Book Rethinking Life

  • Publisher : Zondervan
  • Release : 2023-02-07
  • ISBN : 0310363918

Download or read book Rethinking Life written by Shane Claiborne and published by Zondervan. This book was released on 2023-02-07 with total page 289 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Drawing on Scripture, church history, and his own story, Shane Claiborne explores how a passion for social justice issues surrounding life and death--such as war, gun ownership, the death penalty, racial injustice, abortion, poverty, and the environment--intersects with our faith as we advocate for life in its totality. Many of us wonder how to think about and act on issues of life and death beyond abortion and the death penalty--yet the heated debates in our churches and the confusion of our own hearts sometimes feel overwhelming. What does a balanced, Christian view of what it means to be "pro-life" really look like? Combining stories, theological reflection, and a little wit with a Southern accent, activist Shane Claiborne explores the battle between life and death that goes back to the Garden of Eden. Shane draws on his childhood growing up in the Bible Belt, his own change of perspective on how to advocate for life, and his years of working on behalf of all people to help us: Learn from the Bible and the early church about valuing life Deepen our understanding of what a pro-life stance can look like Discover ways to discuss topics that are dividing our culture and churches Find encouragement when we feel politically homeless Renew our hope that there is a good way forward, even in difficult times We need a new movement that stands up for life--without exceptions. This moving and incredibly timely book creates a larger framework for thinking about God's love and our faith as we embrace a consistent ethic that values human life from womb to tomb.

Does your level of concentration fluctuate wildly? Do you feel overwhelmed at times? We all dream of overcoming our challenges. We dream of the perfect job, achieving new wealth, of living the life we choose in harmony with the people we love. For many of us, the dream stops there. We wonder what leads some extraordinary people to confront and exceed their goals and compete at the highest level, while others run in place, distracted by fears and a sense of intimidation. We seek the insights that will liberate us from anxiety and self-doubt. In this book, Jim Fannin shares a collection of ideas and daily exercises that transform everyday performers into true champions. Using the secrets of Fannin's time-tested S.C.O.R.E. The result: more moments, days, and years performing and thinking in the state of flow we call the "Zone," and more of the results and success that matter. Every chapter includes reader-friendly tests and exercises, like the "90-Second Rule" (a lesson in discipline) and "The Palm Tree Versus the Oak Tree" (a lesson in adaptability). For more than thirty years, Jim Fannin has coached hundreds of top-performing athletes and business leaders, who testify to what the S.C.O.R.E. System can do. Book Reason s Dark Champions

Download or read book Reason s Dark Champions written by Christopher W. Tindale and published by Univ of South Carolina Press. This book was released on 2012-10-15 with total page 263 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A complex and complete picture of the theory, practice, and reception of Sophistic argument Recent decades have witnessed a major restoration of the Sophists' reputation, revising the Platonic and Aristotelian "orthodoxies" that have dominated the tradition. Still lacking is a full appraisal of the Sophists' strategies of argumentation. Christopher W. Tindale corrects that omission in Reason's Dark Champions. Viewing the Sophists as a group linked by shared strategies rather than by common epistemological beliefs, Tindale illustrates that the Sophists engaged in a range of argumentative practices in manners wholly different from the principal ways in which Plato and Aristotle employed reason. By examining extant fifth-century texts and the ways in which Sophistic reasoning is mirrored by historians, playwrights, and philosophers of the classical world, Tindale builds a robust understanding of Sophistic argument with relevance to contemporary studies of rhetoric and communication. Beginning with the reception of the Sophists in their own culture, Tindale explores depictions of the Sophists in Plato's dialogues and the argumentative strategies attributed to them as a means of understanding the threat Sophism posed to Platonic philosophical ambitions of truth seeking. He also considers the nature of the "sophistical refutation" and its place in the tradition of fallacy. Tindale then turns to textual examples of specific argumentative practices, mapping how Sophists employed the argument from likelihood, reversal arguments, arguments on each side of a position, and commonplace reasoning. What emerges is a complex reappraisal of Sophism that reorients criticism of this mode of argumentation, expands understanding of Sophistic contributions to classical rhetoric, and opens avenues for further scholarship.

Book Reigning Champions

Download or read book Reigning Champions written by Joel Ishler and published by WestBow Press. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 56 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Why Should I Read This? Every Man Needs a Coachs Playbook with Winning Strategies for Life. This book was born out of a deep desire to see men everywhere experience victory over lust. Lust made me lose out on too much in life for too long. My mind and my body were made slaves to lust. My relationships were broken by this problem for years. My life became a living hell trying to satisfy a craving that was never satisfied. It led me to emptiness, torment, and depression. Now that I have found freedom and how to reign over lust, I want other men to know that they can do it too. That includes you. Whatever has kept you from having this freedom is not important. What is important is discovering the tools with which to build a new life. I am convinced that men dont want to continue living in bondage. We just dont know how to be free. This book will give you the keys to living in freedom. In order for these keys to open up the door to life on another level, you must use them. That sounds so simple, but I believe that is where we fail. We must apply what we learn in order to see a difference in our lives. This is what Im asking from you: a commitment. Commit to press on even when you dont see immediate results. Commit to persevere even when everything in your mind is telling you to give in and go back to the same old same old. I dare you to step out of the boat and see the impossible happen. You can be free from lust. If you take what I show you to heart and then act on it, you will never be the same. Are you ready to be a champion? Then lets get started
