Reburial occurred as part of an agreement made at the time of the initial discovery between the Commission on Indian Affairs and the State Archaeologist at the Massachusetts Historical Commission. This agreement stipulated the conditions under which salvage and any subsequent analysis would take place. It was agreed that one year would be set aside for detailed study of the remains, after which they would be returned to the Commission on Indian Affairs for reburial.
