Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Written by former law clerks, legal scholars, biographers, historians, and political scientists, the essays in In Chambers tell the fascinating story of clerking at the Supreme Court. In addition to reflecting the personal experiences of the law clerks with their justices, the essays reveal how clerks are chosen, what tasks are assigned to them, and how the institution of clerking has evolved over time, from the first clerks in the late 1800s to the clerks of Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg and Chief Justice William Rehnquist. In Chambers offers a variety of perspectives on the unique experience of Supreme Court clerks. Former law clerks—including Alan M. Dershowitz, Charles A. Reich, and J. Harvie Wilkinson III—write about their own clerkships, painting vivid and detailed pictures of their relationships with the justices, while other authors write about the various clerkships for a single justice, putting a justice's practice into a broader context. The book also includes essays about the first African American and first woman to hold clerkships. Sharing their insights, anecdotes, and experiences in a clear, accessible style, the contributors provide readers with a rare glimpse into the inner workings of the Supreme Court.

Book Chamber Music

  • Author : Roger Kuin
  • Publisher : University of Toronto Press
  • Release : 1998-01-01
  • ISBN : 9780802041883

Download or read book Chamber Music written by Roger Kuin and published by University of Toronto Press. This book was released on 1998-01-01 with total page 316 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Roger Kuin's Chamber Music is a playfully written, imaginative, and ultimately demanding book, with a critical approach characterized by an unusual and indiosynchratic post-modern critical style that will challenge the reader's perceptions of what a book of criticism should and can do. Analysing the sonnet sequences of Sidney, Spenser, and Shakespeare both from an interpretive angle and from the perspective of a post-modern re-evaluation of the Renaissance sonnets, Roger Kuin's discussion is influenced by many modern literary critics, including Roland Barthes and Umberto Eco. Kuin focuses on the problems inherent in the form of the sonnet sequence, emphasizing the various forms of indeterminacy central to their meaning. His sense of the intertextual relationship among the major English sequences is subtle, and in places, strikingly original, in combination with a highly sophisticated understanding of theory. Chamber Music is a book that will infuriate many, but ultimately reward those who flow with its idiosyncratic style towards Roger Kuin's admirable and expert conclusions.

Book Immunology of Clinical and Experimental Diabetes

Download or read book Immunology of Clinical and Experimental Diabetes written by Sudhir Gupta and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-11-11 with total page 432 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: During the past 5 years, impressive progress has been made in understanding the etiopathogenesis of expeiimental and clinical diabetes. The rapid progress that has been made in the general field of immunology has made possible new understanding regarding the role of the immune system in the pathogenesis of diabetes. The other two areas in which recent progress has been made in the field of diabetes include genetics and the role of infectious agent(s) in the etiopathogenesis of diabetes. Because of these recent developments, a vast amount of data has been accumulated and published in a number of metabolic, endocrine, immunological, and general medicine journals. The purpose of this book is to consolidate all the available information and present it in its current state. In the present volume, I strive to bring together relevant contributions from leaders in the fields of immunopathology, immunobiology, and genetics. The advancing understanding has in several instances reached the point of clinical applica tion. This volume encompasses the entire scope of modem immunology of diabetes mellitus. This volume has been divided into two major parts, Experimental Diabetes and Clinical Diabetes. In the Experimental part are included chapters dealing with the structure and functions of insulin and the immune response to insulin. Spontaneous and experimentally induced models of type I diabetes mellitus are presented. The role of virus(es) in the etiology of experimental diabetes and the influence of sex on experi mental diabetes are discussed. The transplantation of pancreas and islets is reviewed in detail.

Book The Chamber Musician in the Twenty First Century

Download or read book The Chamber Musician in the Twenty First Century written by Mine Doğantan-DacK and published by MDPI. This book was released on 2022-07-07 with total page 334 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In recent research, there has been growing emphasis on the collaborative, social, and collective nature of musical behaviour and practices. Among the emerging hypotheses in this connection are the idea that listening to music is always listening together and being with the other; that music making is a matter of intercorporeality, mutuality, and emphatic attunement; and that creative agency in musical practices is fundamentally a distributed phenomenon. Chamber music provides an ideal context for the testing and actualization of these notions. This Special Issue on chamber music and the chamber musician aims to explore the psychological, social, cultural, historical, and artistic issues in the practice of classical chamber music in the twenty-first century. Contributions are invited on any of these aspects and issues involved in being a contemporary classical chamber musician. Authors are encouraged to contextualise their research by reference to the recent literature on collaborative musicking, and among the topics they may choose to address are the cultural and musical demands chamber musicians face and the implications of these demands for their artistic practice, the ways the twenty-first-century chamber musicians engage with historical practices, the newly emerging musical identities and artistic roles available to them, and expressivity in current chamber music practices.
