Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Jeremiah Meacham (1613/1614-1696) emigrated during or before 1650 from England to Southold, Long Island, New York, and married twice. Joseph Mecham Sr. (1780-1845), a direct descendant in the sixth generation, married Sarah Basford, and they became Mormon converts. They moved from New Hampshire (via Ohio and Missouri) to Nauvoo, Illinois, where he died. His descendants and relatives lived in Utah, Idaho, Arizona, California and elsewhere. Download or read book Guidelines for the Geologic Evaluation of Debris flow Hazards on Alluvial Fans in Utah written by Richard E. Giraud and published by Utah Geological Survey. This book was released on 2005-06 with total page 21 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Utah Geological Survey (UGS) developed these guidelines to help geologists evaluate debris-flow hazards on alluvial fans to ensure safe development. Debris-flow hazard evaluations are particularly important because alluvial fans are the primary sites of debris-flow deposition and are also favored sites for development. The purpose of a debris-flow-hazard evaluation is to characterize the hazard and provide design parameters for risk reduction. The UGS recommends critical facilities and structures for human occupancy not be placed in active debris flow travel and deposition areas unless the risk is reduced to an acceptable level. These guidelines use the characteristics of alluvial fan deposits as well as drainage-basin and feeder-channel sediment-supply conditions to evaluate debris-flow hazards. The hazard evaluation relies on the geomorphology, sedimentology, and stratigraphy of existing alluvial fan deposits. Analysis of alluvial-fan deposits provides the geologic basis for estimating frequency and potential volume of debris flows and describing debris-flow behavior. Drainage-basin and feeder-channel characteristics determine potential debris-flow susceptibility and the volume of stored channel sediment available for sediment bulking in future flows.

Download or read book Geologic and Hydrologic Characterization of the Dakota Burro Canyon Aquifer Near Blanding San Juan County Utah written by Stefan M. Kirby and published by Utah Geological Survey. This book was released on 2008-01-23 with total page 53 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Recent residential growth in unincorporated portions of San Juan County north and east of Blanding utilizes ground water derived primarily from sandstone of the undivided Dakota and Burro Canyon Formations for culinary water. The primary source of recharge to the bedrock aquifer may be seepage from unlined irrigation canals and reservoirs along the northern extent of the study area, but the relative contribution of seepage to total recharge is unknown. Potential installation of a pipe system for water delivery along the northern canal could decrease recharge from seepage and adversely affect ground-water availability at culinary wells near Blanding. The goal of this study is to characterize the geologic framework of the Dakota-Burro Canyon aquifer and adjacent units and estimate the relative amounts of artificial and natural recharge for this aquifer. The scope of work for this project included new geologic mapping based on color air photos and extensive fieldwork, new measured stratigraphic sections of the principal aquifer, and well-log analysis. Hydrologic and geologic framework data presented in this report will support informed resource management decisions and provide basic data necessary for future numerical modeling of groundwater flow in the principal aquifer. 48 pages + 4 plates
