Book The Characterization of Chemical Purity

Download or read book The Characterization of Chemical Purity written by L. A. K. Staveley and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2016-03-05 with total page 183 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Characterization of Chemical Purity: Organic Compounds focuses on the processes, methodologies, and reactions involved in chemical purity. The selection first offers information on the concept of purity and its bearing on methods used to characterize purity and thermal methods, including general observations on impurity determination, freezing and melting phenomena, and classification of thermal methods of purity control. The manuscript also takes a look at density measurements, refractive index, and vapor pressure and boiling temperature measurements. The book ponders on chromatography and mass spectrometry. Discussions focus on chromatograms, testing of purity, quantitative and qualitative analysis, and liquid chromatography. The text also reviews optical, Raman, and nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy. Topics include infra-red (vibrational) spectra, experimental techniques, and nature of the Raman effect. Chemical and physical measurements, calibration of instruments, availability of standard reference materials, and value of human effort are discussed. The manuscript is a dependable reference for readers interested in chemical purity.

Book Spectral and Chemical Characterization of Organic Compounds

Download or read book Spectral and Chemical Characterization of Organic Compounds written by W. J. Criddle and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 1980 with total page 136 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book brings together information the student is likely to need in the laboratory for characterization of organic compounds-their principal chemical reactions and their spectral properties. For the third edition of this popular laboratory student text the authors have included the theoretical basis of the chemical tests which are described and have also expanded the sections on spectroscopy. In particular the layout of the tables-both chemical and spectroscopic-has been improved. The melting point tables have been revised in the light of current availability of organic compounds. A basic knowledge of the theoretical principles of spectroscopy is assumed. Systematic names are used throughout though where the older trivial names are still in common use these are given in addition. The book also includes a section on the characterization of pharmaceutical compounds for students of pharmacy. Contents: Preface to First Edition; Preface to Second Edition, Preface to Third Edition; Safety in the Laboratory; Preliminary Tests, Chemical and Spectroscopic Characterization of Functional Groups; Chromatographic Methods; The Separation of Organic Mixtures; Preparation of Derivatives: Tables of Organic Compounds and their Derivatives; Pharmaceutical Compounds; Index.

Book Detection and Identification of Organic Compounds

Download or read book Detection and Identification of Organic Compounds written by Miroslov Vecera and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 417 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The American edition of our monograph is not a mere translation of the Czech edition, which appeared some five years ago. We have had to respect the fact that even such a short period has sufficed for progress in this field, and that the field of application of methods of organic analysis has widened. We have therefore revised a number of chapters in Part 1, the general part of the monograph-mainly those devoted to chromatographic methods, which have been extended and complemented by methods of thin-layer chromatography and electrophoresis. The chapters on the theory of color reactions and on analytical literature have also been extended; the chapter on spectral methods has been extended by including the use of proton magnetic resonance in organic analysis, and the list of references has been enlarged by adding books of importance for organic analysis. In Part 2, the part dealing specifically with various elements and chemical groups, we have extended the chapters on solubility and on acids and bases. The methods for the detection and identification of given classes of compounds have also been supplemented by references to recent papers.

Book Problems and Problem Solving in Chemistry Education

Download or read book Problems and Problem Solving in Chemistry Education written by Georgios Tsaparlis and published by Royal Society of Chemistry. This book was released on 2021-05-17 with total page 503 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Problem solving is central to the teaching and learning of chemistry at secondary, tertiary and post-tertiary levels of education, opening to students and professional chemists alike a whole new world for analysing data, looking for patterns and making deductions. As an important higher-order thinking skill, problem solving also constitutes a major research field in science education. Relevant education research is an ongoing process, with recent developments occurring not only in the area of quantitative/computational problems, but also in qualitative problem solving. The following situations are considered, some general, others with a focus on specific areas of chemistry: quantitative problems, qualitative reasoning, metacognition and resource activation, deconstructing the problem-solving process, an overview of the working memory hypothesis, reasoning with the electron-pushing formalism, scaffolding organic synthesis skills, spectroscopy for structural characterization in organic chemistry, enzyme kinetics, problem solving in the academic chemistry laboratory, chemistry problem-solving in context, team-based/active learning, technology for molecular representations, IR spectra simulation, and computational quantum chemistry tools. The book concludes with methodological and epistemological issues in problem solving research and other perspectives in problem solving in chemistry. With a foreword by George Bodner.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Intended for advanced readers, this is a review of all relevant techniques for structure analysis in one handy volume. As such, it provides the latest knowledge on spectroscopic and related techniques for chemical structure analysis, such as NMR, optical spectroscopy, mass spectrometry and X-ray crystallography, including the scope and limitation of each method. As a result, readers not only become acquainted with the techniques, but also the advantages of the synergy between them. This enables them to choose the correct analytical method for each problem, saving both time and resources. Special emphasis is placed on NMR and its application to absolute configuration determination and the analysis of molecular interactions. Adopting a practical point of view, the author team from academia and industry guarantees both solid methodology and applications essential for structure determination, equipping experts as well as newcomers with the tools to solve any structural problem.

Book Tables of Spectral Data for Structure Determination of Organic Compounds

Download or read book Tables of Spectral Data for Structure Determination of Organic Compounds written by Ernö Pretsch and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-06-29 with total page 325 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Although numerical data are, in principle, universal, the compilations presented in this book are extensively annotated and interleaved with text. This translation of the second German edition has been prepared to facilitate the use of this work, with all its valuable detail, by the large community of English-speaking scientists. Translation has also provided an opportunity to correct and revise the text, and to update the nomenclature. Fortunately, spectroscopic data and their relationship with structure do not change much with time so one can predict that this book will, for a long period of time, continue to be very useful to organic chemists involved in the identification of organic compounds or the elucidation of their structure. Klaus Biemann Cambridge, MA, April 1983 Preface to the First German Edition Making use of the information provided by various spectroscopic tech niques has become a matter of routine for the analytically oriented organic chemist. Those who have graduated recently received extensive training in these techniques as part of the curriculum while their older colleagues learned to use these methods by necessity. One can, therefore, assume that chemists are well versed in the proper choice of the methods suitable for the solution of a particular problem and to translate the experimental data into structural information.
