Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "The Ordovician period is a significant chapter in Earth's history that included the great Mid-Ordovician biodiversification event, the Hirnantian glaciation, and long-term greenhouse conditions. Ordovician rocks are widespread on most continents and the recent finalization of a modern chronostratigraphic classification of the Ordovician system now facilitates high-resolution correlations that allow for integrated multidisciplinary research. The diverse papers comprising this volume address orogenesis, paleogeography, climate modeling, sedimentation, biodiversity, and isotopic excursions; together they promote an integrated view of the Ordovician earth system."--Publisher's description.

Book High Resolution Approaches in Stratigraphic Paleontology

Download or read book High Resolution Approaches in Stratigraphic Paleontology written by P.J. Harries and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2008-07-30 with total page 480 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume delves into a spectrum of theoretical as well as applied aspects of high-resolution stratigraphic approaches in paleontology. It explores how increasingly detailed knowledge of the fossil record can enhance our understanding of the evolution of life on Earth and also allows geoscientists to address a broad range of important evolutionary and environmental questions in this arena. A 'zipped' version of the program CONOP9 2007 along with read-me files, sample files, and other documentation are available via a web site (see below). An earlier version of CONOP9 was initially supplied with 'High-Resolution Approaches in Stratigraphic Paleontology' (PJ Harries, editor) and described in Chapter 13 of that volume. This is an updated version of the program, and the documentation supplied with this version supersedes the information supplied in that chapter. Download or read book Bluegrass Paradise written by Gary A. O'Dell and published by University Press of Kentucky. This book was released on 2023-03-28 with total page 408 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the earliest days of the United States as settlers made their way west and into what would eventually become Kentucky, they were faced with many challenges in the task of surveying and claiming new and unknown land. Among the highest priorities for new residents was to determine if their chosen homestead could provide the fertile soil and fresh water they needed to sustain life and service their agricultural needs. Kentucky, with its underlying base of predominantly limestone rock—perfectly suited to the natural formation of caves, sinking streams, and springs of cool water—proved the ideal location on which to build their new lives. In Bluegrass Paradise: Royal Spring and the Birth of Georgetown, Kentucky, author Gary A. O'Dell tells the story of the Royal Spring, the largest spring in central Kentucky. Practical and essential to the creation of a successful settlement, the spring and its location became the primary reason pioneers would eventually congregate here and found the city of Georgetown as one of the earliest Kentucky communities. In the ensuing 250 years, the Royal Spring has faithfully served the water needs of the community and the locale remains a cherished cultural and historical asset that provides greenspace within a rapidly growing city.

Book Contributions to Kentucky Geology

Download or read book Contributions to Kentucky Geology written by Willard Rouse Jillson and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2015-06-25 with total page 278 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Contributions to Kentucky Geology: An Indexed Collection of All the Shorter Papers and Reports of the State Geologist Written During the Year 1919 on the Mineral Resources of the Commonwealth; Illustrated With Six-Five Photographs, Maps, and Diagrams The development of the mineral resources of the State of Kentucky, and the expansion of the allied industries has been tremendous during the last year. The total production of crude oil for the whole State, In 1918, was 4,308,893 barrels, valued at $11,128,421.00. In 1919, the total amount of crude oil produced was 9,226,473 barrels, which sold for $24,459,017. The tonnage figures of coal mined in Kentucky have also shot ahead, increasing from 27,809,976 tons valued at $60,297,653.00 in 1917, to 31,530,442 tons valued at $94,591,324 in 1918. Figures covering the various other tonnage values of mineral production In 1919 are not yet available, but are known to have expanded In similar proportions. This unprecedented growth has resulted in a corresponding demand for detailed geological Information concerning the mineral resources of this State. To meet this demand the State Geologist has during the year, made a large number of field examinations, results of which have been embodied In several short reports, which have been printed In pamphlet form in the Mineral and Forest Resource series. These paper bound books were Issued in small editions, ranging from 750 to 2,500 copies. They were almost immediately exhausted in edition, and the daily and insistent demand for them since their exhaustion, has clearly indicated the pressing need for their reprint These papers are therefore, brought together here under a single title for the convenience of the interested public. No changes have been made In the separate reports other than those required in resetting of the type, or to correct evident errata of one kind or another. This edition bound in linen is limited to 2,000.
