Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Act of Incorporation and by-Laws of the Philadelphia Medical Society: Instituted 1789 He Shall enter in proper place, and in a book kept exclusively for the purpose, the names, titles and residence of honorary members and the date of their elec tion. He shall insert in the same book the name, titles, and residence of those who have become honorary mem bers by receiving a degree in Medicine. He shall keep a separate record of all resolutions, having the force of by-laws, and shall have them published as a supplement to the printed code, at the end of each session. He shall cause to be published weekly, dur ing the session, the name of the lecturer and subject for the next stated meeting. The minutes shall be regularly signed by the recording secretary, as also all the acts and diplomas of the society, and the minute book, book of honorary membership, and other papers connected with his department, shall be confided to his care, and he shall be required to de liver them In good order to his successor. He shall deliver to the treasurer, weekly, a list of the junior members introduced into the society. If he shall be absent at the time for constituting the society, he shall be fined one dollar, unless In case of sickness, when he shall give due notice thereof, and transmit a correct statement of the minutes of the preceding meeting. The cause of death was double croupous pneumonia, induced by an attack of la grippe. The post-mortem was made by a pathologist who reported to me that the peritoneal cavity was perfectly healthy. There was no serum, blood or exudate. It is not often that one has an opportunity to see a specimen like this and to learn from it the normal process of healing in a stump on the broad ligament. M., July 20, 1896; but she did not report it to the nurses until about 10 A. M., when the pains became frequent and severe. The membranes must have rup tured before she was given her bath. Labor was normal in every respect as regards its progress. The head engaged in right-occipito posterior position, then, upon reaching the pelvic floor, the occiput, which was directed to the right and posteriorly, swung forward through an arc of 135 under the pubic arch. The perinaeum being quite rigid, it required some little time for the expulsion of the head, which, however, was accomplished without laceration of the perineal body.
