Book Phase Noise and Frequency Stability in Oscillators

Download or read book Phase Noise and Frequency Stability in Oscillators written by Enrico Rubiola and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2010-06-10 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Presenting a comprehensive account of oscillator phase noise and frequency stability, this practical text is both mathematically rigorous and accessible. An in-depth treatment of the noise mechanism is given, describing the oscillator as a physical system, and showing that simple general laws govern the stability of a large variety of oscillators differing in technology and frequency range. Inevitably, special attention is given to amplifiers, resonators, delay lines, feedback, and flicker (1/f) noise. The reverse engineering of oscillators based on phase-noise spectra is also covered, and end-of-chapter exercises are given. Uniquely, numerous practical examples are presented, including case studies taken from laboratory prototypes and commercial oscillators, which allow the oscillator internal design to be understood by analyzing its phase-noise spectrum. Based on tutorials given by the author at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory, international IEEE meetings, and in industry, this is a useful reference for academic researchers, industry practitioners, and graduate students in RF engineering and communications engineering.

Book Telecommunications Measurements Analysis and Instrumentation

Download or read book Telecommunications Measurements Analysis and Instrumentation written by Kamilo Feher and published by SciTech Publishing. This book was released on 1996-12-31 with total page 432 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A rare text dedicated to high-performance measurement techniques in modern communications. It describes high performance measurement techniques for digital communications and digital signal processing in radio and microwave systems, wire line channels, as well as measurements for analog communications channels. AUTHOR'S COMMENTS The purpose of this book is to present the engineering considerations necessary for the comprehension of modern telecommunication measurement and related instrumentation and analysis techniques. I wish to emphasize that this is not an academic book in the sense of analytical communications or measurement theory. Rather, it stresses the measurements, experimental analysis and instrumentation problems related to communications systems. PUBLISHER'S COMMENTS This book provides a strong foundation for understanding the special problems associated with testing modern communications systems. Its original publication anticipated the needs of communications engineers, setting a foundation for current work. The book's continued availability assures that new engineers will have access to a key reference text in this important area of technology.

Book The Measurement of Frequency and Frequency Stability of Precision Oscillators Classic Reprint

Download or read book The Measurement of Frequency and Frequency Stability of Precision Oscillators Classic Reprint written by David W. Allan and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-09-09 with total page 36 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Measurement of Frequency and Frequency Stability of Precision Oscillators The specification and performance of precision oscillators is a very important topic to the owners and users of these oscillators. This paper presents at the tutorial level some convenient methods of measuring the frequencies and/or the frequency stabilities of precision oscillators - giving advantages and disadvantages of these methods. Conducting such measurements, of course, gives additional understanding into the performance of the given pair of oscillators involved. Further it is shown that by processing the data from the frequency measurements in certain ways, one may be able to state more general characteristics of the oscillators being measured. The goal in this regard is to allow the comparisons of different manufacturers' specifications and more importantly to help assess whether these oscillators will meet the standard of performance the user may have in'a particular application. The methods employed for measuring frequency are designed for state - of the-art oscillators, and an effort has been made to allow for fairly simple, inexpensive, and/or commonly available components to be used in the measurement systems. The method for measuring frequency stability is basically that recommended by the ieee subcommittee on Frequency Stability of the Technical Committee on Frequency and Time of the ieee Group on Instrumentation Measurement. Keywords: Accurate frequency measurement; Accurate time measurement; Frequency; Frequency stability; Frequency stability analysis; Models of frequency stability; Picosecond time difference measurements. Book Digital Communications Test and Measurement

Download or read book Digital Communications Test and Measurement written by Dennis Derickson and published by Pearson Education. This book was released on 2007-12-10 with total page 1242 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A Comprehensive Guide to Physical Layer Test and Measurement of Digital Communication Links Today's new data communication and computer interconnection systems run at unprecedented speeds, presenting new challenges not only in the design, but also in troubleshooting, test, and measurement. This book assembles contributions from practitioners at top test and measurement companies, component manufacturers, and universities. It brings together information that has never been broadly accessible beforeā€”information that was previously buried in application notes, seminar and conference presentations, short courses, and unpublished works. Readers will gain a thorough understanding of the inner workings of digital high-speed systems, and learn how the different aspects of such systems can be tested. The editors and contributors cover key areas in test and measurement of transmitters (digital waveform and jitter analysis and bit error ratio), receivers (sensitivity, jitter tolerance, and PLL/CDR characterization), and high-speed channel characterization (in time and frequency domain). Extensive illustrations are provided throughout. Coverage includes Signal integrity from a measurement point of view Digital waveform analysis using high bandwidth real-time and sampling (equivalent time) oscilloscopes Bit error ratio measurements for both electrical and optical links Extensive coverage on the topic of jitter in high-speed networks State-of-the-art optical sampling techniques for analysis of 100 Gbit/s + signals Receiver characterization: clock recovery, phase locked loops, jitter tolerance and transfer functions, sensitivity testing, and stressed-waveform receiver testing Channel and system characterization: TDR/T and frequency domain-based alternatives Testing and measuring PC architecture communication links: PCIexpress, SATA, and FB DIMM
