-02 with total page 76 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Wheat is the most widely grown cereal grain crop and staple food of people in the world. Among many other factors of low yield in wheat, one of the most serious but less addressed causes is the presence of weeds. Weeds compete with crops for nutrients, light, space, moisture and cause reduction in wheat vigor, tillering, head size, kernel weight. Weeds lower the market value of the produce and hence bring economic losses to the growers. Chemical weed control is preferred over other weed control methods like manual weeding, mechanical weeding, intercropping, crop rotation and stale seed bed technique because it is quick, more effective and relatively cheaper. Grassy (narrow leaved) weeds like Phalaris minor, Avena fatua, Hordeum vulgare and Cyperus rotandus are the serious problem in wheat. This book describes identification of different grassy weeds present in wheat fields and most economical herbicides for controlling these weeds, especially against P. minor.

Book Integrated Weed Management in Kansas Winter Wheat

Download or read book Integrated Weed Management in Kansas Winter Wheat written by Dawn E. Refsell and published by . This book was released on 2013 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Integrated weed management (IWM) is an ecological approach to weed control that reduces dependence on herbicides through understanding of weed biology and involves using multiple weed control measures including cultural, chemical, mechanical and biological methods. The critical period of weed control is the duration of the crop life cycle in which it must be kept weed-free to prevent yield loss from weed interference. Eight experiments were conducted throughout Kansas between October 2010 and June 2012 to identify this period in winter wheat grown under dryland and irrigated conditions. Impact of henbit and downy brome density on winter wheat yields were evaluated on four farmer's fields with natural populations and on a research station with overseeded populations. Henbit density up to 156 plants m−2 did not affect winter wheat yield, while downy brome at a density of 40 plants m−2 reduced yield by 33 and 13% in 2011 and 2012, respectively. In the presence of downy brome, winter wheat should be kept weed-free approximately 30 to 45 days after planting to prevent yield loss; otherwise, weeds need to be removed immediately following release from winter dormancy to prevent yield loss due to existing weed populations. Flumioxazin and pyroxasulfone are herbicides registered for use in winter wheat, soybean and corn for control of broadleaf and grass weeds. Flumioxazin and pyroxasulfone were evaluated for plant response to localized herbicide exposure to roots, shoots, or both roots and shoots utilizing a novel technique. Two weed species, ivyleaf morningglory and shattercane, as well as two crops, wheat and soybean, were evaluated for injury after localized exposures. The location and expression of symptoms from the flumioxazin and pyroxasulfone herbicides were determined to be the shoot of seedling plants. The utilization of preemergence herbicides in winter wheat is not a common practice, although application may protect winter wheat from early season yield losses as determined by the critical weed-free period. Kansas wheat growers should evaluate the presence and density of weed species to determine which weed management strategy is most advantageous to preserving winter wheat yield.

The said symposium is held to study about the increasing incidence of herbicide-resistant weeds and the consideration of the production of herbicide-resistant crops. The book includes studies that suggest the delay and prevention of herbicide resistance; the gravity of the infestation of different herbicide-resistant weed; the management of herbicide resistance; and the mechanisms of herbicide tolerance. Also covered in the book are the improvement of different herbicides, as well as the prospective development of genetically engineered herbicide-resistant plants. Botanists, biochemists, and farmers would greatly benefit from the text, especially those who would like to explore and study the phenomenon.

Book Chemical Weed Control in Wheat Triticum Aestivum L

Download or read book Chemical Weed Control in Wheat Triticum Aestivum L written by M. Asif Shehzad and published by LAP Lambert Academic Publishing. This book was released on 2011-04 with total page 116 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) is an important cereal crop of the world and staple food of Pakistan's people. Over the last few years, weed flora infestation has become a key disaster in crop production. The quality of wheat produce from weed infected fields is inferior because these compete with crop plants for space, light and nutrients, harbor plant pathogens, create hurdles in cultural practices and mixing of their seeds with wheat grains. Owing to weeds infestation, tremendous changes in crop production have been assumed all over the world. This book, therefore, focuses on the use of different post emergence herbicides to reduce growth and spread of weeds from reaching at mature stage when they are extremely harmful to wheat plants. The importance of weed control in achieving better production of wheat is discussed in the light of results.

Book Weed and Crop Resistance to Herbicides

Download or read book Weed and Crop Resistance to Herbicides written by R. De Prado and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 326 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In recent decades, repeated use of herbicides in the same field has imposed selection for resistance in species that were formerly susceptible. On the other hand, considerable research in the private and public sectors has been directed towards introducing herbicide tolerance into susceptible crop species. The evolution of herbicide resistance, understanding its mechanisms, characterisation of resistant weed biotypes, development of herbicide-tolerant crops and management of resistant weeds are described throughout the 36 chapters of this book. It has been written by leading researchers based on the contributions made at the International Symposium on Weed and Crop Resistance to Herbicides held at Córdoba, Spain. This book will be a good reference source for research scientists and advanced students.
