Book Refractive Index of a Liquid and Temperature

Download or read book Refractive Index of a Liquid and Temperature written by Gabby Ian and published by GRIN Verlag. This book was released on 2021-10-19 with total page 20 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Scientific Essay from the year 2021 in the subject Physics - Applied physics, grade: A, The Technical University of Kenya, language: English, abstract: After learning the refractive index concept in class, the author started wondering what will be the effect of changing temperature on the refractive index. Being a fan of swimming, concepts of apparent and real depth have always been fascinating to me. In this paper, he wanted to explore how the apparent and real depth of a liquid would change with an increase in temperature at different times of the day. The speed of light keeps changing as light moves from one medium to another of different optical densities. For instance, the speed of a ray of light moving from a denser medium to a rarer medium will decrease. If the ray reverse in the same direction, this time moving from a rarer medium to a denser medium, its speed will increase. Ideally, when the ray moves from a denser medium to a rarer medium, its particles collect together, hence reducing speed. On the other hand, when the ray is moving from the rarer medium to a denser medium, its particles spread out, and speed increases.

Book Theory and Applications of Heat Transfer in Humans 2 Volume Set

Download or read book Theory and Applications of Heat Transfer in Humans 2 Volume Set written by Devashish Shrivastava and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2018-04-16 with total page 890 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An authoritative guide to theory and applications of heat transfer in humans Theory and Applications of Heat Transfer in Humans 2V Set offers a reference to the field of heating and cooling of tissue, and associated damage. The author—a noted expert in the field—presents, in this book, the fundamental physics and physiology related to the field, along with some of the recent applications, all in one place, in such a way as to enable and enrich both beginner and advanced readers. The book provides a basic framework that can be used to obtain ‘decent’ estimates of tissue temperatures for various applications involving tissue heating and/or cooling, and also presents ways to further develop more complex methods, if needed, to obtain more accurate results. The book is arranged in three sections: The first section, named ‘Physics’, presents fundamental mathematical frameworks that can be used as is or combined together forming more complex tools to determine tissue temperatures; the second section, named ‘Physiology’, presents ideas and data that provide the basis for the physiological assumptions needed to develop successful mathematical tools; and finally, the third section, named ‘Applications’, presents examples of how the marriage of the first two sections are used to solve problems of today and tomorrow. This important text is the vital resource that: Offers a reference book in the field of heating and cooling of tissue, and associated damage. Provides a comprehensive theoretical and experimental basis with biomedical applications Shows how to develop and implement both, simple and complex mathematical models to predict tissue temperatures Includes simple examples and results so readers can use those results directly or adapt them for their applications Designed for students, engineers, and other professionals, a comprehensive text to the field of heating and cooling of tissue that includes proven theories with applications. The author reveals how to develop simple and complex mathematical models, to predict tissue heating and/or cooling, and associated damage.

Book Reeds Introductions Physics Wave Concepts for Marine Engineering Applications

Download or read book Reeds Introductions Physics Wave Concepts for Marine Engineering Applications written by Christopher Lavers and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 2017-03-09 with total page 224 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Reeds Introductions: Physics Wave Concepts for Marine Engineering Applications covers the fundamental theoretical maritime physics concepts which underpin electromagnetic wave and sonar principles as developed in most maritime-related courses, whether Naval, Coastguard or Merchant Marine engineering. For these reasons it is vital that maritime users have a basic understanding of the concepts upon which many essential modern sea-going sensors and communications devices now operate. Knowledge regarding electromagnetic waves and electromagnetic devices is an established merchant navy sea service requirement, particularly for the Standards in Training and Certification in Watchkeeping (STCW95) qualification in various Maritime Coastguard Agency exams, e.g. Marine Electrotechnology (as Chief Engineer and Second Engineer), as mandated by the UK Department for Transport. This short introductory book is written as simply as possible to support growing numbers of overseas students for whom English is not their first language. This volume provides a comprehensive study of maritime physics principles and provides a firm foundation prior to reading and studying of the following Reeds Marine Engineering series: Vols 1, 3, 6, 7, 14 and 15. Students having read this easy-to-read volume will be better prepared for the more in depth study of the other volumes listed.
