Book Chapter 8 Review and Analysis of Reactor Vessel Surveillance Programs

Download or read book Chapter 8 Review and Analysis of Reactor Vessel Surveillance Programs written by LE. Steele and published by . This book was released on 1983 with total page 46 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The problem of neutron radiation embrittlement of reactor pressure vessel steels has been addressed in earlier chapters by direct review of specific vessel surveillance programs. To end this study, all available surveillance results are summarized and analyzed within the context of current codes, rules, and standards. The results provide bases for certain modifications of future surveillance programs, surveillance analysis procedures and, possibly, for guiding criteria for developing Federal regulations and voluntary consensus standards and codes.

Book Structural Alloys for Nuclear Energy Applications

Download or read book Structural Alloys for Nuclear Energy Applications written by Robert Odette and published by Newnes. This book was released on 2019-08-15 with total page 673 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: High-performance alloys that can withstand operation in hazardous nuclear environments are critical to presentday in-service reactor support and maintenance and are foundational for reactor concepts of the future. With commercial nuclear energy vendors and operators facing the retirement of staff during the coming decades, much of the scholarly knowledge of nuclear materials pursuant to appropriate, impactful, and safe usage is at risk. Led by the multi-award winning editorial team of G. Robert Odette (UCSB) and Steven J. Zinkle (UTK/ORNL) and with contributions from leaders of each alloy discipline, Structural Alloys for Nuclear Energy Applications aids the next generation of researchers and industry staff developing and maintaining steels, nickel-base alloys, zirconium alloys, and other structural alloys in nuclear energy applications. This authoritative reference is a critical acquisition for institutions and individuals seeking state-of-the-art knowledge aided by the editors’ unique personal insight from decades of frontline research, engineering and management. Focuses on in-service irradiation, thermal, mechanical, and chemical performance capabilities. Covers the use of steels and other structural alloys in current fission technology, leading edge Generation-IV fission reactors, and future fusion power reactors. Provides a critical and comprehensive review of the state-of-the-art experimental knowledge base of reactor materials, for applications ranging from engineering safety and lifetime assessments to supporting the development of advanced computational models.

Book Chapter 6 Surveillance Programs Critique and Recommendations

Download or read book Chapter 6 Surveillance Programs Critique and Recommendations written by and published by . This book was released on 1970 with total page 22 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The most important factors of any reactor pressure vessel surveillance program are: (1) it provides for the irradiation of steel from the actual pressure vessel, (2) the irradiation location is as close as physically possible to the vessel wall with the irradiation temperature and neutron spectrum duplicating those for the reactor vessel. These criteria thus provide a very useful measure of the value to be vested in the results of each reactor vessel surveillance program discussed.

Book Chapter 1 The Bases for Surveillance Programs

Download or read book Chapter 1 The Bases for Surveillance Programs written by LE. Steele and published by . This book was released on 1983 with total page 14 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Metal Properties Council (MPC) has accepted the task of obtaining data on the properties of metals in critical areas of special need for industry in the United States (U.S.). One such area involves data on radiation effects in metals used as nuclear reactor pressure vessels. The MPC Subcommittee 6 on Materials for Nuclear Reactors, among other tasks, seeks information on availability and applicability, as well as the interpretation of data on radiation effects in reactor structural materials. In 1968, Subcommittee 6 sponsored an analytical review of data produced by periodic removal of surveillance capsules for assessing radiation effects on operating reactor pressure vessels. This work was prepared for the MPC by L. E. Steele and C. Z. Serpan, Jr., and was published in 1970 by ASTM as Special Technical Publication (STP) 481, entitled Analysis of Reactor Vessel Radiation Effects Surveillance Programs [1].

Book Role of Pressure Vessel Surveillance Programs in Power Reactors

Download or read book Role of Pressure Vessel Surveillance Programs in Power Reactors written by D. W. McLaughlin and published by . This book was released on 1967 with total page 13 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A panel discussion on the role of surveillance programs in nuclear reactor vessels was held at the 1965 ASME annual meeting. The paper presents opening statements by the panelists, and a summary of the panel discussion and conclusions. It is believed to be the first time that representatives of the four principal groups involved in surveillance programs--utilities, reactor manufacturers, insurers, and regulatory authorities--were brought together to exchange their views on the purpose and usefulness of such programs.

Book Chapter 4 Commercial Reactor Vessel Surveillance

Download or read book Chapter 4 Commercial Reactor Vessel Surveillance written by and published by . This book was released on 1970 with total page 70 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In spite of the large number of nuclear plants in the general category of operating, under construction, or planned, few had produced surveillance data by the end of 1968. Many programs are planned, however, and for perspective it may be of value to consider the reactors for which data on anticipated increase in NDT and planned surveillance are available. The small number of operating plants for which surveillance programs are now available limit severely the degree of specificity in tabulations of descriptive surveillance data.
