Download or read book Heat Shock Proteins of Malaria written by Addmore Shonhai and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2021-09-26 with total page 256 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This new edition describes the role of heat shock proteins in the life cycle of malaria parasites, particularly in the context of intracellular parasite stages. Thoroughly revised, this work provides a general introduction to the structural and functional features of heat shock proteins with a special focus on their role as molecular chaperones in ensuring protein quality control. The emphasis is on the heat shock protein families from Plasmodium falciparum, and their role in proteostasis and the development of malaria pathology. Moreover, the authors explore the latest prospects of targeting heat shock proteins in antimalarial drug discovery either directly or in combination therapies. Readers will experience a functional analysis of the individual families of heat shock proteins and their cooperation in functional networks, including both the parasite-resident proteome and the exportome released into host cells during intracellular stages. Subcellular and extracellular organelles such as the apicoplast and the Maurer’s Clefts associated with Plasmodium species are discussed in detail. The book highlights the role of heat shock proteins in the development and function of these structures. Biochemical expertise and the inclusion of novel therapeutic solutions make this collection a unique reference for experts in heat shock protein research, parasitology and infectious diseases, cell stress, molecular biology and drug discovery. Not least, advances in malaria control will contribute to ending epidemics and ensuring healthy lives in line with the UN Sustainable Development Goals.

Download or read book Host Parasite Cellular and Molecular Interactions in Protozoal Infections written by K.-P. Chang and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-06-29 with total page 426 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Tropical diseases such as leishmaniasis, malaria. trypanosomiasis, toxoplasmosis and amebiasis continue to plague the world, resulting in considerable morbidity and mortality, especially in the third world countries. These diseases are caused by a group of protozoa which have, over the years, undergone evolutionary adaptation to live often intracellularly in a parasitic way of life. So well-adapted have they become that they recognize the right hosts or cells to parasitize, yet at the same time they escape recognition and destruction by the host immune system. The mechanisms of such recognition and the escape of recognition are governed largely by host-parasite surface membrane interactions at the cellular and molecular level. Unique molecules produced by unusual pathways of these parasites have also been discovered and found to play important roles in their survival in the host. Understanding these mechanisms and pathways is essential not only to formulate a rational strategy for chemo- and immuno-prophylaxis and -therapy but also to unravel the mystery of biological evolution in symbiosis and parasitism. In the advent of our knowledge on the molecular biology and biochemistry of parasite membrane and other molecules, it is opportune to examine and discuss their possible roles in host-parasite recognition and interaction in a comparative approach. To highlight the recent advances of this area in various host-parasite systems, a NATO advanced Research Workshop was held from September 27 to October 1, 1986 at Hotel Villa del Mare, Acquafredda di Maratea, Italy.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides up-to-date information on experimental and computational characterization of the structural and functional properties of viral proteins, which are widely involved in regulatory and signaling processes. With chapters by leading research groups, it features current information on the structural and functional roles of intrinsic disorders in viral proteomes. It systematically addresses the measles, HIV, influenza, potato virus, forest virus, bovine virus, hepatitis, and rotavirus as well as viral genomics. After analyzing the unique features of each class of viral proteins, future directions for research and disease management are presented.

Download or read book Helicases from All Domains of Life written by Renu Tuteja and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 2018-10-15 with total page 200 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Helicases are ubiquitous enzymes found throughout evolution. Research in the helicase field has been going on for a long time now but in recent past with the completion of so many genomes, these enzymes have been discovered in a number of organisms. But the available literature is scattered. The huge number of identified DNA and RNA helicases, along with the structural and functional differences among them, make difficult for the interested scholar to grasp a comprehensive view of the field. Helicases from all Domains of Life is the first book to compile information about helicases from many different organisms in one place. Knowledge of the functions and features of helicases across the different kingdoms of life are a valuable source of novel ideas and information The book begins with a chapter on the evolutionary history of helicases followed by three "overview" chapters: one for bacteria/archaea (which are not mentioned), one for plants/algae and one for human helicases The overview chapters are followed by specific chapters on selected helicases of great importance from a biological/applicative point of view

Download or read book Lifecycles of Pathogenic Protists in Humans written by Wanderley de Souza and published by . This book was released on 2022 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume covers the most important parasitic protists that are known to infect humans. The pathogens discussed cause diseases like toxoplasmosis, malaria, cryptosporidiosis, leishmaniasis, amoebiasis, trichomoniasis, and giardiasis. Readers from microbiology will appreciate the special focus on protist cell biology. As demonstrated in several of the chapters, these parasites are characterized by peculiar structures and organelles that cannot be found in mammalian cells - even though both are eukaryotic. The book employs light and electron microscopy to display the changing morphology in various stages of parasitic development. In turn, the results are supplemented by transcriptome and proteome profiles that help to describe how these changes take place on a molecular level. Both researchers and clinicians from tropical medicine will find essential and practically applicable background information on these increasingly important pathogens.
