Book The Analysis and Design of a Broadband Microwave Buffer Amplifier

Download or read book The Analysis and Design of a Broadband Microwave Buffer Amplifier written by Joel P. Dunsmore and published by . This book was released on 1983 with total page 170 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In microwave network analysis, proper matching of the measurement system is necessary to prevent measurement errors and provide a proper terminating impedance for the device-under-test. To obtain this matching, a buffer amplifier is often used in the first stage of the network analyzer. This study describes the design and analysis of one such amplifier for use in a future generation of Hewlett-Packard network analyzers. Design goals, specifically for return loss, were set. The amplifier was to operate in the 100 kHz to 3 GHz range. A common base amplifier was chosen, and an analysis performed to determine problem areas. Methods of correcting the problem areas were presented, and a breadboard was constructed for measurement purposes. The measurements presented indicate that the final circuit met all specifications.

Book Development and Experimental Characterization of Frequency reconfigurable Microwave Amplifiers

Download or read book Development and Experimental Characterization of Frequency reconfigurable Microwave Amplifiers written by Pol Carrera Escalé and published by . This book was released on 2019 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Frequency-reconfigurable amplifiers have become a topic of interest because of the need for compact, light-weight and inexpensive communication systems able to operate at different frequency bands. Key subsystems in reconfigurable receivers and transmitters are the microwave amplifiers, either low-noise amplifiers (LNA) or solidstate power amplifiers (SSPA). Different topologies have been proposed in the last years and a big research effort has been devoted to reconfigurable components, such as RF-MEMS switches. The subject of study of this project is the design of a frequency-switchable microwave amplifier that can be operated at three different frequencies (3.2 GHz, 4 GHz and 4.8 GHz) in the 5G band. To this end, a systematic design procedure to obtain a balanced gain, noise figure and input return loss in the three bands, is proposed. This procedure is applied to an amplifier topology composed of a fixed input matching network (IMN) and a switchable output matching network (OMN). The IMN is based on a simple line-stub structure, and the OMN consists of a line-stub-line-stub structure in which the two stub lengths are selected using one SPDT switch connected to each stub. The amplifier behaviour is simulated using circuit and 2.5D electromagnetic simulations and optimized. The amplifier was fabricated on a conventional microwave substrate, and its S parameters and noise figure were measured and compared to simulations, showing a very good agreement, thus validating the design approach.
