Book Characterization of Deformation and Failure of Stainless Steel Welds

Download or read book Characterization of Deformation and Failure of Stainless Steel Welds written by and published by . This book was released on 2006 with total page 11 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Kolsky bar experiments have been used to determine the high-strain-rate response of AL6XN welds - including the base material, the heat-affected zone, and the weld. A finite element model for analyzing ductile fracture near the weld as been developed and implemented as a material routine VUMAT in ABAQUS/Explicit. The FE model involves a Gurson-type constitutive description for porous materials, combined with a microstructural length scale and an upper pound approach for modeling the onset and evolution of void coalescence. This model appears to provide a promising description of dynamic failure of butt-welded stainless steel plates. In a second investigation, pressure-shear plate impact experiments have been used to determine the shearing resistance of an epoxy and two vinyl esters at strain rates of 100,000/sec. This shearing resistance has been shown to increase significantly with increasing pressure.

Book Welding Deformation and Residual Stress Prevention

Download or read book Welding Deformation and Residual Stress Prevention written by Ninshu Ma and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2012-04-26 with total page 313 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Generally, welding produces welding deformation and residual stress in the products, which influences the quality and performance of the products. Although many engineers and researchers have made great effort how to control these incidents, they have still remained unresolved. Welding Deformation and Residual Stress Prevention provides a unique computational approach to the prediction of the effects of deformation and residual stress on materials. The goal is to provide engineers and designers with the ability to create their own computational system for predicting and possibly avoiding the problem altogether. - The basic theories including "theory of elastic-plastic analysis" and "inherent strain theory" , and analysis procedures are described using a simple three-bar model - Online simulation software to perform basic analysis on welding mechanics - Examples of strategic methods and procedures are illustrated to have solved various welding-related problems encountered in the process of construction - Appendices present data bases for welding residual stresses, temperature dependent material properties, etc.

Book Welding and Joining of Advanced High Strength Steels AHSS

Download or read book Welding and Joining of Advanced High Strength Steels AHSS written by Mahadev Shome and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2015-02-25 with total page 205 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Welding and Joining of Advanced High Strength Steels (AHSS): The Automotive Industry discusses the ways advanced high strength steels (AHSS) are key to weight reduction in sectors such as automotive engineering. It includes a discussion on how welding can alter the microstructure in the heat affected zone, producing either excessive hardening or softening, and how these local changes create potential weaknesses that can lead to failure. This text reviews the range of welding and other joining technologies for AHSS and how they can be best used to maximize the potential of AHSS. - Reviews the properties and manufacturing techniques of advanced high strength steels (AHSS) - Examines welding processes, performance, and fatigue in AHSS - Focuses on AHSS welding and joining within the automotive industry
